Qech looked around as the chaos in sickbay began to take on some order. She had security running emergency sweeps, and anyone that could be spared from ops and Engineering working on the power issue. All that remained were the injured, and the medical staff who were working on them. Anyone who was able to get back on their feet she put immediately to work.

Qech sighed I hope they can get communications back up soon. At least then I'll be able to set up a command station in Engineering without them needing to send messengers from sickbay, crawling through the jefferies tubes.

She could hear Dr. Newell speaking to the Captain and, given her CO's inability to properly respond, she did what she needed to do.

"Captain, under the medical legislation 23.67, i have to ask for your permission to start Dr. Kiv in neural cortical therapy. I think you will agree, we need her at this moment in time."

"Doctor," she said as she approached the biobed. "I will give you any authorization you need. Until the Captain is ready to take command again, by Starfleet regulation I am in command of this ship. Please, start the procedure. We don't want to lose her."

"Ensign Tanay reporting for duty, Sir. It happened that the incident caught er during one of er training sessions, in a holodeck, so e came directly here"

Uvek nodded, though each move of his head caused pain. "Thank you, Ensign. Obviously, my vision was slightly affected in the armory and Mr. Smith was not there. Please take a team to the upper decks and check on Ambassador Rolen, Korax, and anyone else you can find. Orders are to send emergencies to sickbay via Columbia's transporters, and escort the remainder of the injured to the shuttlebay." He turned to his Petty Officer.

"Let's get to the brig and check on Smith. Do you have an emergency medical kit? I need a pain killer." As his MA dug into his kit for a hypospray they continued around the corner of the hall and approached the brig. The manual door was locked, which was strange. As the men stood at the impenatrable door, Uvek opened a small panel hidden in the wall. A pinch in his neck and suddenly the pain left his head.

"Thank you." he said over his shoulder. In the panel was a security pad. He punched in a well memorized code and a moment later, the brig door slid open.

USS Hartington Sick Bay
Xavier Croft

After transport, Croft had found a bulk head to lean against. The bleeding had mostly stopped, but the dizziness was still there. After a quick check from a medical assistant he had been deemed a low priority, which suited him just fine, he was of that opinion already. A helmsman wasn't much good to a dead ship. He just wished he could help with the other injured.
What the hell did we hit that the Navigational Deflector didn't protect us from?

character - Dr. Oliver Newell
Location - Sickbay

The doctor opened her eyes, and looked up at Oliver.
He smiled, "How are you doing?" he inquired gently, holding her hand. It was warm, and Oliver gladly received the small comfort it gave him.
"Much better, thank you. Where am I?"
"In sick bay, your sickbay, you know, the Hartington?"
She looked puzzled. "Do you know who you are?" Her expression changed as soon as Oliver asked the question
"Of course i know who i bloody well am, I am the chief medical officer, and don't think you can nick my post that ruddy quick mister!"
Oliver breathed a sigh of relief, and smiled, and then blushed, realizing the Dr's hand was still in his.
She looked up at him, and laughed. "Don't panic, i liked it, made me feel human again." She winked, and Oliver smiled weakly.
"I'm not ready to go back to duty yet, you have command."
Oliver sighed. "Are you sure Dr, it's really hectic, and im not quite as experienced as you . . . ."
Kiv laughed, her head turning to the left, her hair spilling from the pillow.
"yes, and don't try and kill me again!"
"Kill you?" Oliver panicked, again.
"Yes kill me, 20ml of cordrazine, not 25 you fool, i was on cloud nine, having a tea party with Klingon fairies before you brought me round, thats why im the CMO, and your my
assistant"
Oliver couldn't help smiling. "I must get going, the Captain needs to be awoken asap, i might just give him some cordrazine to bring him round too . . . ."
"Yes, you do that." Dr kiv closed her eyes and blew her fringe back from her face. "And doctor," she said, "20 ml only, killing a starfleet captain won't look good on your resume."
Oliver shook his head, 'at least the worst is over,' well he thought so.

Location: Near the Security Office, in route to the upper decks.
Character: Koa Tanay

Uvek nodded, though each move of his head caused pain. "Thank you, Ensign. Obviously, my vision was slightly affected in the armory and Mr. Smith was not there. Please take a team to the upper decks and check on Ambassador Rolen, Korax, and anyone else you can find. Orders are to send emergencies to sickbay via Columbia's transporters, and escort the remainder of the injured to the shuttlebay." He turned to his Petty Officer.

