I am pleased to announce that we have launched the NX-03 and are officially recruiting!
We are currently looking for the following positions to be filled:
Executive Officer
Flight Control Officer
Chief Armory Officer
Chief Communications Officer
Chief Engineering Officer
Chief Medical Officer
MACO Personnel
Any current players are welcome to join Challenger, though keep in mind I will try to keep the same rigorous posting schedule I keep on Hartington (at least one major post a day). Let your friends know we're looking for people! _________________

Wow, this is a surprise. I don't know much about this class, primarily because Enterprise fell so flat for me. I know that it will be a more viseral era due to the lack of 'traditional' treknology, such as shields. I need to do some quick research and see where I might fit in.
Good luck in recruiting and going forward.....I might join after I see what direction we go in. There is certainly a number of ways to reinvent the trek universe, but I just didn't follow this timeline close enough to know.
Time to read! _________________

Is there a limit to how many characters one can have? I'm currently floating 4 and am thinking about one more but I don't want to be hogging too much in the way of positions either. Just a question. _________________

It is my personal opinion that any player can play as many characters as they believe they have time for. If you think you can field another character then by all means do so. What is your next idea? _________________

Nothing concrete yet, give me a day or two. Thinking Engineering or Medical, would also have to decide if I want to do the Hudson or Challenger as well... The NX's are just cool looking, inside and out. _________________

Ok so if I go Challenger, it would be Engineer because Qech has CMO. What limits do you see species wise? IE before TNG the trill didn't exist in trek as far as have seen, haven't read many novels yet tho, and they didn't have spots for that matter. Or are we kinda just doing what we like? Anywho just wondering. _________________

Selara Qech is going to be the ship's science officer and linguist.
As for the Trill, the novels put Tobin Dax working at the Cochran Institute on Centauri III during the Earth-Romulan War and Lives of Dax says he was at the launch of Columbia, adjusting the warp coils or something like that. The Dax Symbiont was also present during Captain Pike's time on the Enterprise a century later. So, humans will know of the Trill, however they won't know anything of the Symbionts until TNG era.
With regard to aliens aboard ship, I'd like to keep it to a minimum. The Coalition of Planets is weary of fighting the Romulans (I highly suggest everyone who is interested read The Romulan War: Beneath the Raptor's Wing and possibly the two books that come before it, The Good That Men Do and Kobayashi Maru though this will not be required). If you wanted to play a Tellarite or Andorian or Vulcan or Denobulan, I may be able to swing that, but I want to keep the crew as Human as possible. By the end of the most recent Romulan War book, both Tellar Prime and Andoria have pulled out of the fighting with the Romulan Star Empire and the Vulcans have flat out refused to fight. Earth stands pretty much alone in the fight, though I could see some "exchange officers" in the mix (Hence Professor Qech being the Science Officer aboard Challenger)
Hope this helps, ask more if needed! _________________

OK, I'll look into a human, CMO, see if a character comes to mind. The more I think about it, the more I become interested in the NX era. sorry Uvek. _________________

No problem. If the TOS can't take off, I'd love to do a REFIT or even a contemporary new design as well. We're dealing with a younger crowd here, and in general, so TOS has a limited chance, although the technology is there. I like the Movie era just as well, but it all began with Kirk and Spock, and I'm just partial to the beast that bore the burden in the beginning....
I am still researching the NX. I am just not sure, yet. I have a lot of problems with Enterprise and I think that has colored me a bit. I am researching this week. Maybe I'll take daniels and have him fall into a Chronometric pothole this week. LOL.... _________________

I used to dislike Enterprise, but it's grown on me, especially the third and fourth seasons (and the post series novels).
What is it that you're not too fond of? _________________

Well there are two things. One I can get around, one I'm working on.
The one I can get around is Enterprise itself. The show strikes me as an afterthought, patched together to keep Star Trek on tv. I just don't enjoy watching it. It often reminds me of every other science fiction show out there now, and to me the magic of Star Trek is gone. There's such a dark side to it, and that ship gets the crap beat out of it in just about every episode! (This is just my opinion, and I hope I don't sway anyone else through it).
The other is the ship design. I just don't like it. I'm sorry, but it looks like a mushroom cap, thrown together by the sons of the show's writers. I think they even admit that the pre-NX designs were just thrown together.
Anyway, being that this is a writing game, I could probably get past that, and just have fun here. I still suffer from white-hat syndrome, and I think that comes from TOS and TNG, more than anything else, and these shows (Voyager/DS9/Enterprise) seemed focused on the frailty of mankind, not the strength and ingenuity of the Federation. (I know, I know, they always overcome their challenges, but there is clearly a difference).
Just some thoughts. I hope I don't offend anyone, but I am open to any opinions that others have. _________________

Well, we'd love to have you aboard, you're a damn fine player and you'd I think you'd add a little something to the game. I'm sure we can make this a fun one too. _________________

Well, I am looking at the positions. I already have someone doing Tactical, and I have an XO now and communications. Do you have any suggestions?
Personally, I'd like to see Ted Smith, Kuplo, or Zeara take the XO place, or some other higher rank, maybe even Koester.....if he has time.
Let me know. Question: Are the ranks the same order? _________________

I think those are all good suggestions for the XO post, I'll present the idea to each of them in turn and see if anyone is interested.
Suggestions? Engineering is the only post that you're not playing at the moment that isn't currently spoken for. However, I think you'd be able to do pretty much anything you want, even if it seems like a repeat on the outside, every character is different.
Yes, the ranks are all in the same order. _________________
