Stardate: 53773.0 - Just past 1:30am.
Location: Bar/Rec Lounge

Uvek threw a casual sarong on and, finding his Romulan sandals, he moved out of his quarters. The dream had shook him to his core. It wasn't so much what had happened, but it was what it represented. Would he betray these men and women? Would he let them down? Did his move here truly have as much to do with the Founders as it did with his feelings of himself after years of murder and betrayal for his government?

An andorian cadet passed him heading toward a door marked "PRIVATE". He stared at her as she went by and felt a cold shiver down his back. Memories threatened to overwhelm him. Normally, he would head to the holodeck, but now he just wanted to sit and eat and find another distraction. He entered the ship's lounge. Approaching the bar, he leaned over. The attendant nodded respectfully. "Sir?" He asked.

"Gletten, please." said Uvek. He looked around the room as he waited for his soup to arrive. In a corner of the room, looking as restless as he, was Ambassador Rolen. And he was alone, a security officer sitting a discreet distance away, trying to look bored and alert at the same time. Uvek made up his mind. He pointed to the table, so the attendant would know, and moved up to the ambassador. This could be his chance.

"Ambassador Rolen," he started respectfully, "If it is not too much an imposition, may I join you?" he asked....almost willing the Vorta to say yes.

Uvek leaned back from his soup. It wasn't too bad, for foreigners. But it couldn't hold a candle to his mothers. Well, when could anything compare to one's home cooking?

He looked at Ambassador Rolen, who had patiently waited for him to eat while he watched space go by outside. His drink was a small white liquid and for a moment Uvek was afraid that it was Ketracel White. But, no, not from this Vorta. Scans were conclusive. Rolen was NOT a changling. Which brought Uvek to his point of joining him in the first place.

"Thank you for allowing me to join you, Ambassador." he said briefly. "I was hoping to have a moment to talk with you. It may interest you to know that I was in full acceptance of your position here. I believe you will be very advantageous to the mission and this crew." He reached out and grabbed a glass of tea, ordered when he received his Gletten.

"I wonder what brings you to this assignment. If you forgive me for saying, sir, this would seem a somewhat limited opportunity for the Dominion in light of the results of the war. What is the objective here for the Founders?"

(OOC: CRAP! I'm so sorry I missed this one! Completely overlooked and I apologize. I'll do my best to catch up Rolen a little bit for you. I'm glad you took the opportunity to talk to him)

Ambassador Rolen looked up to the Romulan towering above him and inclined his head, motioning to the seat across from him.

"My all means, Lieutenant."

"Thank you for allowing me to join you, Ambassador." he said briefly. "I was hoping to have a moment to talk with you. It may interest you to know that I was in full acceptance of your position here. I believe you will be very advantageous to the mission and this crew."

"I wonder what brings you to this assignment. If you forgive me for saying, sir, this would seem a somewhat limited opportunity for the Dominion in light of the results of the war. What is the objective here for the Founders?"

At the first statement, the Vorta merely nodded his head in thanks. At the Lieutenant's next question, however, Rolen cocked his head to the side and eyed the Romulan.

"That seems to be a rather limited outlook coming from a Security Operative, and a Romulan to boot... I would think that you of all others aboard this ship would be able to notice any opportunity right when it arose."

(OOC: Not a problem. I know you are being pulled everywhere....sorry to do this now, but should get the thread started...thanks for the time)...

Uvek leaned back. A mental game of chess was underway. Not surprising, he thought, but one that he needed to win if he was going to gather any information from this Founder representative.

"That seems to be a rather limited outlook coming from a Security Operative, and a Romulan to boot... I would think that you of all others aboard this ship would be able to notice any opportunity right when it arose." said the Vorta.

"Not really, Mr. Ambassador," countered Uvek. "I am not here in that capacity. The opportunity here is strictly a personal one for me. As for the founders, the years spent projecting their influence in the Alpha Quadrant prior to the war surely provided them with any information they could gain from a Federation starship. The Odyssy proved that. So, I might add, did the destruction of the mixed fleet sent from Cardassia six years ago." He did not add his personal experience through that.

He watched Rolen closely and tried to gain a reading from the man. Vorta's were notoriously difficult to pick apart. But Uvek was a trained professional, and now he was going into his element. Just tread carefully, he told himself. Very very carefully for now.

"In point of fact, Mr. Ambassador, my history with the Vorta and the Founders is somewhat limited." He leaned back and sipped his tea, changing track.

"I understand their desire to improve relations with the Federation at this point. A Vorta representative here could be construed in several ways. A means to ensure our safety, thus demonstrating their good will, for instance. But let me ask you, how will you be reporting in? You have made no transmissions since you arrived. Will you be meeting any Jem Hadar during our travels, or will you require computer access?" He leaned forward. "Of course, we stand ready to assist you in any way possible."

The Ambassador smiled as he listened to every word the Security Chief said, seemingly hanging on every syllable. His demeanor gave nothing away. Not his inner thoughts nor any agenda. He waited for the proper moment to insert his own thoughts into the conversation, allowing Lieutenant Uvek to go on as long as he felt like... after all, the Vorta could talk up a storm all their own.

"You assume that we have an ulterior motive, Lieutenant. I could simply wish to enrich my knowledge of the Federation first hand, or perhaps I am a rogue who wants nothing more than to experience the greater universe outside of the Dominion..."

He paused for dramatic effect, courtier smile still hanging on.

"The reality, Mr. Uvek, is that we thought it best for you to have a guide while entering the wilds... and to steer you away from our own backyard as it were. I won't be reporting back to the Dominion, unless it is absolutely necessary. In such an eventuality I would hope you would be as accommodating as you've suggested you'll be."

The Vorta paused again, letting his words take hold in the Lieutenant's mind before finishing his statement.

"After all, we are friends now, aren't we?"

Uvek smiled. "Of course, Mr. Ambassador. The Federation is, among other things, an ever expanding and accepting family. I am, as you should note, an example of that." He noted the consistent use of plurality in Rolen's speak. No doubt, despite his protestations, he was representing the Founders. He had learned much here, he was on his way. Finishing his tea, he stood.

"Perhaps in time we can explore that rebel streak in you, Mr. Rolen." said Uvek. "If you will excuse me, I am needed in the morning. Thank you for your time."

He moved to the exit after receiving Rolen's final words, and caught an interesting exchange occurring between McTavish and the Klingon representative. That should be interesting to hear in the morning, he thought with a smile. But for now, I have things to consider and my mind needs to be clear.

"and to steer you away from our own backyard as it were"

The words echoed in Uvek's mind. Yes, he thought, the Founders had been good at steering. Always manipulating and steering. Well, the Romulans had been doing that in the Alpha Quadrant long before the Dominion!

Uvek stood in the center of his room. It was now 0530. The past four hours had been spent reading files, listening to Professor Kolar on the audio tracks from the Columbia, and preparing for his detail in the morning. But the voice of the Vorta ambassador rang in his mind. The tactical officer had been the one voice pushing for Rolen's acceptance on the ship, but now Uvek was beginning to wonder if subconsciously there hadn't been a personal, even selfish motive for it?

He needed to clear his mind and be prepared for the confrontation on the planet's surface. Still, it was strange that Rolen had offered no information about this planet. No identity designator, nothing. As if the Dominion wasn't interested in this part of the Gamma Quadrant. Uvek shook it off. No matter, time to prepare. He squatted, then sat cross legged, and brought himself into a state of Kohlinar. PEACE. QUIET. NOTHING.

He stayed that way until 0710 when the alarm went off on his chronometer. Time to go.