"Yes, sir"

Koa Tanay looked around, picked four free ensigns, and said:
"Ensigns! It has been said that we are going to check on the upper decks. Our orders are to check on Ambassador Rolen, Korex, and anyone else we can find. We have your orders. It is said er name is Koa Tanay. Now, follow er! For Starfleet!"

The harsh, efficient Zeth routed up four Security crewmembers, and had them following er to the upper decks in the blink of an eye. E slithered behind them, not giving them the chance to whisper about er appearance or skills. This was not a time for small talk. This was a time for action.

(OOC: Doctor Newell, please remember that NPCs can only be played by Lead Officers. I admire your tenacity for the game but if I set out the rules for one player I have to enforce them for all of the players. Also, Doctor Kiv isn't Human... I'll allow you to edit it if you'd like, though I'll remind everyone that, at the moment, Doctor Kiv isn't awake.)

ACTION

Nearly two hours pass as the Engineering staff works to restore power to the tomb-like starship. Finally, after what seemed to be an eternity the emergency lights lifted and the welcoming yellow-white standard lighting came up.

During that blacked out time, all available personnel was gathered to search the ship, not only for missing persons but also to survey the damage. Professor Kolar and Ambassador Rolen were discovered fairly quickly, Kolar in his quarters scared out of his mind while Rolen had taken it upon himself to aid a number of trapped crewmen in the lower decks -- much to the surprise and thanks for those trapped.

With the restoration of minimal power, internal communications had also been restored. All in all the ship seemed on the mend.

Back in sickbay, the Captain had begun recovering enough by lights up to hold an impromptu staff meeting from his Biobed. Doctor Kiv remained unconscious, leaving Doctor Newell in command of the medical staff. Presently, Lieutenant Ghan was reporting to the Captain the state of the ship.

"...that brings the power reserves up to bear minimums. We'll have enough power for lights, life support, internal communications and the main turbolifts -- that is if we don't overuse them. External comms are down, looks like the explosion damaged the subspace antenna. On Commander Qech's authority we took out one of the shuttles to survey the damage to the port nacelle... it isn't good sir. It looks like 35 to 40% of the field coils will need to be completely reconstructed. With spare parts I'll be able to do it in maybe a month... but even with that we'll still be dead in the water without a new supply of dilithium."

Lieutenant Calodan had been awake for only a short time before the lights came back on. He was very glad that some of his suggestions had helped to restore power to the ship. Before the meeting, Ghan had handed him a padd detailing the damage to the ship's power distribution network and just how dangerously low their power reserves were.

"Captain, I suggest we start evacuating crews from nonvital decks and sections and power down life support, lights, and gravity to bare minimums in empty areas of the ship. We could extend out power reserves by several days by eliminating the need to maintain one or two decks."

He tapped a command in on his PADD and looked at some numbers. "Sir, I also suggest we route bridge functions to Main Engineering and keep the Bridge offline for the time being. It takes a lot of power to maintain Deck 1."

"Lieutenant Ghan, Do the runabouts have enough dilithium to resupply the ship? Or wasnt there some mention of a planet not to far away? I cant remember, its all muzzy."

Ensign McTavish still had a headache but his broken left arm, separated left shoulder, 3 broken ribs and collapsed lung were all well and on the mend. For the last hour he had been moving about the ship lending a hand were ever it was needed.

but even with that we'll still be dead in the water without a new supply of dilithium."

At this, Qech spoke up. "Sir, if you recall the report that we received from the probes before all this happened..." She gestured to the mayhem around her. "There is a planet about ten light years from here that hosts a large quantity of dilithium crystals. Might I suggest we try and send a team out?"

She looked at her Captain. He looked pale, but otherwise alright. She was glad that he was back amongst the world of the living at least, and happy to be filling the role of XO again. She had never had her eye on the Captain's chair, and her recent experience as Commanding Officer hadn't changed her mind.

"I would suggest Lt. Calodan at the very least to be part of said team. He would know how to handle them, and how much we're likely to need."

USS Hartington, Sick bay
Lieutenant Xavier Croft

Croft was again leaning against a bulkhead, although he was feeling much better. Under normal circumstances he would probably be given restricted duty, but these were anything but normal. He listened to the officers debate the options. He perked up a little at the thought of a nearby planet. Put me in a runabout What were the odds the planet had dilithium, not very good. Then the Commander spoke, and Croft leaned forward.

"I like the Commanders thinking Captain, I'd like a chance to help."

