USS Guardian, Deck 7, Sickbay
Doctor Uroki

((OOC: Sorry about my complete absence from this thread. To be honest, I forgot all about it. My email wasn't sending me updates for some reason. Just because I wasn't posting doesn't mean the Doctor wasn't responding to the crisis though. Again, all apologies)).

Dr. Uroki worked hastily on Ensign McKlaggen, her back deliberately turned to the fallen Tellerite. She didn't want to be distracted from the patient who had a chance by the one who did not. Still, it was difficult not to think about it. Commander Gaer may have feigned sudden duty calls simply to get away from her, but she never held that against him. Sula considered him a friend, and as far as she was concerned his blood was on her hands. She knew that, unless she had suddenly developed powers to time travel, there would have been no way she could have saved him; but the fact that he was gone, and she had been there to see it, made her feel as if she had been directly responsible.

Uroki tried to push these feelings away as she focused on ebbing the blood-flow of her current patient. She smiled at him as she administered a heavier dose of pain reliever.

"It's alright, Ensign. You'll be on your feet in no time."

She noticed McKlaggen's right fist was still clenched, as if he held an invisible phaser in her hand. Not all scars are physical she thought to herself. Gently, she pried his fingers apart and held his hand, forcing his fingers out of their last remembered position.

"It's not your fault, Ensign. You need to relax."

Quote:
Senior Staff and Department heads will be meeting in the staff room at .. (roughly two hours from now). I would also like you and Chief Roekil to meet me there 30 minutes prior to the meeting.

The time had arrived. Talbert touched the keypad once again. "Bridge to Chief Roekil, please report to the main conference room. Senior staff members report to the main conference room in 30 minutes."

He turned to the bridge watch officer, "You have the bridge," he said and with that turned and entered the conference room.

The captain was all ready seated. He nodded. "Captain, please accept my condolences. I know you and Commander Gaer were friends."

Chief Roekil reported to the main conference room, as ordered. His face was slightly slack and one could tell he hadn't rested.

"Captain, reporting as ordered. I already offered my resignation to Commander Talbert, but I want to offer it again to you. You took a chance promoting me to this position and I have failed you. I have a letter of resignation drafted and am prepared to face disciplinary action."

USS Guardian Staff Room
Captain Marek

"Captain, please accept my condolences. I know you and Commander Gaer were friends."
Marek nods, "Thank you, I appreciate your sentiments." As Marek finishes Roekil enters the room.
"Captain, reporting as ordered. I already offered my resignation to Commander Talbert, but I want to offer it again to you. You took a chance promoting me to this position and I have failed you. I have a letter of resignation drafted and am prepared to face disciplinary action."

Marek raised his eyebrow, "While I am waiting for a full report, as I understand it your quick reflexes saved anyone else from getting hurt. In this time of need the last thing I will accept is the loss of yet another officer." Marek pauses briefly, then continues, "I wanted both of you here early so I could inform you of your new posts before I tell the rest of the crew. Lieutenant Commander Talbert, I hereby give you a field commission of Commander, and assign you as First Officer of the Guardian. You'll find that your security clearance has already been raised." Marek turns to Roekil, "You may find this difficult to believe, but I have found your service to be exemplary, and as such I am issuing a field commission of Lieutenant Commander, and assigning you as Second Officer. Your security clearance has already been upgraded accordingly. If you still wish to resign, I will accept your resignation upon our return to the Alpha Quadrant, until then your ship and your crew needs you." Marek clasped his hands together, allowing a moment for what he said to sink in."

Talbert's eyebrows went up (both at the same time, unlike his vulcan captain's). Commander? Wow. That was in line with his goals, but he was both shocked and dismayed that this was the way he would achieve them. He stood a little straighter, his muscular frame bristling with pride under the uniform.

"Thank you captain. Thank you very much, though I wish it could be under different circumstances, of course. I'll do my best for you."

He turned to the new LT. Commander. "Congratulations, Commander Roekil." he said with a smile and a clap to the back.

Lieutenant Commander!

"Sir...thank you. I, I don't know what to say. My species is not very good with gratitude so I will just say that I will not fail you again."

While Roekil had always wanted to sit in the Captain's chair someday, deep down he knew that wasn't going to happen. As a non-commissioned officer, he would never achieve the rank required to command a starship. His best bets had been command of security details planetside somewhere. Now...

Roekil stiffened to attention as the Captain produced two small boxes, containing proper rank pips for Talbert and himself.

USS Guardian Staff Room
Captain Marek

Marek handed each officer their new pips.

"Normally there would be a more official function when one is promoted, but under the circumstances, it would not be appropriate." Marek looked out of the viewport for a moment, the planet was just visible.

"Commander Gaer give his all to this crew, I know the both of you would do the same." Marek looked back at the officers.

"Commander Roekil, do you feel ready to give a full, unbiased report?" Marek gave one of his rare smiles," One that doesn't involve everything being your fault?"

OOC After Roekil post the other staff can begin arriving

"Sir, I can try. I have the sensor recording of the incident in the main computer."

