Location: Conference Room, USS Hartington

As the team settled down around the table Captain Brennon spoke up, his voice serious and commanding. He was clearly worried about the situation and desperate for information. He began his inquiry very simply.

"What happened down there?"

Location: Sickbay, USS Hartington

Doctors T'Lau and Newell entered Sickbay behind the corpsmen who were carrying Lieutenant Calodan's stretcher. After gently placing the Lieutenant on a nearby biobed, Doctor Kiv stepped up, tricorder flipped open and scanning over Calodan's prone form. Within moments she looked to Newell, brow furrowed.

"What happened to him?"

While the room waited for the first response, Uvek quietly got up and walked over by Lt. Calodan, where he silently stood waiting to see what would happen and prepared to act if Lt. Calodan awoke or reacted violently.

"What happened down there?"

Qech wasted no time in answering, despite still being slightly (if unnoticeably) shaky from her last transport.

"Sir, after we beamed down to the surface we began picking up some strange readings; life signs that were disappearing and reappearing at random. Professor Kolar eventually concluded that we were picking up the rock-faces themselves... Some sort of silicon-based life form. When we encountered them we picked up some evidence of psionic abilities. Lieutenant Calodan seems to have been directly affected by them, and Lieutenant Zeara was able to make some sort of contact."

With that, she turned to the Diplomatic Officer. "Lieutenant, if you will?"

Location: Sickbay

Calodan sat bolt upright on the biobed, knocking a tricorder from the hands of the nurse leaning over him. He saw Doctors Kiv and Newell across Sickbay and called out to them. "I must see the Captain and Commander Qech immediately. It is of the utmost importance we go back to the planet now!"

He looked less crazed then he had in the transporter room, but spoke with an urgency that was outside of his normally laid back demeanor.

Taking a deep breath and looking at the Captain she shook her head lightly. "I don't even know where to begin Sir. It was like nothing I'd ever seen or experienced." she went quiet for a moment and looked away as she tried to recall what had gone on, as if the memory were trying to slip away from her.

"I don't really have the words to put what happened into. They are a strange race of beings. While trying to probe into what I assume was their leader's mind, I could pick up signs that were angered at our presence... as if we didn't belong, and they wont accept what doesn't belong." a look of confusion crossed her face as she tried to explain what she had felt and make it understandable to an outside party.

"They were not hostile, but they did not want us there. I would not suggest going back." She paused as a bit of the memory surfaced. "There was one rather strange thing that struck me. They did try to communicate with me, but something just wasn't connecting. It was like trying to speak on different frequencies..." she looked back at the Captain "but there was something else there... under the noise of their communication." she said and shook her head as if trying to chase away a nightmare.

Oliver glanced up from his tricorder, and walked over to Arjim's side.
"Wow there buddy, take it easy, just lie back down and explain, I will make the decision whether or not your fit enough to do anything. He nodded to the nurse who was brushing the dirt of her tricorder, and she continued to scan.

(OOC: I followed Calodan into what I thought was the conference room. As security there isn't much for me to report and I ordered the security team to standby in the transporter room, while I keep an eye on Calodan. If I am in the wrong place I can amend the post, of course, having said that I now realize that he is in sickbay)....

Uvek stepped closer to Calodan, tensing to grab hold of the trill if necessary. His mind was focused on his duty, not on hindering the Lieutenant or harming him, if it could be avoided. He looked at Doctor Newell and said "Doctor, if I may. Mr. Calodan is that you? Forgive us, but you seem less yourself just now. You must understand that there is some concern with returning to the surface given the reaction of Lt Zeara and now you. What specifically is the reason we must return, let's begin there."

Calodan swung his legs off the bed. "Lieutenant, I don't have time to explain it to you now. I need to see the Captain and Commander Qech immediately."

He waved off Doctor Newell and the nurse. "I'm fine you two. I just need to see the Captain..fast. Time is of the essence." He got to his feet, a little unsteadily. "Computer, please locate Captain Brennon and Commander Qech."

The computer replied: "Captain Brennon and Commander Qech are located in the Conference Room."

"Lt. Uvek, please escort me to the Conference Room immediately." He walked out of sickbay, a bit unsteady on his feet.

Smith and the rest of Uvek's security detail were standing by in Transporter room 3. Uvek had called Smith an hour ago for a high-priority, low intensity away mission.

As he understood it, the alien life form on the planet had tried to use Lt. Calodan as a go-between, so that is why Alpha team and Beta team were standing by... waiting for a medical intervention prior to departure.

"Petty Officer Smith to Crewman Mavers... are you on your way to Transporter Room 3?"

