Character: Dr. Uroki
Location: Sickbay, USS Guardian

Uroki had to work quickly if Ensign Fontaine was ever going to walk again. His panic after the impact had greatly contributed to the stress on his spinal cord, which only exacerbated the problem. "Hand me the hypospray, Ensign" she requested of the nearest member of her staff, "he's still in a lot of pain." After injecting another dose of pain medication she turned back to the nurse, a definite look of urgency in her eyes. "Ensign, please inform the Captain that I'm doing everything in my power to save Fontaine, but I he will be in surgery for the next few hours."

The nurse nodded, and headed quickly for the door.

USS Guardian Staff Room
Captain Marek

Marek looked around the room, seeing that everyone had arrived that would arrive then began. "First off, I am please to announce that Lieutenant Mehvra-Kuplo has accepted the post of Chief Engineer, effective immediately. It is due in no small part to his hard work and guidance that the Guardian is in as good as state as she is in. Unfortunately, we will not be at full capacity until we are able to locate a shipyard to repair the Navigational Deflector. I am hoping that between all of us we can come up with a solution that will allow us to arrive at one in less than a year." Marek paused for a moment, then looked at Talbert, " I also believe your new 'friend' might be of assistance, Commander. Would you please introduce him?"

Roger nodded and stood, indicating Dorin. "This is professor Dorin, an anthropologist from these parts. We recovered him from a planet on which he crashed. The Tal'harton were searching his ship when we arrived, though they missed him. Lt. Vanquax saw to it that they didn't get the chance to find him." Talbert said the last part with a sly smile.

"Anyway, I believe he will be able to help us greatly, perhaps in conjunction with Lenara we may be well ahead of schedule in exploring this region in the next few weeks. Dorin, this is Captain Marek, a Vulcan. Captain Marek, Dorin."

He sat and let the rest of the meeting proceed on its own.

her violet eyes turned their attention to Talbert as he said her name, and she felt a small rush of relief that he didn't go into detail as to how she kept the Tal'harton from finding him.

perhaps i've been hasty in my judgements... she thought to herself and gave the slightest of smiles.

USS Guardian Staff room

Dorin smiles sheepishly, A Vulcan? This trip is turning into a goldmine! "Captain, if it's a shipyard you require, then there is one nearby, I was there just a month ago." He stands slowly, " Could someone put a starchart up on that screen please?" Thomas taps on her console quickly bringing up a chart of the immediate area. Dorin hobbled over to the screen, mumbling, "If that's where I crashed, that's Tenar, there this star system here, is called Panthanel. One of the moons of the fourth planet has a dilithium mining and trading post, and a very competent shipyard."

Thomas does some quick calculations, "Sir, if we can reach warp 6, we could be there in seven days."

Marek nods to the Ops officer, then addresses Dorin, "Thank Dorin, your help has been most timely." Marek turns to the rest of the room, "Now we just need to get warp 6 out of the ship for 7 days, any suggestions?"

Talbert nodded. "First off, we need to understand the risks inherent in traveling at warp without a proper deflector field. We come out of a cycle and hit something larger than a marble and we could conceiveably destroy the ship before we ever reach this Panthenal. I recommend traveling at less than warp, or at least lower warp while we focus triple teams on reconstructing a better warp-field deflector pattern."

"In addition, we seem to be at equal risk of encountering the Tal'harton whether we warp from here or no, so I discount that as a motive to move before we are completely prepared. It won't help us to get into a fight then or now if we haven't at least broadened our coverage first."

USS Guardian - Staff Room
Lieutenant Mehvra-Kuplo

"Sir, Commander Talbert is right. At those speeds, even a small amount of matter can cause disastrous damage to the ship.

I've been working on a solution and I think we can modify the tractor beam emitters to act as a temporary deflector. The basic operation behind them is very similar. With a little work, we can modify the tractor to respond to long range sensor data and deflect any particles. We'll have to increase the output capacity of the emitters, but I think the new systems that were installed during refit will handle the extra power.

I would like to run a couple more simulations, but Warp 6 may be pushing it. The tractor emitters just don't have the ability to update as fast as the main deflector. If we can spare the extra couple of days Warp 5 would allow enough buffer for the tractor emitters to respond."

USS Guardian Staffroom

Lenara leans forward slightly, "At warp 5 it will take 13 days to travel the same distance."

Marek ponders for a moment, "Lt. Kuplo, make it so, anything or anyone you need to help just ask. The priority is getting the ship to that shipyard. Commander Talbert, I want you to prepare a list of possible barter items, I am certain we will have to recompense the Myosians for the repairs."

Talbert nodded and looked to Dorin. "Perhaps you could help assess those needs, Professor. Commander Roekil," he continued, looking to the Brikarin officer, "We will need an away team when we arrive. I'd like to suggest assigning Lt. V to organize and oversee it. I'd like to meet with you to go over the particulars."

He glanced at the captain. "Is there any word on Ensign Fontaine?" he asked worriedly. He did not know much about Fontaine himself, but every member of a crew hit him personally. It was a shell that he put on himself that kept him aloof and seemingly uncaring. Still..he couldn't help but worry.

Dorin nods, "I can think of a few things, I'll start putting together a list."

"Is there any word on Ensign Fontaine?"
Marek shakes his head. "No, it is my intent to find out once we are done here." He turns to Kuplo, "If there is nothing else?"

Captain Marek wrote:

"No, sir. We'll get right on it."

Turning to Cmdr. Talbert, "Sir, I'll need to take some systems off line for a short period while the power is rerouted and the modifications are made." Handing a PADD to him, "I've made a suggested schedule, outlining the changes that need to be made and the downtime expected. Please review and let me know the schedule so I can move forward."[/quote]

USS Guardian Staffroom
Character: Ensign Nurse, NPC

She entered the Team Room, after knocking of course, and made her way to the Captain. Her nervousness was obvious, but she kept it in check. She waited until he regarded her before speaking, her voice low.

"Sir, Dr. Uroki sent me to give you an update on Ensign Fontaine. She would have done it via her communicator, but her hands were covered in..." she paused, deciding that he probably got the idea and that it was best to get straight to the point. "His situation is unstable at the moment Captain. He's in surgery now. The Doctor isn't entirely certain if it's possible that he'll walk again, but she's trying to save his legs. She'll keep you appraised of the situation once she's finished surgery."

The nurse stood, straight-backed and nervous. Her eyes wandered briefly around the room, taking in the faces of all the senior officers... Staring at her. She swallowed, audibly, and turned her eyes back toward the Captain.

Marek nodded to the Ensign, "Thank you, Ensign. Please keep me apprised of the situation." Marek turned back to the room. "Dismissed."

Looking to Talbert, she couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. he wants me to lead the team again? she thought to herself as she stood and waited for the others to depart, it wasn't in her to leave a room occupied unless instructed so.

"Comander Talbert" she spoke as he walked by "When you have a moment, may I speak to you?"

Talbert nodded and moved to the side of the bridge to give them some privacy.

"Lieutenant?" He inquired. "How can I help you?"
