HI ALL,

For anyone interested, this is an amazing website for starship types and specs.....

http://www.siwiak.com/archives/asdb/excelsior_ships.html

I hope you like it. It gives just about everything for just about every type of federation starship.

During game play, I use this and Romulan ship designs to develop ideas, know where I'm going that sort of thing. If you have it all ready, ok, but if not, enjoy!

here's a piece of info of the type we can find on that website. Has anyone else found this all ready?

3.3 DEFLECTOR SHIELDS

Type: A symmetrical subspace graviton field. This type of shield is fairly similar to those of most other Starships. However, besides incorporating the now mandatory nutation shift in frequency, the shields alter their graviton polarity to better deal with more powerful weapons, such as the neutron-carbide beams of Tamarian vessels. During combat, the shield sends data on what type of weapon is being used on it, and what frequency and phase the weapon uses. Once this is analyzed by the tactical officer, the shield can be configured to have the same frequency as the incoming weapon - but different nutation. This tactic dramatically increases shield efficiency.

Output: There are twelve shield grids on the Ambassador Class starship, and each one generates 145.9 MW, resulting in a total shield strength of approx. 1750 MW. The power for the shields is taken directly from the warp engines and impulse fusion generators. If desired, the shields can be augmented by power from the impulse power plants. The shields are now comparable to the original New Orleans class and can protect against approximately 12% of the total EM spectrum (whereas the Galaxy Class Starship's standard shields can protect against about 23%), This improvement was made possible by the multi-phase graviton polarity flux technology incorporated into the shields, which is now standard issue on Federation starships.

Range: The shields, when raised, stay extremely close to the hull to conserve energy - average range is ten meters away from the hull.

Primary purpose: Defense from enemy threat forces, hazardous radiation and micro-meteoroid particles.

Secondary purpose: Ramming threat vehicles.

I gotta agree. I have been pouring over specs all night. The more I do, the more I realize how much we can do with that info. I think sciences and medical are gonna get a lot out of it, but flight and ops should do really well.

I especially like the auxiliary and probe areas.

Anyway, thought it might help those of us with less knowledge or skill.

THIS IS FOR LT. CALODAN:

6.2 TRACTOR BEAM

Type: Multiphase subspace graviton beam, used for direct manipulation of objects from a submicron to a macroscopic level at any relative bearing to the starship. Each emitter is directly mounted to the primary members of the ship's framework, to lessen the effects of isopiestic subspace shearing, inertial potential imbalance, and mechanical stress.

Output: Each tractor beam emitter is built around three multiphase 15 MW graviton polarity sources, each feeding two 475 millicochrane subspace field amplifiers. Phase accuracy is within 1.3 arc-seconds per microsecond, which gives superior interference pattern control. Each emitter can gain extra power from the SIF by means of molybdenum-jacketed waveguides. The subspace fields generated around the beam (when the beam is used) can envelop objects up to 920 meters, lowering the local gravitational constant of the universe for the region inside the field and making the object much easier to manipulate.

Range: Effective tractor beam range varies with payload mass and desired delta-v (change in relative velocity). Assuming a nominal 15 m/sec-squared delta-v, the multiphase tractor emitters can be used with a payload approaching 116,380,000,000 metric tons at less than 2,000 meters. Conversely, the same delta-v can be imparted to an object massing about one metric ton at ranges approaching 30,000 kilometers.

Primary purpose: Towing or manipulation of objects

Secondary purpose: Tactical; pushing enemy ships into each other.

Yeah, it's wonderful information, but it makes me more aware of how deep my ignorance is...

HAHAHA Do not fret Mr. Azmay! We (with the exception of the Command deck, I'm sure) are all in the same boat (ship, starship) .....

The USS Ignorance....Cadet class, warp speed UMM, WHAT?

hahhaha.......This should really help, I think, to at least visualize what we are dealing with! Better still, you can PRINT these specs and have the Ambassador class right in front of you for help!

LOVE IT.

It's only ignorance if you refuse to learn. I think this site is going to be awesome, makes me a little bummed about the Excelsior, unless we are going to have it go through a serious upgrade, it's a little underpowered IMHO.

I would assume that the Excelsior they have up there is for the TMP era so when we get it going on the new sim we'll post up the specs on the site for the ship itself. If you guys head over to the Hartington's website you'll see a ship specs area (Click on USS Hartington and go to Specifications). The same stuff will be there for the new ship as well, when we get it going.

Good find Mark!

No, it's ignorance if you admit there are things you don't know anything about. Which is my case, compared to the average here. I'm not saying I'm refusing to learn, I'm saying it's a huge amount of info. All in all, quite overwhelming.

I guess my point is it's only a bad thing if you don't do anything about it. And since you apparently enjoy Trek, it shouldn't be a bad thing to learn about, should be fun. I know I love the technical aspect, and I by no means will ever win the trivia contest.

No doubt Xavier, I have given up on the trivia contest myself, but I agree with the Captain, the specs are TMP zone and we need to modify ours to upgrades with the new 2376 mindset. I think the Excelsior class has anythihg we want, since it is all imagination anyway. It certainly is a stable platform and can include any abilities we want.

Really, you don't need to know anything that is not in your character's area of expertise. Don't let it overwhelm you, Mr. Azmay! Just treat it like an apple tree...pick what you see fits you!

If you remember I think the Excelsior was supposed to be the first ship with Trans-warp drive or whatever, so it can still be a groundbreaker if we want.

I am also really impressed with the Ambassador. Powerhouse!

Anyway, glad you all like it. I have added it (along with the Hartington's specs to my faves and been using it to define some ideas).

INCIDENTALLY CAPTAIN, this site also gives breakdowns and specs for some SPACE STATIONS, just in case you are interested....

That site seems to be a clone of one I used to use all the time:

http://techspecs.startrek.acalltoduty.com/

Incidentally, upgrades have been done on the Excelsior class. One that springs to mind is the USS Lakota http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/USS_Lakota

Ships can have their specs played with. I used to RP on a Norway class ship that had been refit for the Dominion War as a battleship. Quantum Torps, Type XIII Phasers, and a sized down Soverign shield grid.

Speaking of ignorance, I am usually pretty good with the lingo, but I'm drawing a blank with TMP. Anyone care to enlighten me?

ENT = Enterprise
TOS = The Original Series
TAS = The Animated Series
TMP = The Movie Period - The first set of ST Movies
TNG = The Next Generation
DS9 = Deep Space 9
VOY = Voyager

I've also seen PENT = Pre-Enterprise used as well as POSNEM = Post Nemesis.

Slowly working its way into the lexicon is STO = Star Trek Online time frame.