"Yeah boss... I'm on my way. Give me about 2 minutes, I'm around the corner."

Slightly miffed at this dismissal and unsure what protocol to follow, Uvek turned and followed his Second Officer out of sickbay. He did two thing simultaneously that surprised him and set the protocol he did understand in motion; he reached down behind Calodan and reset his phaser to stun, {never taking his eyes of the Second officer} and he tapped his combadge.

"Uvek to Conference room. Captain, Lt. Calodan and I are enroute to your location. He claims to have urgent information to share with you. My team is standing by in the transporter room, and we will arrive momentarily."

As Calodan and Uvek entered the turbolift, the Romulan moved to a corner, keeping a wary eye on the Ops officer. There was no conversation to start, no words to say. Whatever was going to happen was unfolding, and Uvek didn't like wasting words when action was called for.

Qech looked quizzically to the Captain when the message came through the comm system. She did feel that speaking to Calodan, however rattled he may be, may help shed some light on the situation. But she was glad for the security detail, in the form of Uvek, that was accompanying him just the same. There was one detail about the Security Officer's message that confused her, however...

"Transporter Room?... Why is security in the Transporter Room?" She turned to the Captain, knowing the answer already, but asking anyway. "You didn't authorize another away mission, did you?"

"You didn't authorize another away mission, did you?"

Brennon shook his head and looked between the assembled Officers before he spoke. He hated to admit it, but even though he wasn't consulted, keeping a team on standby wasn't a bad plan

"No, I didn't authorize it... but I think it may be prudent to be prepared. Contrary to what the Counselor is saying, all of the evidence suggests that our only way home may be to investigate what is going on down there. We'll need to have a conversation with Mr. Calodan, though I think we all know what his suggestion will be. Lieutenant Solana, while we wait for Lieutenants Calodan and Uvek to arrive, report on what you've discovered."

The slender Vulcan nodded her head and tapped a command on her console. As she did, an image of the planet below them appeared on the monitor.

"While our away team was on the surface, I continued my detailed scans of the surface, focusing mainly on the apparently non-native structures near the beam-in site. After several failed attempts, I was able to recalibrate the sensors to penetrate the chronal interference around the structure."

Solana taps the console again and the image changes to a view of an odd alien building. It was an obelisk, taller than the indigenous alien structures around it and constructed with completely different materials. What's more, this particular sensor image captured a very telling event. A humanoid alien crossing the courtyard between the indigenous structures and the obelisk. Solana continued her report as the group took in the picture.

"We are dealing with an artificially generated occurrence. There are clear indications of an advanced presence on this world, not unlike ourselves. I have isolated several generators inside the structure that are sending out pulses of tachyons. It is my belief that access to this structure will uncover the way back to our own time."

The Captain looked out at the faces of the away team, about to continue speaking, but is cut off by the entrance of Lieutenants Calodan and Uvek.

"Captain, Commander...I believe I may be able to fill in a few blanks in what happened down there." After a brief nod from the Captain, Calodan began what was sure to be a rather interesting explanation.

"The life forms on the planet, the same ones that tried to connect with Counselor Zeara have...merged their collective consciousness with me. At first, it was very overwhelming and they were totally in control..but now that we have had some time to...assimilate...it is like another joining..albeit a very strong one." Calodan paused to take a breath, and to gather and clear his thoughts. The presence in his mind was still very strong, but there was almost a language barrier. The information was coming in jumbles and bursts.

"They chose me after Zeara because her Betazoid telepathy was a danger to them as well as her. They were worried they were going to cause serious damage. Apparently, Commander Qech and I were second choices because of our experience in listening to other voices in our heads and understanding them. I don't have a complete picture yet...but I know they meant us no harm. This is how they communicate..with a collective consciousness. They want us to come back, they have something very important to show us. We need to go back to the planet Captain...no weapons. They won't harm us...and it is very important."

Qech looked to the Captain.

"It is our only option if we don't want to stay in the past, Captain. I've given Lieutenant Ghan the armbands for recalibration, otherwise we'd be down to a few minutes, but I don't know how soon he can have them finished."

She looked to Calodan. "If you really feel you're up to it, maybe you can help him speed things along... Though I'd feel better if you took some security along with you. It sounds to me like there are way too many people in there." She tapped the side of her head with her index finger, and smiled a little at Calodan, who looked like he had enough energy for ten Calodan's. She then looked back to the Captain.

"Sir, if it's alright with you, I'd also like to have Lieutenant Uvek look into alternate forms of defense, since phasers have been deemed an unacceptable risk. If we accomplish these things before we go I think we'll be far more prepared this time around."
