"Hmm... well then, that should be all."

With that he snapped the scanner closed and handed it back to the other Doctor. The Tal'Harton pulled off his mask and kindly offered out a hand to her, to help the Commander off of the table.

"You seem to be in perfect health, Ms. Qech. While we don't have a lot of experience treating mamalians here, I believe I am experienced enough to know a healthy body when I see one. Your offspring seems to be in good health as well, though I'm unsure of the incubation period. Would you like to see a picture of your child?"

As he spoke he pulled the gloves off his hand and extended a piece of photo paper out towards Qech.

"Your offspring seems to be in good health as well, though I'm unsure of the incubation period. Would you like to see a picture of your child?"

Qech stopped and turned at the question, looking toward, but not directly at, the paper in his hand. She almost said yes. The word had just about slipped past her lips when she remembered something; something Dr. Kiv had said.

"We're going to get you through this together."

She lowered her head for a moment, mulling over the Bajoran Doctor's words in her mind. Dr. Kiv should be the one to show me. Not him. I'm not spending my pregnancy here, that's for damn sure. She'll show me when I return to the Hartington. Simple as that.

She looked back up to the reptilian alien in front of her. He was still holding the photo out to her. Thankfully, Evijan's baiting nature receded back whence it came, and Qech was able to act rationally again.

"No. Thank you. I don't want to know the gender until its born... And to answer your question, the gestation period for my kind is, if you're basing it off of a 24 hour clock, about 37 to 42 weeks."

Uvek sat bound and confused. His mind wandered around the room, taking in symbols, sights and sounds. He looked at the uniforms, trying to work out ranks, weapons, anything and everything. The synaptic induction was working like speed in his mind, and he felt strong enough to snap the straps holding him and break these lizards in half.....what a pleasant color, he thought at once, staring at the ceiling.

(OOC: I know it seems uvek is just drifting. The idea is that he be subjected to the Tal'harton, and yet remain himself under it all, but that it would take outside help to return him to himself, and then recall what he learned..I kinda figured that the whole team was going to be brainwashed by this point, and this was a good time/way to learn something of the Tal'harton for our trip through this quadrant....just FYI).

(Doctors Vision goes gray, and his minds goes to a flash back)

"Doctor," she said as she approached the biobed. "I will give you any authorization you need. Until the Captain is ready to take command again, by Starfleet regulation I am in command of this ship. Please, start the procedure. We don't want to lose her."

(The vision returns to normal, and Oliver speaks, but with difficulty.)

"Com - man - deer, mind - block - memory - con - troll. control"
The doctor shook his head, and stopped looking at the commander.
The alien next to him rubbed his back, comforting the doctor, who had suffered what the aliens would have called an 'unwanted memory relapse'.

The Tal'Harton physician with Qech passed the photograph back to his aid as he nodded nodded and made a note of the information she had given him.

"Well then, one of the guards will take you back to the barracks. Thank you for your cooperation, Ms. Qech."

A moment later her imposing escort appeared next to her, motioning for her to follow.

Instead of leading her back towards the barracks however, the Trill was led down another hallway and into another examination room. As the confusion registered on her face she noticed her escort was missing and the door behind her slammed shut, locking her in. While she held no illusions in her mind that their captors had any good intentions, this was a surprise. Taking a moment to look around she found the room quite bear. A large mirror dominated one wall and an examination table stood bolted to the center of the room. The rest of the room was bear, even the lighting seemed to emanate from a mysterious location.

As she looked around her new enclosure, a hissing sound echoed out from the wall, followed moments later by a sweet smell in the air. Gas she thought to herself as she collapsed to the ground.

***

Out from the shadows stalked Lieutenant Uvek's interrogator . Its reptilian eyes locked onto his in the moments before he spoke.

"Tell me your name..."

***

"Doctor Newell?" came a worried voice. It belonged to a Tal'Harton female, though how he could tell she was female was difficult to say. She looked identical to her male counterparts on all outward appearances yet something deep in his mind led him to believe, no he knew without a doubt that this was a young woman, an adolescent. The girl spoke again, seemingly concerned about him.

