Uvek stood and stretched for a moment. He was stiff and still wondering how things were unfolding below decks, where refits were being wrapped up and the ship was preparing to get underway. He glanced around the bridge, taking in the scene and listening to the buzz and hum of the room. Suddenly, he became aware of a familiar face, unseen until now. Ambassador Rolen. Uvek stared for a moment. The ambassador looked weaker than normal, even paler if possible, but he was there nonetheless. Uvek only hesitated a moment. He walked around the science stations and approached the Vorta with a smile.

"Ambassador Rolen, no worse for wear I see." he said as pleasantly as he could. "I am relieved to see you about. How do you feel?"

The Denobulan tapped her combadge and called out for assistance.

"Doctor Azmay, please report to Sickbay."

Doctor Azmay took the shortest way, and reported to Sickbay. E looked around, looking for Dr. Kiv. Not seeing him, e turned instead to Nurse D'Hala and Liutenant Ghan.

"Yes, Nurse? Is there anything this one could do for you?"

"M'Rowl?... That would explain a lot. It seemed a bit out of character for you."

The Captain shook his head and sat back, his face twisted in a combination of rage and confusion. He looked across the desk to his First Officer, hoping for some insight into the situation.

"Why would she do that?"

"And let's be honest, do I even have a duty to return to? The Captain relieved me of duty without even notifying me of his decision to do so. That pretty clearly spells out his feelings about my service."

The Caitian sat forward, looking as though she was about to pounce. Her manner was charged, either with excitement or anticipation, neither of which could be said for sure. After a moment she replied to Calodan.

"Perhaps you should think of this in a different light, Jim. Time to take some perspective, a chance to review your life and your decisions... I had hoped that in time you'd see that you were a necessary cog in the machine. With Commander Qech on medical leave, you would have been at the Captain's right hand, but your mistake caused a rift between the two of you... one I had hoped would have been healed by removing you from duty."

"Ambassador Rolen, no worse for wear I see. I am relieved to see you about. How do you feel?"

The Vorta's lips parted, forming a broad smile along the Ambassador's face. He was clearly weakened from his ordeal and not yet back up to the full strength that Uvek had seen in the months prior, but no matter, he was here and would make a show of it.

"Why, Lieutenant, you seem quite interested in my well being... could it be that there is a heart beating in your chest after all? I am deeply touched by your concern for me."

"Yes, Nurse? Is there anything this one could do for you?"

Lieutenant Ghan stepped forward, interposing himself between Doctor and Nurse.

"You can help me, Doctor. There is something terribly wrong with the flesh that was regenerated by Doctor Kiv! It has been nearly two weeks since my discharge from Sickbay for the Plasma Burns I suffered and LOOK!"

The Tellarite Engineer thrust out his arm towards Azmay, his porcine face aghast at the display before them:

His arm, perfect and unblemished tan skin. Perfect sans one thing. It was hairless.

At the sight of this, Nurse D'Hala rolled her eyes and stepped away from Doctor and Patient, returning to the necessary -- and considerably less stressful -- task of filling medkits.

"Why would she do that?"

Qech shrugged. "I can only speculate, Captain. Whatever her reasons, I'm sure she thought she was acting in your best interests. Most of her actions seem to revolve around that, even if she goes too far. Problem is... Jim thinks it was you." She shook her head. "I wish I'd known. I didn't know what to say when he said he'd been taken off duty, especially since it just didn't seem like something you would do. He needs to know."

"The ship went on without me M'Rowl. I know I have a part to play on the Hartington, but Im not sure if that part couldn't be played better by someone else."

He paused and looked out at the stars. "You're right though, I did need time off to think about what happened and gain some perspective on it all. I've been trying to wrap my mind around...everything." He looked off into the distance. "If the Captain wants me back on duty I guess I am ready to come back."

"He needs to know."

Captain Brennon nodded and rose to his feet, his face a mask of consternation. Tapping his combadge, he calls out to the Computer.

"Locate Lieutenant Calodan."

"Lieutenant Calodan is in the Team Room."

He nodded and motioned for Qech to follow him.

"I think you're absolutely right, Davynn. Let's go have a chat."

With that he stepped out of the Ready Room and into a nearby lift.

"Deck 8."

M'Rowl's face twisted in confusion at Calodan's words, clearly her plans had not played out as well as she had hoped. She shook her head as she spoke up.

"No, no you don't understand, Jim. The ship went on poorly without you. Surely you see that. The Captain has been overworked and very unhappy these past two weeks. It has taken ever gram of self control not to return you to active duty so as to lighten the burden from him. You made a mistake, Jim, but you need to accept that and move forward. What happened may be your fault but you acted in the best interests of the ship and crew. The Captain knows that and I'm sure that you do too -- or else you wouldn't have done it."

The Captain and First Officer stood at the doors to the Team Room, watching and listening to the explanation. Brennon himself stayed away, waiting to hear what Calodan had to say after M'Rowl's exclamation.

