Croft stepped in to his quarters after what had been a long first shift and took his first good look. The setup was almost identical to the quarters he had on the Intrepid, although the furniture was a little more dated. At least the replicator and console are current, that's all I really care about. He walked over to the replicator, "Coke, 12 oz. 5 degrees Celsius" the computer chirped "Unable to comply, object Coke is not in the database." Croft shook his head. "Computer, load presets file Croft427" "File loaded." Croft smiled, "Repeat previous command"

He grabbed his Coke and sat at the console. He had several messages, all from his father. He glanced to make sure they were all personal, then deleted them. He leaned back in his chair for a moment, rubbing his eyes.

He was on the bridge of the Odyssey again. He had never served on the ship, but for some reason the dream was always the same, as if his subconscious wanted every opportunity to change what happened. He was at the helm, on screen was a large cubical vessel of girders and conduit. The Borg. The ship shudders, and the Vulcan at the Ops station yells, "The Borg have locked a tractor beam on us Captain, we are being boarded!" There's a pause, then " Captain, we are losing antimatter containment. Warp core breach emminent." "All hands abandon ship!" then the dream shifts slightly, Croft is running through the hallways, looking for someone, although he knows now what he will find. He's yelling, over and over, "Adrianna! Adrianna!" He sees movement in the corridor ahead, a familiar outline is slumped against the wall. He rushes over and pulls her into his arms, "Adrianna, are you ok?" he gasps. Her eyes are closed, blood runs down the side of her face. That's when he notices something wrong with the blood vessels in her face, they are grey tinged, and moving. Suddenly her eyes shoot open and her hand closes like a vice on his throat, pinning him to the wall. She looks into his eyes, emotionless as she speaks, "We are the Borg, resistance his futile." This is usually the point where he wakes up screaming, but even as the scream is rising in his throat her pupils change to slits, the color turning from blue to yellow, and a forked tongue slips from her lips, she hissses, " You can't escape your dooomm."

Croft launches from the chair, half a scream dying on his lips. He was sweating profusely and gasping as if he had just run a marathon. He wiped the sweat from his forehead, trying to calm his nerves. He had been having the dream since the Borg invaded, and his fiance died at Wolf 359. She was a science officer on board the USS Odyssey, and the fact that they had no body to bury at her funeral led credence to the fear that she had been assimilated. He took deep breaths for a moment, then left his quarters, he needed a drink.

Xavier Croft
Location USS Hartington

Croft wandered into the lounge, surprised to find a few people there at this late hour. He orders a Scotch and finds a quiet corner to ruminate in. What I wouldn't give for a good nights sleep He stares out a porthole, he could just make out the yellow atmosphere of the L class planet. Why are those reptilian Tal'Horton (OOC sorry if spelled wrong) getting into my dreams? He sipped his drink. Before he had lost Adrianna, the only dreams he ever had tended to foreshadow something that was going to happen in the future. He couldn't see the future, often the "portents" for lack of a better term, made no sense until the situation presented itself. One thing he could count on was if the dream was threatening, bad things were bound to happen. He had a particular bad nightmare two days before the Borg invasion. And of course, he now continued to have nightmares about the Borg most every night, but this was the first time it had changed. His intuition was telling him these new found "friends" had only just begun to cause trouble. He ordered another drink and tried to forget Adrianna's face becoming serpentlike.

No matter how long his shift had been, insomnia always had the ability to deny Calodan sleep. This was just another in a long string of nights where he hadn't slept. The little black hypospray in his quarters was going to get more usage before this mission was over.

He had slipped into one of his few sets of civilian clothes, once again thinking that he should replicate more, but his life was always in uniform. For tonight, the light brown slacks and blue shirt with buttons would have to do for his visit to the ships lounge.

On his arrival, he was glad he wasn't the only one frequenting the lounge at this late hour. The chrono told him he had to be on duty in just over 7 hours, so he ordered a synthale concoction from the bartender and glanced around for a place to sit. He noticed Ensign McTavish sitting at one end of the bar and decided to see if the young Ensign wanted some company.

"Mind if I sit?" he said and watched the young man instantly stiffen and move as if to stand. Calodan could remember life as an Ensign and cracked a bit of a wry smile. "Relax. We're both off duty and when we're off duty I'm just Arjim or Jim if you're ok with it."

"Aye, Sir. Er. Jim. Please Call me Liam or Mack." McTavish said as he slowly sat back down. He tossed a glance to the far corner of the room where LT Croft was sitting. "Sir, there is a man who is in a lot of pain. He keeps it under wraps while on duty but off duty he is unraveling. I just sent him a double of what ever it is he is drinking."

OOC: I actually meant to respond to Lieutenant Croft...and dragged you into it McTavish. Not quite sure how I managed that sort of swap.

