Quote: | "I would advise you to return to your bed, Lieutenant. I don't detect any damage to the newly knitted bones, but you will want to refrain from any strenuous activity for the next several days." |
"No argument, doctor." replied the wounded officer. He lay back, his head swimming. "I...I need...." he stopped and realized he could not form thoughts. Flashes of abuse flew before his eyes. Light and dark and confusing. The blow had rewired something; it reawakened the effects of the synaptic induction. "Doctor Qech," said the Romulan weakly, "I mean Commander, doctor.....I cannot remember who I am. Why am I here? What is happening?" He lay back again, his head awash in black and blue rythums of pain.

Ensign Phell looked over and thumbed a switch. "Incoming transmission, sir." he said somewhat sheepishly. He made a mental note to apologize to Lt. Croft at the first applicable moment. _________________

"I don't know what happened. But the Captain needs to know... He needs to know there were people back there. I have to tell him. They pumped my stomach. Why would they do that?"
Doctor Kiv gave the Commander a pitying look as she injected her with a hypo of nutrient supplements. The Doctor looked to a nearby nurse and handed the man a PADD.
"She'll need another injection in 25 minutes, see that she receives it." Kiv bends down to speak directly to Qech again, succeeding in keeping her words as soothing as possible. "Davynn, I'm going to going over the data collected from our medical scans. I'm going to find out what they did to you, find out everything I can. It's going to be alright." With a smile and a squeeze to her shoulder, Doctor Kiv stepped away and vanished into her office.
Lieutenant Uvek had been helped back up into one of the beds by this point. Doctor T'Lau had begun intensive scans of the Romulan's brain, attempting to find out what exactly had happened. It didn't take long to discover the damage. Closing her tricorder, T'Lau looked to Uvek and very frankly laid the situation out.
"You have been experimenting with parts of your mind that Romulans are typically unaccustomed to accessing. Your people abandoned their psionic potential long ago. I am impressed that you have been able to cordon off parts of your mind. Unfortunately, the mixture of drugs and inexperience has led to brain damage. Your neuro-pathways are reconnecting themselves in ways you were unlikely expecting. I do not believe there is a conventional treatment that can help you at this point."

"Incoming transmission, sir."
"On screen, Ensign."
On the viewscreen, an alien man familiar to Lieutenant Calodan appeared. He has a bony ridge around the back head from browline to browline and another bisecting the top of the skull down to the nose. The alien is also completely hairless, but otherwise human in appearance. The man standing before them is a Myosian, one of the aliens that assisted the Hartington with her warp drive troubles. He smiles as he sees Calodan on the Bridge.
"Lieutenant Calodan, I'm glad to see that you made it back to your ship, and that they must have made it to Panthanel. I was away on a freight run, but I did hear your people stopped by. We came out to see if we could lend a hand with the raiders, return the favor."
Captain Brennon looked from the view screen to his Second Officer, his expression neutral, waiting to see what Calodan did or said next. _________________

"Thank you Captain. May I introduce you to my Captain. Captain Peor, this is Captain Brennon, my Commanding Officer. Captain Brennon, this is Captain Peor of the Ciola. We assisted him with issues with the Nekrali on our way to procure some dilithium and he was kind enough to help our trading efforts on Panthanel." _________________

Uvek swallowed. Brain damage? He looked down for a moment, then back up. "Doctor. What will happen? How do I proceed?" _________________

The holographic Doctor was gone when the emergency lights came up a few moments later. Seeing Lieutenant Uvek's bleeding head wound, Doctor T'Lau stepped over, tissue regenerator in hand. Doctor Kiv motioned for Azmay to stand watch over the still unconscious Vorta as she moved over to care for Qech.
Ensign Azmay followed Doctor Kiv's order, and stood watch over the still unconscious Dominion Ambassador. E wondered what was happening outside Sickbay. There could be no doubt that it was being an exciting mission. |

"Davynn, I'm going over the data collected from our medical scans. I'm going to find out what they did to you, find out everything I can. It's going to be alright."
Qech listened to the Doctor's voice; simply listened. She was too tired to even respond anymore. Her eyes were heavy, and the nutrient supplement, while a blessing, seemed to have made her even sleepier. She wondered if Dr. Kiv had slipped a sedative into the solution... That's what I would have done, she thought to herself. It was the last conscious thought she remembered having before quietly drifting off to sleep. _________________