"Doctor, are you alright?"

Uvek looked back at the snake-like being. "I am Uvek." He strained against his bonds, but to no avail. "I must say I do not appreciate this treatment. I am here to learn. I have not struggled against you, nor attempted escape. You have no reason to bind me. I insist you release me immediately."

The doctor felt a pang of pain zip through his head, leaving him feeling sick.
"I am fine, i don't know what happened, perhaps it's the soup . . . ."

"I must say I do not appreciate this treatment. I am here to learn. I have not struggled against you, nor attempted escape. You have no reason to bind me. I insist you release me immediately."

The interrogator actually laughed at Lieutenant Uvek's comment. Shaking his head he came closer to his prey. A clawed hand came up slowly, coming to rest at the Romulan's left ear.

It was over before Uvek knew it had happened. The pain was intense, he could feel his hot emerald blood flowing freely down the side of his head. The creature's hand came away, clenched in a fist and as he opened it, Uvek could see the source of his pain.

In the Tal'Harton's outstretched hand lay the top third of Uvek's once pointed ear.

Smiling, the interrogator spoke once again.

"Where do you come from?"

***

Qech awoke slowly, the world was so foggy to her eyes. It took several blinks to clear her sight and several more to remember what had happened. Shuttle. Captured. Tal'Harton. Great... She quickly learned that she was bound to the table, in the same examination room that she had been locked in god knows how long ago. She also realized that she was not alone. Several Tal'Harton stood not three meters away conversing in their language of hisses. One of them noticed she was awake and motioned for the others to look as well. As they approached her, Qech could plainly see a diagram printed on a piece of paper held in the clawed hand of her new "doctors".

Qech.

The image of the symbiont resting in her abdomen was clear to her. They must have been taking scans and probing her during her recent stint of unconsciousness. Pain started to come to her, pain in her extremities, but most worrisome was the pain in her midsection. Something was wrong with the Symbiont...

A feeling of dread washed over her as the reptilian "doctors" descended upon her, tools in hand and soon her world was nothing but pain once again... only this time the sweet embrace of unconsciousness did not take her.

Qech fought against her restraints, for all the good it did her. She felt weak and still dizzy from the gas. The Tal'Harton Doctors seemed to swoop down upon her like vultures from the sky. And here she was, conscious and aware as they picked at her. A tear fell down her cheek as she thought of the symbiont, and another for her baby. She couldn't let this happen. She couldn't lose them. She opened her mouth to speak.

And screamed.

Uvek couldn't believe what he saw. Ordinarily he would have been steeled against this, his experiences and training would have kicked in and he would have never succumbed to torture. But now he had actually opened his mind, or some part of it in order to shield his core and learn what he could of these beings. As a result, his defense, as clever as it was, was really no defense for this. A look of anger flashed across his face.

"I'm from your ship!" He shouted. "You people all ready know where I'm from, you brought me here! RELEASE ME!"

The doctor become less and less aware of the events unfurling around him, only absorbing the words that the voice in his head were repeating over and over again, they were orders, and he would follow them, no matter what.

The romulan watched his interrogator deposit his eartip on a table near the wall. He glared at him as the pain shot through his skull. His mind couldn't relate to this treatment. He was truly unaware of his past and his frustration at this treatment grew.

"I came here to learn! I was told you people wanted converts, not prisoners! Well, I came here to learn so what is this all about? Why are you doing this to me?"

Qech awoke on her bed back in the barracks, her mind groggy. She found it difficult to recall what had happened to her recently, how she came to be laying in such a place... and then it came back to her. The pain. The tears. The screaming. She found her joints stiff, pain in her back and abdomen like fire over her muscles as she tried to sit up. The three beds around her were empty, presumably her crewmates were still being... spoken to. On a small table near her bed was a bowl of liquid that could almost thick enough be called soup. Looking down at it, she found herself more hungry than she had ever been, even during the long months of the war, embedded with the Marine unit.

