Name comes next my friends. Once we get the Class settled upon then we'll start a discussion on names. Since this is going to be for us all, I figure that we'll take our time in development. The Excelsior Class ships have a great reputation as the most used class of starship in all of Starfleet, I love the look and feel of them (I just watched the Voyager episode Flashback the other day just to see some of the scenes from ST VI reshot). _________________

[quote="uvek"]I think the excelsior class has its own perks. We are in unexplored space, why not use an unexplored ship? USS Guardian is a good name, too. It denotes the purpose of the Federation presence. |

by the by....no matter what is considered, I would LOVE to develop new characters and run them through on another ship. Commander Johnathan Thomas is one (homage to my grandfather), Lt. Commander Sett, a vulcan, and I got a bunch more, as I am sure all of our players here do. This is a lot of fun, and I just hope I'm not screwing it up . |

You're not screwing up at all my friend, on the contrary, I'm enjoying the game very much and it wouldn't be possible without each and every one of you!
I've some new character ideas rolling around myself... a Vulcan, an Andorian, a Tellarite. I've even thought of a Klingon idea (originally Captain Brennon was going to be an Andorian... can you picture it?). _________________

Captain Brennon an Andorian? Well we probably wouldnt have endangered two runabouts. Just rack the wreckage area with Phasers and Photons
I like the Name USS Archer. I just wanted to point out that its being used and had some info on the Alpha site. Besides anyone that would take a cool name like Archer and put it on a Centaur Class? Yech.
Im also found of the USS Star Blazer. This was the name my best friend growing up used a lot for his Star Ships. Its also the name of the Cartoon with the Yamamoto. |

I'd be happen to design any logos and such that might be needed for the simm. Transparent vectors that can be used on websites, preferably. _________________

I gotta admit, I love the logo on the frontpage here! It's cool and adds a flavor that keeps you mindful of where you are....great job! |

I'm up for anything. gracious knows that in the past I've RPed up to four characters at a time (in a chat room too once... now that was interesting).
I'm a writer who's used to working with a handful of characters in one setting, and I have a bit of graphic arts/photoshop/webdesign skill that I can bust out if needed.
so I'll say that if more characters are needed, I'd be MORE than happy to whip up a few new ones and perhaps even explore some of the idea's I've had for new races... It's actually a bit different for me to only have one character in any story setting... I'm not used to it. So please let me know if we need more able bodies on the ship and I'll gladly write up a new character! |

Yeah, I'd probably throw in at least one more character as we add a ship or two. _________________

lol as i write and bump into npc's I have been trying to just leave a frame work but not all the details so the narrator can fill in as needed. But the ringing silence from on high has pushed me to begin filling more and more detail lol |

In relation to setting up the force, It seems to me that it is possible to do the following:
1) warship
1) science ship
1) all round vessel of exploration
1) starbase
1) nova class support ship for short range patrols
In Starfleet battles we used the scenario that our fleet was given a quadrant along whatever border (in my case the romulan neutral zone, near klingon space, of course) and the fleet was the only Federation presence for light years.
So, we had a mix....the Guardian (ambassador), the Avenger (constitution), the Pender (excelsior) and the Aurora Borealis (Oberon). Each ship performed a different function and sometimes met up to support one another.
An Oberon class ship can give great sensor support to an excelsior. A Nova can come in to support an Ambassador class, and/or hang around to be the enforcement arm of the starbase/space dock.
Just thoughts. It seems that if we are recruiting, many people may want to be higher rnanking and that gives us the room to throw them in and use them all at once on a single page. I don't know if that would work, but it can be fun.
Any thoughts? too much? |

There seems to be a lot of push for specialized vessels, and I can see how someone could like that, but I like a well rounded ship, doesn't paint you into a corner story wise. You can fight an enemy in one chapter and study a spacial anomaly in another, and your ship is equipped to do so. That being said, I like uvek's idea, most people want to be in a position to actually be in charge of something, nobody wants to be a "red shirt". Several vessels would give more opportunity for advancement, and NPC's can fill some gaps as necessary. I do think we should take it a little slow, just to iron out how things will run. _________________

I think that for the time being we need to focus on getting one ship at a time launched. Every few months after each launch, provided that we can get a stable crew together and each ship can stand on its own then we go ahead with getting the next going.
I've a few ideas that I'll outline when I get home from work tonight. I have to get going because I'm a tad bit late. Sufficed to say, the Hartington is our flagship, a general all purpose heavy cruser. This next ship, whatever her name will be, should be something slightly different. Not specialized per say but with a specific mission in mind, but with the ability to do other thins. That way, her CO can follow the mission directive but interlace it with interesting stories that don't just involved "look at this planet, study this anomaly".
More to come... _________________
