Talbert nodded his head, sizing up the man before him. He didn't want trouble but he certainly wasn't doing anything to attract it.

"I am, yes." He responded. "These are members of my crew. How can I help you?"

The Myosian nodded once to Talbert, as if confirming what he already suspected. "Captain Saia contacted me enroute, my name is Tarsis, I am in charge of the shipyards." He glanced over to the security officers, nodding. One left at a jog, the other visibly relaxed and stepped back several steps. "Your assistance to the Starchild is greatly appreciated, several shipping lanes have been targeted the last few months by pirates, leaving us short on several key supplies." He glanced at the crates, "Captain Saia's success, along with your supplies, make for valuable and powerful bargaining chips. Your ship will be given top priority."

The muscular commander's head dipped. "Tarsis," he replied with a smile, "That is the most romantic thing anyone has said to me in a long time." He turned to Lenara and Professor Dorin.

"You two should take some time to gather intel. See if there's anything around here that will enhance our knowledge of this region of space. Daniels and Tanaka, we need to learn frequencies and ship technology used by the various races the Myosians have encountered. See what you can find out. Lt. Vanquax, please see to Mr. Mehvra and help secure our goods. When you are done, meet me in Tarsis' office. Questions? Move out."

OOC sorry I don't have time for a full post right now, if anyone wants to simm, the ship is in dock, most likely we will be here to Jan IRL so any secondary lines you want to do that's great. Kuplo can have fun working with the Myosian Engineers if you want, Talbert, you can work with Tarsis, he's gruff but mostly just grateful for some much needed tools to keep the shipyard going. Might be able to post some later, thought I would let people simm away without me tho.

(OOC: UNDERSTOOD).......

Talbert followed Tarsis to a crowded office overlooking a docking bay on one of the more busy strips related to the facility. The facility man shoved a pile of papers and rolled blueprints off a dingy chair and indicated it for the Starfleet officer. Talbert dutifully sat, after handing his counterpart a PADD with the list of the materials the Guardian had brought. It was an impressive grouping.

"I think you will be particularly pleased with the tools, Mr. Tarsis. We read the Hartington's logs and assembled some specific ship-building tools we thought might be good."

Tarsis began grinning as he thumbed the PADD to life, and openly laughed when he saw the emulator modules. "Gods be praised!" He blurted out. "I can't tell you how many times we had to manually, er, adjust a computer we weren't familiar with...."

"I think you'll find a couple neo-dymium power cells as well," replied Talbert. We noticed you had some fluxuations during our scans on approach." Tarsis was practically drooling by this time, and he reached across his desk (knocking over a number of plastic PADDS and computer components in the process), and tapped a comm button.

"All right, Telldara, contact the Guardian and get up there. Let us know when they have received everything they need." A positive response sent things into motion. "Now then, Commander, since there is nothing to do but wait, why don't we find us some food, eh?"

The two men rose and moved deeper into the station, Talbert's stomach growling and his heart full to finally have some rest.

USS Guardian
Captain Marek

It was several days before Marek was spotted among the crew again, having his customary bowl of oatmeal at the crew's lounge. Outwardly he appeared fine, if a little more Vulcan than usual. The ships repairs were going well, and the crew was enjoying the shore leave. Marek sat reading a PADD, catching up on the ships progress. Kuplo and Roe where taking advantage of the warp core shutdown to do some maintenance and minor upgrades to some of the secondary plasma systems. Security had dropped Lenara's security detail and was now just monitoring her combadge signal.

Talbert approached the captain tentatively, having secured his location from the computer. He had returned to the Guardian a couple days ago, and had been monitoring the ship refit, automatically falling back into his role of ship's Operations officer. Department heads and crewmen were approaching him throughout the day and he revelled in it.

He was glad to see the captain out and about again, though he wished the circumstances had been different. He stood at the table and respectfully began.

"Captain, how are you? May I join you?" The captain indicated a seat. Something was different, thought the XO, but then, who wouldn't have been? He sat opposite the commanding officer and nodded.

"I'm glad to see you again sir. The ship's not the same without you. However, the refit is progressing well, we'll be ready to go in a few more days." He hesitated a moment on the next part, but only a moment. "I saw to the service for Commander Roekil. The entire security detail was present, as well as several other departments. We have secured his belongings and will be sending them back to his home world when we get a chance."

Marek listened to Talbert attentively, his face an inscrutable mask. When Talbert finished speaking, Marek looked around the room briefly, mulling over his response.
"Thank you Commander, I am grateful for your assistance." He looked down at his oatmeal, "I fear I have let my emotions get the better of me as of late, and have become more attached to the crew than perhaps a Vulcan should." He glances back up at Talbert, "I am no stranger to loosing crewman under my command, but this mission is not a war." He looked off into the distance, "I was unprepared for such tragedy on what was supposed to be a peaceful exploration of the Gamma Quadrant." Marek looks back at Talbert, "I promise you this Commander, I will not abandon this crew again, for any reason."