And so she ate. The taste of bile was remnant in her mouth and her mind flashed back to a memory, a tube being shoved down her throat, the contents of her stomach being pumped out for no apparent reason. Even though the thought sickened her she continued to eat.

As she ate, two large Tal'Harton drug a body back into the barracks. The beaten, bloodied form was nigh unrecognizable to Qech's eyes -- that is until they brought it closer, tossing it upon the bed next to her.

Rolen.

The Vorta had been badly brutalized, his breathing was shallow and his eyes nearly swollen shut. As he struggled for breath, she could hear a wet, wheezing sound deep inside. Blood lingered on his lips and his mouth lolled open, the Ambassador was clearly unconscious.

***

"I came here to learn! I was told you people wanted converts, not prisoners! Well, I came here to learn so what is this all about? Why are you doing this to me?"

The Romulan's cries were music to the interrogator's ears. He handed the piece of Uvek that he had taken off to one of his aids knelt down, his eyes level with his prisoner's. He spoke slowly, as though he was talking to a child, almost patronizing.

"Where do you come from?"

***

As the Doctor was being tended to another Tal'Harton joined them. His cobra-like hood folded back against his neck. He wore flowing robes, not unlike Inquisitor Voss' though these had a distinctly civil to them where the Inquisitor's were more martial. He hissed something towards the young girl near the Newell, causing her to skitter away as he approached.

"Doctor, please join me in my study. We have much to discuss."

As the Doctor rose, he nearly collapsed back down again. His host held out an arm, taking the doctor by the shoulder to steady him. Newell was led down the hallway, passing works of art depicting scenes from across countless worlds. A sunrise, a sunset, a city, a farm, a group of aliens... it went on and on as they walked. Finally, they reached a room, the Tal'Harton's study. Books lined the walls, giving the appearance of a well to do study or personal library back on Earth. The Tal'Harton took a seat behind the desk and motioned for the Doctor to sit across from him.

"Firstly, I suppose I should introduce myself. I am Mihaj Sann, administrator of this outpost. You and I are going go get to know one another very well, Doctor Newell. I'd like to know more about you, Doctor... perhaps you could enlighten me?"

Qech wrinkled her nose as she forced down the cold soup. The way her hands were shaking she was barely able to keep the watery broth on the spoon. Eventually she just gave up and drank it straight from the bowl. As she ate, her mind drifted down some very dark corridors; unable to focus on any one thing. She feared this would not be the end of the suffering she'd just been put through. It was only a matter of time until the butchers came back for her. Clearly she was of some sick medical interest to them, and guinea pigs are never left alone. Even with that on her mind, she found room to be concerned about so many other things at once: The baby, the symbiont, her crewmates... Where were they anyway?

As if in answer to her unspoken question, the barrack doors swung open and Rolen's nearly lifeless body was thrown down onto the bed next to hers. She waited until the guards had exited the building before putting the empty bowl back down and leaning toward the adjacent bed. She found this task to be much harder than she assumed. Every muscle in her body seemed to rebel against her movements, especially her abdominal muscles. It seemed that laying there was about all she could do at the moment.

"Rolen?" she whispered. The Vorta barely stirred. "Ambassador? Can you hear me? Are you alright?"

Qech knew that he was far from alright. She knew that she was far from alright. As she watched the Vorta's labored breathing, she feared that rescue might not come soon enough.

As the warm blood from his ear flowed down his cheek, Uvek struggled to remember. Unfortunately, the synaptic induction had done its job well, and his true personality was locked away, hidden behind a void designed to make this a learning experience. He drew a blank.

"I told you," he responded, his voice tense and angry, "I came from your ship! I cannot remember anything before that. My companions told me we were here to learn. That is all I remember." He almost flinched at the memory of his ear damage. "I want to speak to Inquisitor Voss. I want to speak to my companions. You must not harm them!"