Uvek stood further behind the other seniors listening, and feeling pretty much useless. He and Mr. Koester had found Ensign Smith wounded in the security room, seemingly terrified by an unknown alien, which had turned out to be Ensign Koa Tanay. He managed to get him to the shuttledeck and with PO Koester's help, they organized clean up and restoration of order throughout the ship's various decks.

Now after having been tended to, he was ready to exact vengance on whoever, or whatever, had done this to the ship. But no one knew exactly what or who it was. With that thought in mind he stepped up.

"Captain. In my mind our first order of business needs to be to identify what caused our damage. I suggest using the shuttle's sensors to determine if there is enough residual information to reconstruct what may have led to our situation."

Koester had added, "Sir, I would also recommed we check to see if the sensors have been messed with in any fashion. Our encounter with that disturbance could have been as a result of sensor sabotage..."

Captain Brennon listened to his Officers, doing his level best to stay with them. After this is over, Doc may have to put me on restricted duty... Finally he broke into the conversation.

"I agree with Lieutenant Uvek. We need to determine who or what attacked us... if it was an attack. The evidence points towards some sort of mine. Uvek, your job is to solidify that claim. Take a shuttlepod out and survey the damaged area."

He took a moment to catch his breath, apparently talking in bursts was going to wear him out...

"However, we can't wait and focus on just one plan. Mr. Calodan and Mr. Croft will take the Runabout Willamette to the source of the dilithium. Bring a security team and at least one Engineer with you to help get the crystals onto the ship."

Ghan cut in as the Captain took another moment's break. His tone was, for once, gentle and kind.

"Pardon me, sir... but we still have the problem of our field coils and the nacelle housing. Without substantial repair work we'll never break warp 3."

The Captain pondered this for a moment and was about to open the question out to the team at large when a tiny voice rang out from in back of the assembly of Officers.

"Um... perhaps I may be of assistance." called out Professor Kolar. A hole was made for the Cardassian to step into as he spoke up.

"Our crew was in this region of space for quite a while before we crashed. We stopped at a space station near by, about 15 light years from our current position. It acted as a trading post. We had warp engine issues and had to put in for repair and resupply... I'm sure we could find what we need to fix the damaged nacelle."

Ghan snorted approvingly in the Professor's direction.

"With the right parts I could get us under way in about a week or two, with repair facilities we could have the nacelle up to full capacity in a few days."

Brennon nodded at the news.

"Sounds like a plan. Mr. McTavish, Mr. Koester. I'd like the two of you to take the Professor aboard the Columbia and make contact with that station. Mr. Ghan will provide a list of supplies we'll be needing... see what you can find."

The Captain sighed and looked towards his First Officer.

"That leaves just you, Commander. Take the Shuttlecraft Pike and proceed back towards the Wormhole. You're all under orders to try and raise the Guardian, provide her with all sensor data on those mines and warn her off until we're back under our own power. I don't want to risk Captain Marek running his ship into a minefield. Commander, you're to make your way to the Wormhole and get S.C.E. assistance should we fail to bring ourselves back online. Insurance. I'd like you to take Doctor Newell with you, just in case y..."

"Captain... may I have a word?" came the irritatingly upbeat voice of Rolen.

Brennon's eyes closed for a moment before he nodded.

"Of course, Ambassador. What do you have to offer the conversation?"

Smiling widely the Vorta stepped forward, making sure he didn't come into contact with any of the crew around him as he moved into their circle around the Captain.

"In honor of our peaceful intent towards the Federation's exploration of the Gamma Quadrant I would like to volunteer to accompany the Commander... perhaps if we were to pass a Dominion vessel we could ask them for assistance."

The Captain ground at his teeth, clearly irritated by the suggestion -- and the amount of sense it made. He forced himself to smile to the Ambassador as he nodded.

"It's a prudent course of action... permission granted. Does anyone have any further questions before we get moving?"

Qech was not at all pleased with the idea of being cramped into a shuttlecraft with the Vorta ambassador for who knows how long. At least Dr. Newell could provide a bit of company that she didn't find obnoxious. But despite her reservations with the diplomat, the plan was good, and she didn't complain.

The First Officer nodded to the Captain in confirmation. "I'll go gather some quick supplies and we'll set off immediately, Sir." when she began walking she was loathed to notice that ambassador Rolen was following her. She sighed in frustration and turned to face him.

"Can't you just... Meet me in the shuttle bay?"

Ensign McTavish moved to stand next to the Chief Engineer. Pulling out a PADD, "What do we need sir? and maybe as important, What do we have to trade?"
