OOC this is the post to continue the away team thread
As the crew tries to come to grips with the loss of their XO, they begin preparing for a second away mission. Stress levels are high as many crew wonder how they are supposed to avoid ending up like the XO and security officer that had preceded them. _________________

Location: Transporter Room 2
Talbert reporting
(OOC: I'd leave the various department heads to play the NPCs for their departments)
The new XO stepped onto the pad. With his team was Commander Roekil, Lt. Vanquax, another security officer and Mevhra Kuplo, along with two members of the science department. Nearly 10 teams had beamed to the planet surface earlier, and were getting to work organizing data on the flora and fauna. However, Talbert had specifically designated the abandoned ship and the borg-like alcoves for his team.
He looked at the transporter chief. "All set, chief. Energize."
They landed almost exactly where the original team had landed. They could see the remains of the cat-like creature that attacked Commander Gaer, and it was immediately obvious that the carcass had been ravaged by another predator.
Talbert looked over to Vanquax. "On your toes, Lieutenant." He grabbed his tricorder, and said to Mehvra Kuplo..."Lead On Ensign." _________________

Mehv eyes the corpse warily and pulls his hand phaser out of its holster.
"The ship is this way, sir. Many of the buildings here contain alcoves. We can either find an alcove on the way or look for one after examining the ship."
Mehv moved towards the ship, his eyes scanning all around: doorways, rooftops, and around corners. He was determined not to let another unfortunate accident occur. While not as well trained as Talbert or the security officer, he scored decent marks in his weapons training. _________________

Roekil was on edge. He had armed his away teams to the teeth, many of them containing at least one sharpshooter with a TR-116. He had also given orders to lay out sensor beacons as needed.
Roekil had ordered Lt. Vanquax to stick to Ensign Mevhra Kuplo and cover him at all costs. He had brought along a young Petty Officer from security, PO Donohue, a human who was almost as tall as Roekil himself, and assigned him to watch the two scientists. His own task was to guard the new XO and as such he was sticking close to Commander Talbert _________________

Talbert drew up along side Ensign Kuplo. He did not know the new ensign, but his service record was good and things were shaping up well. He certainly seemed capable, or at least aware of the circumstances he found himself.
"Were you able to survey the ship on your last visit, Mr. Kuplo?" He was curious about the information that had been gathered on the last away team's mission. _________________

"Only a little, sir. I was involved heavily in the situation with the alien device we retrieved and only made it to the ship briefly before the ... incident."
Mehv steps over some debris strewn across the path. "What I can tell you is that it is roughly the size of a runabout." PO Donohue knocks into the debris making a scraping sound. Mehv whirls around phaser and tricorder at the ready, before realizing the cause.
Looking back at Cmdr Talbert, "Sorry sir, I'm a little jumpy. Anyway, I believe main power is non-functional, but I'd like to take a second look at that before I make a final conclusion. There is some auxiliary power and we were making a preliminary analysis of the ship's systems when the attack occurred." _________________

Talbert nodded, smiling to himself at the Ensign's nerves. He understood it, but seasoning had trained him to control himself slightly better. He punched his combadge.
"Talbert to away teams, let's start checking in. We are approaching the ship, and will begin our analysis. Let's not stay here any longer than necessary. Mr. Kuplo, put our scientists to work once we have accessed the ship. Let's see if we can restore power, maybe get it off this rock and back to the Guardian for analysis there."
He looked at Commander Roekil, who was constantly reading his tricorder and walking like a brick ninja, smooth if not very stealthy.
"Anything to worry about, Commander?" he asked. His tricorder didn't pick up anything unusual, but then again he didn't truly know what to look for. _________________

Mehv got the science personnel organized and coordinated their work before looking into the power situation on the ship. With the translation of the language improving with each interaction, the team steadily made headway into deciphering the ships systems.
(OOC: I'll wait a little while longer before moving forward with my part to let others post.) _________________

OOC thought I would point out that if you are only reading this thread they have somewhat converged on the science lab thread, read the last couple posts to catch what you may have missed. _________________

After a short period, Mehv calls to Cmdr. Talbert.
"Sir, main ship power is down. The system is non-operational and I wouldn't know where to start to fix it. There is a significant amount of power in the auxiliary system however. We should be able to get into orbit with it as long as I don't make any drastic maneuvers."
"We've also determined that there are no weapons on the vessel. Shields and other systems are highly advanced. The warp drive is very exotic; all we can tell is its there. The system is an enigma at this time." _________________

Talbert nodded and looked back to Commander Roekil and Lt. Vanquax.
"You two take a final sweep of the area, make sure we aren't missing anything, then hightail it back here! We lift off in 15 minutes."
He turned back to Kuplo. "Good work ensign, get things in motion. Forget the shields and defenses, put all power into the engines." _________________

Location: Alien vessel, planet surface
Reporting: Ensign Mehvra
"Very well, sir." And he turns to the scientist and gives direction to prepare for a liftoff in 15 minutes.
After a couple of minutes, you hear a "Good work, team." And then, "Commander, power has been transferred and the ... -- well, we'll call them the sub-light engines -- are ready at your command."
It is apparent that Mehv is rather excited and looking forward to the flight. _________________

(OOC: Gonna try to speed this up a little and head back to the ship);
Talbert touched his combadge. "Talbert to Roekil, wrap it up commander, we're leaving."
He turned to Mehv and nodded. "As soon as they are on board, get us up."
The security patrol returned to the ship and settled in for the trip back to the Guardian. _________________
