Stardate: 53774.6 - after debriefing
Location: Uvek's quarters

Uvek entered his quarters gingerly, his sore body willing him to seek out his bed. He ignored it and instead went to his closet, where he removed a small silver case. In it was a long necked crystal bottle, filled with a bright blue liquid. He walked to the replicator and spoke wearily into the microphone. "Feiiha, warmed." He said. As the meat-filled pastry dish is materialized, he sits at the small dinner table in the corner of his room and popped the cork on his aylihl.

Uvek normally did not drink but his visit to sickbay, then to the morgue, set his mind to needing a distraction. Sloan's cold pale body lay on the slab; a reminder to Uvek of how fragile life was, and the need for more squad training. The marines may have faired better, but they were gone. It was up to him and his men to provide the same level of military skill. That would not come easily.

He reached over and pulled the meat pie to him, simultaneously pouring a long tall glass of the ale. "Computer," he called out. "Play something soft. Perhaps the Ballad of the Apex Sea." The computer beeped and soft romulan music began filtering into the room.

A bite, then two before Uvek realized he could not eat. A man dead, two wounded. Even Commander Qech, who he had resolved to protect. He shook his head and took a long pull on the burning liquid. Squad leadership was nothing like being an agent of the Tal Shiar. A major may have a team under him, but Uvek had worked alone for many years. Despite my work on Cardassia, I never worried about a combat team, he thought. Perhaps it is not for me.

He cleared his glass and poured another. Perhaps he had assumed more responsibility than he was prepared for. The thought hung in the air. Another long pull off the glass. Perhaps he should speak to the captain. Despite the commanding officer's comments in the briefing room, Uvek began to have doubts.

No, he thought, I cannot afford this self-pity. He put his glass down, capped the crystal bottle and returned it to the case, then to the closet. He peeled his dirty and ripped uniform off and pushed it into the clothing chute. He walks into the sonic shower, cleans off, then returns to the center of his room. "Computer, dim lights 50%, cancel music." Computer complied and Uvek was left in darkened silence. He pulled himself together and began a deep and long meditation.

Time to remember who he was. Why he was here, and what he had to offer. Time to recover and drop regret. Time to become an officer of Starfleet once and for all.