IC:
"That's good of you Mack. Lt Croft looks like he could use a drink." He paused to take a sip of his drink. "I don't think I can come up with a single officer on this ship who hasn't had some sort of trauma to do with the war or their service. Our counseling team has their work cut out for them." He finished the remainder of his drink and signaled to the bartender for a second. "So Mack, what was your last posting before Hartington?"

(OOC: I figured as much Very Happy we will have to see if Mr Croft will allow us to drag him back into the conversation)

(IC) "I came from the USS Adelphi. She is a good ship but it wasnt a very exciting year." McTavish chuckles.
"How about you Jim?", McTavish takes a drink from him glass with a grimace. McTavish fiddles with the PADD on the bar.

"My last posting was the Hood. I took some...time off to go back to Trill. Spent some time learning about where I came from. Then spent some time on Jupiter Station catching up with my parents."

The bartender brought over his second drink and Calodan thanked him. He took a sip and surveyed the room again. He managed to catch Lt. Croft's eye and motioned him over.

"The Hood is a good ship, Jim. Last I heard she was about half way through a major over haul and her Captain was doing his best to convince Star Fleet not to decommission her." McTavish picked up his glass, waited for the ice to settle, and set the glass back down sliding it towards the bartender.
"That my good man is the worst Ice Tea ive ever had. Can I get a glass of water? Please."
McTavish turned back to the Operations Officer, "Your very right Sir. Jim. We all carry around our ghosts. Mine at the moment happen to be living."
McTavish pushed his PADD to Calodan. "My mother has pulled strings and blocked my sisters graduation from the Academy. My Mom says our family has given enough to Star Fleet and wants me to convince Bridget to drop out. Bridget in turn wants me to tell our mother that Star Fleet is perfectly safe and that she needs to relax."
McTavish takes a drink of the ice cold water.

Calodan raised his glass in a salute then took a sip. "The Hood is a tough old lady and Captain DeSoto is as good as they come in Starfleet. They offered him command of one of the new Nova class ships and he turned them down. Last I heard he's managed to convince the Admirals to let him oversee the refit of the Hood." He paused for a second, some of his ghosts catching up to him.

He examined the PADD in front of him. "That sounds like quite a situation. I can't say that your mother doesn't have point. You might remind her that the war is over now." A name on the PADD stood out to him. "Your mother is Captain McTavish, the instructor at Starfleet Academy? What course does she teach?"[/i]

Croft wandered over just as Calodan spoke.
"That sounds like quite a situation. I can't say that your mother doesn't have point. You might remind her that the war is over now. Your mother is Captain McTavish, the instructor at Starfleet Academy? What course does she teach?"

He holds up the drink that McTavish ordered for him and nods to him, then sits before he can be invited.

"Don't let me interrupt.."

McTavish burst out laughing,"One does not remind the Captain of anything. She is well aware of Star Fleet's state of warfare. She teaches Advanced Starship Combat and Tactics, Advanced First Aid and She is the Coach for the 2g Volley Ball Team."
A far away look comes into McTavish's eyes, "If only Bridget would have taken Science or Engineering."

McTavish snaps back to attention as LT Croft sits,"Not at all sir, we were just Reminiscing." The almost ever present grin returned to McTavish's face. Only a flash in his eyes betrayed the tightening and buzz in the base of his spine that told McTavish that LT Croft was Telepathic.

"You aren't. Please, have a seat."

He waited until Croft was seated before he continued.

"Mr. McTavish and I were just swapping stories of previous postings and he happened to mention his mother, who I think I had when I was at the Academy."

He smiled at the man, noting how young he looked. Then he realized that both of these men were not that much younger then he was. A symptom of being joined, he guessed, you feel like everyone around you is so much younger then they really are.

He held his hand out to Croft. "We have yet to be officially introduced, Arjim Calodan. When we're off duty, you can call me Arjim or Jim if you're comfortable with it."

Croft takes the hand.

"Xavier Croft, at your service. Most people end up calling me Croft, apparently I should be appalled at being named Xavier. I think most people just can't pronounce it." He chuckles the looks at McTavish, "Unfortunately I remember having Captain McTavish, although rarely was she called that outside of class. I think the nicest name she had was the 'Old Battleax'".

"Please sir, call me Liam or Mack," McTavish laughs,"Old Battleax. Yes that is one of the nicer things she is called even at home. She took the loss of family very badly." The far away look returned behind McTavish's grin.

Croft picked up the McTavishes unease but ignored it, concentrating on the body language.

"Mack it is, and you can dump the sir, at least for another..." he glances at the chronometer on the wall, " six and a half hours or so." He smiles. "So, looking at the three of us nursing are drinks this late at night, and a few other emotional outbursts earlier, I'd say the ships counselor is going to lose a lot of sleep, or sickbay is going to be a busy place." He smirks finishing his drink. He gets a brief flash of McTavish's thoughts, just enough to catch that he can pick a telepath from a mile away. Well, it's in my file, would get out one way or another
