Ensign Tanay turned to Lt. Croft:

"Liutenant, it was being thought to ask for permission to remain aboard. Bargaining is not an area in which the culture of the Ensign is very proficient; they are honest and straight to the point. They usually leave such things to the Ab-Loraben or the Loraby. Zethny are not used to haggling or to any kind of similar activities"

USS Willamette
Xavier Croft

Croft smiled at Tanay.

"I'll leave that to Lieutenant Calodan, but I imagine someone will have to stay with the ship." Croft stood and walked to the aft compartment.

"You guys the emergency Ferengi kit back there?"

Calodan had heard the conversation through the open door and stuck his head back into the cockpit. "Yes Ensign, you can stay with the ship if you'd like."

He turned back to Croft, "I'm not sure what you mean by an 'Emergency Ferengi Kit'? We do have some items we can trade though. Mr. Kalev and I gathered the items we need, let us disembark and see if we can find the mining authorities office."

The three left the runabout with Ensign Tanay keeping watch and walked a short distance, following signs that the UT assured them read Main Concourse. Very quickly, they realized they had gotten lost in the blur of sights and sounds and new smells. This planet's main concourse was a bazaar of sorts, with representatives of many different species chattering away in their native languages and apparently bartering over goods and services. After wandering in this for almost half an hour, Calodan managed to find someone official looking, at least he had a uniform, and get directions. After a short walk and a trip up a flight of stairs, the trio had made it into the lobby of the Mining Authority building...and were presented with a line of many people, all waiting to speak to a representative.

Croft smirked at Calodan as he responded, then followed. By the time they reached the line, Croft was ready for lunch, not a long line.

"Well, Lieutenant, I think we've got some time, you don't happen to have a deck of cards on you?" Croft folded his arms, a wry grin on his face.

"Sadly no cards, but the line appears to be moving quite slowly. If you'd like, you can return to the runabout with Ensign Tanay and try and raise the Hartington and inform them of our progress. Lt. Ghan may have repaired the subspace transceiver already."

As Croft turned to leave, Calodan stopped him. "And Mr. Croft, secure channels only. As friendly as these people have been so far, I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. I would rather them not be able to eavesdrop."

Ensign Tanay, left alone in the Runabout began doing es azernébď exercises, trying to relax and synchronize es body, mind, spirit and instincts again.

Lt. Croft was, so it seems, one of these... 'challenges in the path', as the Zethny call those people who are not one's enemies, but are neither helpful in order to achieve enlightenment.

Lunar Colony

Croft was still grinning, "Spoken like a true security officer, not ops, but I agree, this has been far to easy. I'll see what I can do, and I promise to be nice to the Ensign."

Croft wandered in the direction of the stairs, whistling. About twenty minutes later he had made is way slowly back to the runabout. He watched the Ensign meditate for a moment, then slide behind the controls. His fingers began flying across the panel. Well, so far no transponder signal, this could be interesting, or pointless He glanced back at the Ensign, Ten minutes, I'll give em ten minutes

If Ensign Croft thought he could catch an Azernébi Acolyte unaware, he was in for a rude surprise...

Ensign Tanay -er hands set in front of er chest in the first pattern, er arms precisely bent at the correct angle, er eyes not closed, but unfocused and veiled as by mist- adjusted er breathing rhythm, er heartbeat rate and all other vital signs, and kept a close mental watch on Ensign Croft as he glanced around the room. E was perfectly aware of where he was, and of what he was doing.

Croft swore reflexively, he had just picked up the distress call from the Pike.

"This is turning into one of those days." He tapped his combadge, "Lieutenant Calodan, do you copy?"

Calodan and Kalev had moved about 10 feet forward in the seemingly endless queue when his commbadge chirped.

"Lieutenant Calodan, do you copy?"

"Yes Mr. Croft. What is it?"

OOC: Sorry, how does Croft know that? The distress signal from the Pike is not in this Thread. I guess that if there had been an incoming distress signal (picked up by the Runabout) someone would have told us, and Lt. Tanay would have acted on it...

Lunar Colony
Runabout Willamette

Ensign Tanay ulfolded like a flower, and confronted Ensign Croft.

"It is being wondered what is happening, Ensign..."

OOC The other thread is happening at the same time as this thread, hence the reason the other runabout responded to the hail. As for Croft noticing, he was checking Federation subspace frequencies trying to open a secure channel to the Hartington, he then noticed the Federation signal. Your character at this point was meditating, not at a station (as I read it) it was no intention to step on toes, I am having Croft notice, but as ranking officer it will be up to Calodan on whether we respond.

IC

Croft spoke carefully.

"I just received a transmission from the Pike..."Croft paused, thinking quickly, "they wanted us to know that they just ran into something, looks like an old friend." Croft ran his fingers through his hair absentmindedly Come on Jim catch the hint

OOC: Its ok to have received a transmission. I am personally not reading the other threads and as such have no clue what is going on. /OOC

"They wanted us to know that they just ran into something, looks like an old friend."

Calodan thought on that for a moment. He wasn't quite sure what Croft was trying to tell him, but either way they were out of range to really do anything for the Pike. "Thats good Lt. Croft. Let the Pike know our progress and that we are several hours of high warp from our origins."

The line moved a bit closer to the desk and Calodan and Kalev shuffled forward

Croft shook his head.

"Yes sir, Croft out." He wasn't sure if he got the point across, but Calodan was right, they were almost the exact opposite direction from the wormhole. Hopefully the other runabout could help. Croft turned to Tanay.

"I am picking up a looping distress signal from the Pike, I noticed it when I was trying to open a channel with Hartington." Croft paused, "Not much we can do about it now, but try to get dilithium to the Hartington as soon as possible." Croft had lost all of the joy he had found with the new species and cultures surrounding them. Now he was just worried.

OOC Croft is a Lieutenant Junior Grade.

Minutes after the Willamette received the Pike's distress call another message came through the comm.

"Hartington to Runabout Willamette please come in. This is Lieutenant Ghan aboard USS Hartington calling to Runabout Willamette."
