Stardate: 53773.5, post meeting with Counselor Zeara
Location: Holodeck

Ensign Azmay led Counselor Zeara to one of the holodecks, the one where e had, since that conversation with her, been working during es spare time, trying to get the computer to recreate was e wanted (es appetitive mind was on overdrive, even if es rational and afective minds were not far behind) to show her.

Ah, if it were possible to show that being, that woman, that Betazoid, something that no-one not of Loraby blood had ever seen...

Yes, indeed Azmay felt up to the task. Besides Biology and Medicine, History was one of es greatest pleasures. So...

Once e and Counselor Zeara had entered the holodeck, e asked her to wear, over her uniform, some kind of white tunic, embroidered in gold and silver thread, and covered with strange designs. E then said:

"Do not worry, Counselor. This one has programmed what you are going to see to ignore the fact that my people had never seen a Betazoid during this period of time"

Then, Ensign Azmay said: "Computer, run program Azmay 1, please"

* * * * *

And it was there. All around the Counselor and the Ensign, the inner hall of an immense, magnificent domed building raised itself, filled to the rim with Loraby, Zethny and Ab-Loraben.

There were statues, three times the height of Ensign Azmay, built in marble and ivory, of what seemed to be great personalities of the history of Lorab; that one frozen in a gesture of passionate eloquence, as if e was talking to the masses; that one raising es hands to the heavens, as if asking for something to be delivered; that third one, a Zethny whose muscles were perfectly tense, raised es weapon -some sort of three-bladed fork- as in wrath, despite having a face as serene as the most placid, calm, twilight in Earth.

There were voices all around, groups of Loráby, Zethny and Ab-Loraben talking among themselves, arguing, complaining, debating, discussing, taking notes. And, however, there was no chaos but order, as in a beehive. There was passion without violence, fury without agression, power without dominance.

Under one of the magnificent statues, there was a Loraby, whiter than Ensign Azmay, and even taller, who was claiming that "Only those who have suffered are fit to rule, as only they understand the hardships of the common people".

And there was a Zeth, es black skin stripped in red, who raised es hands to the heavens and claimed, to a big group of listeners, that "Power belongs to those who are able to claim it for themselves, and able to defend it from would-be-thieves".

And not far from em stood a Lurwab (a member of the Ab-Loraben species), es eyes cold and hard, shrouded in magnificent silky robes, which glilstened as e walked back and forth, stressing es words with hand gestures. E was claiming: "There are no other inhabited worlds within the skies, and to venture there without having solved the problems of our world would be folly"

And there were the Loraby, the Zethny and the Ab-Loraben themselves; either walking, talking, discussing, debating, writing and taking notes, shouting or arguing. They were all as similar as drops of water or crystals, and indeed as different as a hundred, a thousand humans would be; each of them a distinct face, a distinct person. There were as many different persons there as there could be in the busiest marketplace in Earth, despite the jet-black eyes that looked like jewels, the hairless heads, the apparently inexpressive faces -the expressionless of which was revealed to be just an illusion.

Ensign Azmay turned to the Counselor and opening es arms in a grandiose gesture, told her:

"This, Counselor, is one of the most wonderful points in the history of my people. This is the Bazaar of Thought during the age of the Ten Thousand Schools of Thought"

It seemed that the holodeck had left the Counselor speechless. Ensign Azmay led her away from the crowd, into a more quiet corner of the Bazaar of Thought, and asked her:

"What do you think, Counselor?"

Taking in the sight before her, she could little but stand there and try to process what she was seeing. Such similar qualities between their people, and yet at the same time, so many differences. She found herself, for the first time since she was a child, so off-kilter that she had nothing to say.

It wasn't until she was lead off to a quieter corner that she found her voice again.

"I must admit Ensign, that this is... quite a sight to see. I stand amazed at how similar our people seem to be, and yet they have so many differences."

E smiled, the soft, thin smile e had when e didn't show es teeth, and nodded:

"This one feels honored by your comments, as e is sure this is just a pale reflection of what the Bazaar of Thought was in reality. But this one would like you to explain what do you mean by 'our people'. Do you mean the Betazoids, or Humanoids in general?"

She looked at Azmay with a bit of sadness in her eyes.

"I was not referring to Betazoids. I spent most of my life living on earth, and studying my own species from a distance. There are many similarities between all three races, Earth Humans, Betazoids and your species." she paused a moment as if searching for the best words to use to express herself.

"Perhaps it is just a basis that most every society or culture uses to form itself, or perhaps it's just an innate natural biorythm that beings of every race feel the need to maintain. Interesting queary really." she said and looked around her. "Perhaps that's a thought for another time. I wish to see more, if there is more to be seen"

Azmay nodded, and led the Counselor back to the crowded areas of the Bazaar. There, e asked her to sit on a bench, near a group of onloookers who were listening to the words of a Lurwab, who was explaining to them a theory about the four-fold structure of sentient beings (body, mind, spirit and instinct).

"You amaze this one, Counselor, saying that there are so many similarities between our people. This one agrees with that, accepting that there are also many differences. This one thinks it is the case too with other Humanoids, such as Klingon and Vulcans. However, most of this one's people -mainly the Zethny and the Ab-Loraben- say that this one's people will always be pariahs in the Federation, due to our bodies, appearance and the three-fold structure of our minds. It would be good for some of them to meet someone like you"