Roger leaned back. The revelation hit him in the gut and his mind went back to Operation Border Watch; the Odessy exploding on his view screen and the Jem Hadar warships attacking the station, his crew dead or dying, his mind locking up....

"Don't be too hard on yourself sir. Before I was assigned to Starship duties I had become very close to a team I was leading. I lost the majority of my team to the Jem Hadar. I was so devastated that I nearly resigned." He shifted his gaze and looked at the captain. "However, since then I have spent a lot of energy distancing myself from crewmen and others. Of late, I've begun to realize that can be a trap in its own right."

He indicated that he wanted a coffee and an attendant headed over with the drink.

"I think the key is to strike a balance between your position and your personality. Which, as a vulcan I am sure that can be difficult, what with the majority of your population forsaking emotions, but for a human it's no easier. I want to feel closer to those under my command, but I can't afford to. Unfortunately, I've been harder than I think is necessary at times." A pause as the coffee arrived. "Anyway, sir, I'm glad you're back on rotation."

Marek grabs the PADD, shifting slightly in his chair, "It appears the crew is making good use of their time. I hope that Mehvra is taking at least some leave, it appears so far he is working far too much."

Talbert smiled. "I'll suggest it, but he was up here as soon as the material was delivered. Lt. V and Lenara are still exploring, along with Professor Dorin. I have no idea what happened to them."

The human looked at Marek and cocked his head. "What about you, sir? Despite your meditation period, you could use some fresh air. The planet has plenty of distractions and, as I understand, some beautiful scenery."

He knew the suggestion might fall flat, but in addition to being First Officer, Talbert was Marek's friend and he wanted him to be as happy as vulcan could be. The previous missions were less than pleasant and any diversion might just tip the balance.

Marek nods, "I will likely do that starting tomorrow, I have duties to attend to today." Marek stands, "Speaking of which, I have lingered long enough, good day Roger." Marek leaves the Lounge.

OOC This will be my last post, see you all next year!

Talbert walked into engineering. As the doors opened his voice could be heard booming across the open space and even seemed to echo off the warp core.

"...AND KEEP OFF THE WALL! THIS IS A STARSHIP NOT YOUR NIGHTCLUB LOUNGE!" He moved into the room watching heads duck and personnel move a little quicker. After a quick glance around, he found Mehv up to his elbows in a wall panel.

"How's it coming Mr. Kuplo?" He asked in a much quieter tone. "I understand you have some good ideas for upgrading our plasma conduits. Need anything?" He noticed the Myosian techs uncrating components and linking systems. Things seemed disorganized but to an expert's eye, they were well in hand.

Extracting himself from the panel, he motions for an ensign to take over while he moves to meet Talbert. "Commander!"

Unable to contain his curiosity, he just had to ask, "What was that all about?"

After listening to the response, Mehv returns to the Commanders questions. Mehv looks excited, almost giddy. The repair and upgrades have been like playtime for him and he couldn't think of a better way to spend his time. "The repairs to the main deflector system are going smoothly. The parts and materials we've been able to trade with the Myosians and their help in completing the repairs are just what was needed."

"I've even been able to rotate the team so they can take some personal time to get out to the planet, if they so choose. The team is really starting to work well considering the heirarchy changes." Mehv had been taking double shifts and to the chagrin of the human crew, it seemed to only make him more chipper and work harder. The thought never crossed his mind to take some time off himself. He couldn't be happier than doing what he was doing.

"The plasma conduits, yes. It is nothing out of the ordinary, sir. When the Guardian went through it refit and they upgraded the systems, they necessarily had to upgrade the power distribution system to support the requirements of the new technology. It occurred to me that the secondary plasma conduits didn't get the same treatment. If we had to switch over from the primaries, we'd either blow out the secondaries, or the systems they'd be supplying wouldn't get enough juice. I'm just making sure the backup system can support what we need."

"These kind of things are not that uncommon. When you are not designing from the ground up, but taking an existing design and modifying it, there are things that tend to get overlooked. Plus, the modifications don't go through as strenuous a test process as a new design would get."

"What was that all about?" asked Lt. Kuplo. Talbert smiled and looked over his shoulder at the door then back to the chief engineer.

"Just reminding some crewmen of the difference between shore leave and duty stations. The refit is going well, your team has things pretty well under control." He looked at the crew working around him.

"The captain was wondering if you shouldn't take some shore leave yourself. You have been here as long as I have and you probably won't get a chance like this for some time. The captain is going down to the planet tomorrow, maybe you should cut out yourself. Find some private time. I all ready had mine with Tarsis. Not an order, just a suggestion."