Word had filtered down that the ship had escaped destruction or capture at the hands of the Tal'harton, and that help may have arrived. But that didn't soothe the Romulan Tactical officer. His brow was furrowed in thought.
"Your neuro-pathways are reconnecting themselves in ways you were unlikely expecting. I do not believe there is a conventional treatment that can help you at this point."
The doctor's words were haunting him. Disconnected thoughts were flashing through his brain. Images from his days in the RDF, more recent thoughts of abuse made him wince. One moment he knew everything that had happened, the next he didn't even know his name. In his more lucid moment he looked at Dr. T'Lau.
"Dr., while no conventional treatment may help, is there an unconventional method available that may work?" _________________

Captain Peor smiles and nods to Captain Brennon, his demeanor warm and inviting.
"Captain Brennon, it's a pleasure."
For his part, Brennon smiled back and made his way back over towards the command chair. He nodded back to the Myosian, gripping the back of his chair as he spoke.
"The pleasure is mine, Captain. I'm glad you decided to venture out this way, the Hartington could use your help once again. We were planning on making a stop over at Panthanel once we had retrieved our missing crew... we just weren't expecting to have a firefight on our hands like what we just came out of."
Peor looked down at a console near him and then off camera for a moment before looking back to Brennon. This time, he was frowning.
"You seem to have taken quite the beating, Captain, I'm reading some extensive damage to your power grid, not to mention near containment failure in your warp core... Not to sound rude but, are you sure you'll be able to hold it together?"
Brennon held up his hands and nodded.
"Oh I have every confidence in my engine crew, we'll hold up. I do think we'll have to impose on you once more, Captain."
Peor smiled again, seeing where Brennon was heading. He wagged a finger across space to his fellow Captain.
"You're looking for a tow. Well, that I can provide. Hold your position an prepare for tractor lock."
"Thank you, Captain. It is much appreciated. Hartington out."
The screen blanked out and returned to the starscape in front of them, the Myosian vessels growing larger in their sight. Captain Brennon spoke out to the bridge crew.
"Power down all non-essentials. Standby Condition Blue for the duration of the tractor procedure." The Captain's eyes fell upon the Second Officer. For a moment they were cold, almost hostile but the emotion quickly faded leaving no determinable feelings. "Lieutenant Calodan, see to it."

Ambassador Rolen's eyes started to flutter open -- as best they could considering the tissue regeneration had yet to be completed. His violet eyes settled on Doctor Azmay and his lips pinned back, separating into a smile before he spoke. His voice was slow and raspy, not unusual considering his condition.
"Doctor, I am surprised to see you here. Has my worth been upgraded since last I took stock of my popularity... or have you come to further your education in Vorta physiology?"
Across Sickbay, near the sleeping form of Commander Qech, Doctor T'Lau once again spoke very frankly to the Lieutenant Uvek. Her unemotional voice mirrored the Captain's coolness towards Calodan, though without any of the prompting from the Romulan.
"It is very simple actually, Lieutenant. We do not currently possess the technology to repair the kind of damage you have done to your mind. The only way to correct the damage is to manually do so using finely applied psionics, namely a Vulcan Mind Meld. While in the Meld, I should be able to redirect the neuro-pathways, recharting them in a fashion similar to their original route through your mind. The end result would be the restoration of most of your proper synaptic functions. I must confess however that it may take several melds to achieve the proper result. I calculate a 97% restoration. Some memory loss will become permanent, however the fluctuation between lucidity and less... stable moments will end. I will allow you time to dwell upon this, however I must let you know that the longer we wait to perform the procedure, the more extensive the damage will become and thus the more recharting that will be required. Time is of the essence in this case, Lieutenant."

ACTION
The Ciola and two other Myosian vessels lock a tractor beam onto the Hartington and begin the journey back to the Myosian world of Panthanel. Once there, the ship will undergo repairs and her crew will be able to enjoy a bit of much needed shore leave.
(OOC: This topic is going to be officially closed. I'll leave it unlocked through 10:00 PM EST 11/07/09. After that you may continue loose threads of this storyline in the Secondary Storylines area. The USS Hartington's adventure continues in "Shore Leave") _________________

Uvek sat back. Despite his past Romulan-interpreted Vulcan training, and having impersonated a vulcan for years in the pursuit of his career, he did not relish this as an option. But when faced with this predicament, and the potential loss of his new career followed by years in a Federation psyche ward.....
"I agree to this procedure, doctor. I put myself, my true self, in your capable hands." Perhaps these were the right circumstances, he thought, he was surely going to see this attractive vulcan from the inside out, after all. _________________
