A few days back I brought this series up when we were talking about the new Sim. Lieutenant Calodan brought up the Second Commonwealth War by the same author (Rick Shelley). I just wanted to bring the books back up for general discussion because they're great!
The DMC books are about a man, Lon Nolen, who moves from Earth to the Planet Dirigent in the 30th Century. He was a Cadet at the North American Military Academy but washed out due to political corruption. On Dirigent he was able to do what he wanted to do, become a soldier. The chief product of Dirigent is a professional military for hire. These aren't the Blackwater types we know all about in our time, the DMC is the best of the best with a strict code of conduct. Over the course of the series we see Lon rise from the ranks of Officer-Cadet to General of the Corps. They are pretty standard military fiction and can be sort of predictable, but I just love them. I highly recommend them... though if we ever do that Starfleet Marine Sim I may riff the stories of the DMC for our use... _________________

I'm open to reading anything new. I have renewed my library card and started watching whatever Star Trek I can get my hands on.
Have not read that yet, but I will certainly get a hold of it. _________________