"The Captain knows that and I'm sure that you do too -- or else you wouldn't have done it."

"No, I wouldn't have done it. I made a snap decision, based on wanting to protect myself and the crew. Unfortunately, I sacrificed uncounted lives to rescue ours. I didn't know the Captain had had such a rough time of these last few weeks. You shouldn't have left me off duty so long if I was needed, I could have worked through my issues while still being useful. Hell, I probably could have handled it better if I hadn't felt quite so useless around here."

He noticed M'Rowl starting to say something but stopped her with a raise of his hand. "M'Rowl, I understand you meant well and I acknowledge I did need some time. I appreciate your efforts, but I suspect you'll have to answer some questions from the Captain." He flicked his eyes over her shoulder, noting the Captain and Commander Qech in the doorway. "If the Captain will have me and I can be useful to the crew, I am ready to return to duty."

"If the Captain will have me and I can be useful to the crew, I am ready to return to duty."

The Captain looked to Qech and stepped further into the room, coming to a stop next to the table where his Yeomen and Second Officer sat. Brennon looked down at Calodan for a moment before speaking, his voice face neutral but his voice betraying ever so slightly the emotions he was feeling.

"We'll be leaving orbit in about thirty minutes... you may want to change into your uniform if you're going to report for duty on time, Lieutenant. That is unless you've suggested to the Quartermaster a change to the Uniforms that I wasn't aware of."

Calodan stood from his seat. "Yes sir. While I suggested a change to the Starfleet Quartermaster he told me to stick with the classics...says they look good on me. If you'll excuse me, I'll go change." With a nod from the Captain, Calodan left the lounge and headed to his quarters. A quick change and a turbolift ride later, he had taken his station at Ops.

There were still many questions left unanswered, but at least now he was being useful.

Qech followed the Captain into the room, but held back slightly, not wanting to interfere. This is between them.

She hoped that at least having her there would convey to Calodan that the Captain had heard her point of view on the issue, which favored Jim's feelings over the continuation of his punishment.

Qech turned to the Captain after Calodan had marched from the room, apparently pleased to be back on duty. She smiled. "With your permission Sir, I'll think it's high-time I relieved Lt. Uvek."

Uvek's smile broadened at the mock sarcasm he had come to expect from the displaced dominion observer. He came closer to the Vorta and slightly turned, looking at the main viewer.

"Let's just say we may yet suffer the bond of brotherhood as a result of our recent ordeal." He looked sideways at Rolen. "I may have been hasty in my judgments of you prior to that event. A result, as I have come to understand it, or perhaps a by-product is a better word, of my conditioning through the Romulan Defense Forces." In a particularly NON-Romulan fashion, he extended his hand.

"At any rate, it was a judgment we could have done without. I hope you will accept my apology."

"With your permission Sir, I'll think it's high-time I relieved Lt. Uvek."

The Captain nodded as he glanced over to his First Officer, his eyes full of thanks. Whether the thanks were for her support or making a swift exit, Yeomen M'Rowl was about to find out.

"That sounds like a good idea, Commander. Keep me informed on our progress as we prepare for launch."

As Qech stepped from the room, Brennon's eyes settled onto M'Rowl.

Ambassador Rolen's smile broadened as he took the Romulan's outstretched hand.

"This is a momentous occasion, Lieutenant and I will remember it for a very long time. Apology accepted, thank you."

There was a twinkle in his eye that shifted suddenly from gracious to mischievous as he continued to speak to Uvek.

"Does this mean you will accept me as one of your deputies perhaps? I have been known to be fairly handy with a Phaser..."

Location: Sickbay, USS Hartington

Lieutenant Ghan climbed up onto the biobed with a snort of affirmation to Azmay. His beady eyes darted around the room, making sure there was no one else in Sickbay with them as he rolled up his sleeve again.

"You must fix this, Doctor. A Tellarite without hair is... is shameful. I'm lucky that my beard has grown back at all after the incident!"

Qech quickly left the team room behind her, not envying M'Rowl's position. Her desire to put the Tal'Harton incident behind her and return to duty was in full swing, and it was reflected in her outward appearance. Her posture was all-at-once rigid and graceful, like the marine soldier she had once been, her pace quick and quiet as she stepped into the turbo lift.

"Bridge."

Her uniform was fitting properly again; the result of being able to eat regularly, and she was in the processes of clipping her long, chestnut brown hair back into a high ponytail as she stepped back into familiar territory. The sounds of the bridge filled her ears, and she smiled at her crew-mates as she passed them at their stations, reserving a respectful nod for Calodan. It was good to see him back in his element. She noticed the tan that, like her, he'd picked up on the planet's surface and wondered if this had been a trick of the light... He'd seemed so pale in the team room.

The First Officer approached Lt. Uvek who was, to her great surprise, carrying on a seemingly pleasant conversation with Rolen. She stood, hands behind her back, and politely waited for them to finish their thoughts before smiling at them both.

"I'm here to relieve you, Lieutenant. Thanks for holding down the fort."