(OOC Wow a jump in 6 ranks? Star Fleet Personel is going to have a fit and a heart attack lol. Captain dont forget the paper work for what ever star fleets highest award is at this time (havent looked it up lately) /OOC)

Surok seemed to be the sole calm point in the hurricane of activity on board the Guardian. He had secured both the large and small energy source upon emergency beam in. One half of Science 1, the half with the alien devices, was bathed in bright light. The other half was plunged in darkness.

Surok sat in the dark meditating on the devices. Multiple scans of all natures were taking place but Surok just allowed the information to flow over and around him with out him making any attempt to access it.
Surok was aware of the Captain entering the room and looking over the devices but made no move to interrupt, Surok could feel the emotions and turmoil coming off the Captain in sheets and had no interest in potentially embarrassing the Captain while he was clearly overwhelmed by emotion.

Surok thought it best to visit the bridge, only stopping for a moment to run a hand along the larger of the two devices, "Computer, record all activity in Science 1 until my return. At no time allow either device access to any computer system, device or tool. If any such access is attempted notify me immediately."

Once on the Bridge, Surok spoke with the science officers on watch. Renewing his standing orders and giving a brief look over the data the science teams had been gathering about the planet, its now hostile inhabitants and the ship, at what loosely could be called the space port.

He was looking over the diagram and placement of the alcoves when

Quote:

"Bridge to Captain Marek. I have sent Chief Roekil to his quarters for a moment to regain his composure, and Lt. Surok is on his way to the Science lab. Any other orders?"

Surok tapped a few keys and transferred the information to Science 1. With an arched eye brow, He told the Ensign sitting next to him,"I will be in Science 1 if I am needed." The corridors were empty on the short trip back to Science 1.

Surok steadily went over the information from new and previous scans. The information was fascinating. Surok was formulating the information into a report when he heard

Quote:

"Bridge to Chief Roekil, please report to the main conference room. Senior staff members report to the main conference room in 30 minutes."

Surok looked at the draft of his report and knew the amount of information far exceeded what he would need at the moment and began to edit with the time he had left until the debriefing.

Still editing as he walked the passage ways to the main conference room, Surok arrived several minutes early and awaited the rest of the Senior Officers.

OOC I always imagined if Marek had a "Bones" he would hear 'Are you out of your Vulcan mind?' on a regular basis. I'm also taking several leaps from what I can infer in the blanks on Roekil's service record (hint hint) from his age and from what I've gleaned from posts and the information on the Guardian page, Roekil's rank should be a lot higher, he's just bucked the system too much. Marek is banking that a show of confidence in Roekil will bring out the superior officer that is hiding under all that gruffness and tough skin.

USS Guardian Staff Room
Captain Marek

Marek watched Roekil's reaction carefully. Marek taps the console when Roekil says the sensor data is in the main computer.

"It appears that our time is up." Marek nods to Surok as he enters.

"Commander Roekil, I want your written report on my desk in the morning." At this point Ensign Toka arrives, handing the Captain a PADD and leaving a cup of tea in front of him. "Thank you, Ensign." Marek glances at the PADD, then looks back up as more officers begin to arrive.

OOC, going to pause for a bit to give people a chance to post their arrival if they want

The councilor walked into the room and felt the tension immediately.
He sat down without making any eye contact or effort to communicate with any other crew member, he could read their thoughts anyway.

(OOC im certainly not going to argue what happens in the game, especially between someone else character and the Captain. However if anyone wants to discuss in IMs im happy to express my opinion Very Happy /OOC)

Surok returns the nod to his Captain as he moves to the replicator and orders a Mocha. As Surok took his place at the table, He noticed the new rank pips of the men already seated at the table. He nodded to both and also noted the Captain's slight smile. The smile did not fit the Captains face, but it was not Surok's place to make any judgements, after all there were still several groups of humans living on Vulcan trying to emulate the Vulcan life style.

OOC Roekil's promotion is partly an IC reality check, it doesn't work for him to be Chief of Security over officers that out rank him, as interesting as I think that would be. Anyone that would like to put their two cents in can PM me and I will explain the many other reasons I decided to do this.

(OOC: I think it is important to remember 2 things....Marek is the captain of a starship. That gives him great leeway in determining his crew and their future. Also, while we are part of starfleet command, Kirk himself said that being captain is a great responsibility, like being mayor of a drifting city and sometimes it's best played fast and loose...you go cap, it's your ship!)

USS Guardian Staffroom
Captain Marek

Marek looked up from the console to his crew, noting the somber air in the room.

"First off, as you all are probably aware, Commander Gaer has been killed in the line of duty on the surface of the planet. During the away mission, an indigineous creature attacked Ensign McKlaggen, who in his attempt to defend himself, inadvertently shot Commander Gaer. Mr. Roekil was able to kill the creature before it attacked anyone else." He glances at Roekil. "The sensor logs and witness accounts confirm this." He looks around the room. "Commander Gaer will be remembered for his dedication to this ship and this crew, and he will be missed. There will be a memorial service tomorrow morning, for those who wish to attend." Marek shuffles several PADDS on the table for a moment. He looks to the Counselor, "Counselor, if you are willing, I would like everyone in this room to be scheduled to meet with you this week, including myself."

OOC Marek looked at Roekil sensor logs in the computer, that was what he was doing in the console. He has decided to protect Roekil a little, if it isn't obvious from my post
