A Miranda Class with a slight green tinge to her hull. A Star Fleet Crew to keep her going, but a very small, almost skeleton crew. The rest taken up by the Jar Heads. Whole decks ripped out and replaced with expanded hanger bays and filled with Denube Class shuttles and fighters to provide air support. That kind of thing?

MARINE = My Ass Rides In Navy Equipment.

I like this thought and would love to sim the Starfleet (CO) that is in charge of ferrying around a bunch of Jarheads. It would be fun to have a character that is like a Lt or LtCdr.

Another concept that has always fascinates me is something we haven't seen yet in Trek on the screen, and has only been mentioned in passing. Book 3 of the Double Helix series (called Red Sector) mentions a class of ship known as a Combat Support Tender (CST). Anyone who hasn't read it yet, you really should as it is a fun concept. Basically, the CST is there to effect emergency repairs in battle or to work the the SCE on big projects.

Ever read his Second Commonwealth War series? It was FANTASTIC.

I like the idea of separating exploring and science from a battle ship. I always liked the Ambassador class just cuz it looks tough. I think by separating the two, story lines could be completely tailored to each type of vessel. I.e. we could send one into a private (civil) war, or we could send a ship into a scientific anomaly that would involve wormhole quirks, or gateways, or anything.

That way, recruiting would be easier because we could pull people interested in a particular part of star trek lore....

fights with borg are not out of the question, nor are spatial anomalies....

I'm imagining a CST along with several other vessels building the Starbase we'll eventually have. Kind of a pre-sim sim.

I like how this is getting all of our creative juices flowing!

I especially like the idea that the Marines are led by a crusty old general limping around on a bionic leg and a cane with a bronze globe and anchors as the top piece. This General of countless battles is being ferried around by this wet nose, know nothing, Navy Lieutenant. The arguments would be great!

The Tenders sound exactly like present day Sub Tenders. Oh the stories you hear in the Navy about Sub Tenders lol

I'm going to wait before I cast my vote, but the idea of having a separate scientific/diplomatic ship sounds very interesting...

I am going to close this poll with Excelsior class as the winner.
