Quote: | ...They want us to come back, they have something very important to show us. We need to go back to the planet Captain...no weapons. They won't harm us...and it is very important." |
As Calodan spoke, Uvek visibly relaxed. he wasn't sure they were receiving the truth necessarily, but the Ops man's demeanor and speech certainly seemed to indicate his self-awareness and control. He moved from the doorway and approached Commander Qech. He wasn't sure that he had violated the commander's order for the entire away team to attend the debrief, but he was sure that having a team there was the right thing to do from a tactical standpoint. He would wait to see if the captain would want the team to remain involved.
Quote: | "Sir, if it's alright with you, I'd also like to have Lieutenant Uvek look into alternate forms of defense, since phasers have been deemed an unacceptable risk. If we accomplish these things before we go I think we'll be far more prepared this time around." |
Uvek was grateful for the commander's suggestion. He had wished for his Teral'n back there, and now he was certain that Petty Officer Koester would have other good suggestions as well. He looked expectantly at the captain.
(OOC: I edited this because I think Commander Qech and I posted at the same time, but she slipped in under the ribbon just ahead of me)..... _________________

her face went a bit pale at the thought of a second trip and she looked at those around her. a return trip is not on my list of priorities... but if we must, we must. she thought to herself and tried regain her composure. She wanted nothing more than to try to read those around her, but was still a little dizzy from the episode with the lifeforms and felt it best to keep her mind closed for a while. _________________

"If you really feel you're up to it, maybe you can help him speed things along... Though I'd feel better if you took some security along with you. It sounds to me like there are way too many people in there."
"I think I can help Lt. Ghan get the bands ready for service again. If Lt. Uvek would like to assign a few members of his security team to follow me there, I can get going now."
He took a deep breath. "I am feeling a bit...energized to be honest. All of this information in my head is buzzing around...my head feels like a beehive. The sooner we get back to the planet and can get these guys out of here.." he paused and tapped the side of his head mimicking Qech "The better." _________________

Uvek looked at Captain Brennon. "Captain?" he inquired "I have Mr. Smith, Mavers and Koester standing by. Given the delay of reconfiguring the armbands, we can take the time to collect some non-energized weapons and meet Mr. Calodan in the transporter room." _________________

(OOC: Sorry I've been away. My unit's been in the field all week)
Koester turned towards LT Uvek and asked: "Sir. Exactly what sort of weapons are we going to be permitted to carry?" |

Captain Brennon ran his fingers over his temples, massaging the soft points on his skull. Their time in orbit had seen a progressively worsening headache that the Captain had been trying -- and recently failing -- to ignore. As the reports finished coming in, his eyes rose to meet his First Officer's.
"Commander, assemble another landing party. Lieutenant Uvek, have your people loaded up with non-particle weapons, replicate Mr. Koester's signature weapon if you need to. Jim... I'd like you to return to sickbay for a full workup." he held up his hand before the Second Officer could protest. "I know you're feeling fine, but I would feel better if Kiv and her team checked you out. Don't make me turn it into an order. Once that is set and the Doctor clears you, we'll send down another team. Lieutenant Zeara, if they're using Calodan as a medium, will you be able to communicate with them?" _________________

Uvek nodded and turned to the door. "Uvek to Koester," he called into his combadge. "Please have the security team with you meet me in the armory." He glanced at Lt. Calodan and then to Commander Qech.
"Ma'am, if it is all right with you, I will set things in motion. I want to collect my Teral'n from my quarters and discuss weapon selections with Mr. Koester." _________________

taking a deep breath as she thought about what the Captain had said.
"I don't see why that wouldn't work..." she said and bit her bottom lip in thought. "It's the best shot we have really" she said as she looked to the Captian with a worried yet confident expression. _________________

The Captain nodded at his Diplomatic Officer's comment, seemingly confident enough for the whole crew.
"Good, then its settled. Commander, when everything has been made ready, take your team down and make contact."
ACTION
Over the course of the next hour, Uvek's security team prepared for their next encounter with the aliens while Lieutenant Ghan's engineering team completed work on the necessary armbands. In sickbay, Doctor Kiv learned that while Lieutenant Calodan seemed almost completely normal despite his experience planetside, there were a few key differences from his last physical. Most striking among them was an increase in adrenaline production, not unlike the reports of the parasites recently reported on Bajor (OOC: DS9 Novel, Unity). Never the less, Doctor Kiv's analysis determined that Lieutenant Calodan seemed to be his own man and gave the Trill clearance to go on the away team.
The team assembled once more in Transporter Room One, Lieutenant Uvek, Mr. Koester and the Security team -- this time bolstered by additional members, one for each non-security crewmen on the surface -- Lieutenant Solana replaced Lieutenant Rhak as mission Science Officer, Professor Kolar, Lieutenants Zeara and Calodan, Doctor Newell and Commander Qech commanding. With little preamble the team stepped onto the pad and vanished from sight, returning to the alien world below.
And straight into what appeared to be an ambush.
This time there was a larger group of aliens, 20 as a first rough estimate. They all hissed and clicked and screeched menacingly as the away team took form. Slowly, a number began to move forward, towards the Starfleet team. _________________

Koester tapped his comm badge and said: "Roger sir."
"Smith. Mavers. Let's meet the LT in the armory." Koester ordered before heading towards the armory. |

(OOC: As a precaution Uvek has authorized the use of TR-116s for several of the team, along with a refresher course from Koester. The rest of the weapons will be stun batons and handheld kabars, anything to avoid an energy discharge that would disrupt the armband fields).
LOCATION: PLANET SURFACE:
Uvek materialized and within seconds identified several of the stone-like beings closing in. He crouched, bringing his TR116 up to shoulder level.
"SPREAD OUT!" he called to his security team. "DON'T FIRE UNLESS IT IS UNAVOIDABLE!" He kept his eye on Commander Qech to see what she would require. As usual, she was having some disorientation, but he knew that would quickly pass, and his focus was back on the approaching aliens immediately. _________________

"Commander...I know what they want. I can hear them in my head..."
Calodan paused to make sure that exactly what he was hearing was true. "Commander, they want us to follow them..but not in a friendly manner. They consider us their prisoners. They have conquered this planet and we are trespassing. They have instructed us to lower our weapons immediately."
Calodan noticed the security teams instead raising their weapons. "Not a good idea. There are a lot of more these guys right around the corner and they don't have any compunction about using violence." _________________

The moment the approaching aliens came into focus, Qech bit back on the effects of the transporter sickness. She had her weapon in hand and her feet squarely planted on the ground in a defensive stance. She'd been ready for this possibility, but held out hope that there was still a misunderstanding somewhere.
"Commander, they want us to follow them..but not in a friendly manner. They consider us their prisoners. They have conquered this planet and we are trespassing. They have instructed us to lower our weapons immediately."
Qech hesitated only for a moment, and lowered her weapon. The situation was less-than-good, but there seemed to be a silver lining of sorts; the aliens may very well lead them to the source of the temporal flux. She looked around to the others. "Drop your weapons, but keep your eyes open. Don't forget what our purpose here is."
She stepped forward of the group as a way of conveying to the creatures their intention to yield, and whispered back to both Calodan and Zeara. "If either of you can get them to answer any of our questions in the meantime, they may find we're more useful as allies than as prisoners." _________________

Uvek straightened up. He glared at Lt. Calodan but held his tounge. This was the second time he was placed in a situation where he felt helpless. He did not like the feeling. Not one bit. He followed Commander Qech's order and dropped his TR-116. Besides, he still had his Teral'n and itmay be useful even against these things. _________________
