USS Guardian Staffroom
Lenara
Lenara had waited as Vanquax and Talbert had spoken, when it appeared the conversation was almost complete she approached. "Commander Talbert, I would like to participate in the away team." She glanced at Vanquax as she spoke, smiling slightly. _________________

Talbert's face showed a mix of surprise and interest. He nodded, "I see nothing wrong with that at the present. You certainly have a lot to catch up on." After a momentary pause and a glance at Commander Roekil he said, "Very well, I'll clear it with the captain. You'll forgive me if I ask a security officer to stay close to you. I think you are a little too valuable to our future to allow anyone to take advantage of you."
He turned to Dorin. "Professor, see Lt. Thomas. She can help provide you with the necessary information you need to assemble a trading list."
He moved over to the Brikarin officer, who seemed slightly preoccupied.
"Roekil, is everything all right? You haven't said a word. Is there anything I can do?" _________________

USS Guardian, Staff room
OOC Sorry folks, had internet issues this weekend, no internet at home. I'm catching up at work, but I'll keep everyone apprised, I might not be on for thurs. thru sun.
Lenara nodded, "Understood Commander, and thank you." She left the staffroom with a smile on her face.
"Professor, see Lt. Thomas. He can help provide you with the necessary information you need to assemble a trading list."
Dorin glances over to the young woman that Talbert motioned towards. Well, at least she is attractive "If you wouldn't mind moving over here Lt., this old man has some bones to regrow." Thomas smiled wryly, grabbing a PADD and moving over to a chair next to Dorin. _________________

USS Guardian - Main Engineering
Lieutenant Mevhra-Kuplo
Walking into Main Engineering, he stops and addresses the crew there. "As you may have heard, I have been offered and have taken the position of Chief Engineer. I will be counting on you, and know that I can count on you all to keep this ship operational at all times. You did marvelous work during the last engagement and you should be proud of yourselves."
"On to new stuff, we've been approved to enact the method we've come up with to use the tractor emitters as a deflector screen. I've divided you up into squads Alpha through Foxtrot. Please check your assignment and work schedule so that we can get moving as quickly as possible. Some of these tasks need to be completed during specific time frames to ensure efficiency for all ship operations. Let me know if you have questions. I'll be available whenever you need me. Lets get to it and get this ship moving again!"
Hoping that he has sufficiently motivated his teams, he moves specifically over to Chief Roe. "Chief, I didn't assign you to one of the other teams as I have a task for you that requires your specific expertise. Since our deflector screen may not be totally effective, I would like you to attempt to tie in the long range sensor data that is used for directing the deflector to the warp drive. I'd like to have the warp drive modify our speed accordingly, even drop us out of warp if necessary, when the tractor emitters either can't keep up or have missed something. This should ensure we are always traveling at maximum safe speed even in constantly changing environments. If done correctly, we might be able to make Warp 6+ after all." Mehv gives Roe a second to think.
"What are you thoughts?" _________________

USS Guardian Main Engineering
Chief PO Dylan Roe
Roe eyed the Grazerite for a moment, a slight frown on his face. He and the Captain had both agreed on him stepping down as Chief Engineer, but it still rankled him a little. Kuplo had proven to be an excellent engineer, and his idea was actually quite good. He cleared is throat, then spoke. "The amount of data that will be coming in at warp will be massive, we would need to use most of main computer's processing cycles." He paused rubbing his chin. "I think if the Captain allows us to shutdown or redirect all secondary computer systems the bioneural gelpacks should be able to handle it." He changes his terminal interface, "I'll be begin simulations immediately, I agree it will likely work." He glances at Kuplo, "It's a good idea," He grudgingly admits, "sir." _________________

"Roekil, is everything all right? You haven't said a word. Is there anything I can do?"
"Everything is fine sir. Just trying to be more of a silent observer. Sometimes it is good to have someone who just observes the situation and absorbs as much data as posssible." He paused for a second before continuing. "Sir, I have serious issues with allowing Lenara the amount of access she seems to have been given. We know very little about her, and her only restriction seems to be having one of my team tail her around the ship." _________________

Talbert nodded, and sat on the edge of the table with a somber expression. "I can understand that, Commander." he started. "However, we have developed working intelligence on her race, she has been instrumental in developing that technology, and helped us breakdown the barriers to her ship's technology as well. I'm inclined to believe that the level of information she has already amassed could easily compromise us, if she chose to do it. But so far, she seems harmless enough." He looked to the door, where Lenara had passed.
"I'm trusting the captain's instincts on this, as well as my own. Of course, we can trust but we still need to verify. We'll keep the security watch on her for now." He stood.
"On a related subject, what do you think about Lt. V leading the away team security detail? Any thoughts on our report from the rescue mission?" _________________

"I believe Lt. V acted a bit rashly in her actions on the rescue mission, but in this case I think the ends justified the means. I think we should let her lead the security for the away team and see how it goes." _________________

Talbert nodded again, straightened out his tunic and breathed deeply.
"Ok, Commander. I'll let her know to assemble a team. Lt. V, Professor Dorin, Lenara, security and myself. I think that should handle it. Thanks."
He patted the security chief on his rock-like shoulder as he moved out the door, heading off to help Professor Dorin, and oversee Lt. Thomas and the Ops team coordinate ship-wide repairs. _________________

USS Guardian
With nothing better to do, and wishing to be more prepared, Lenara steps into the holodeck. She begins typing rapidly on the console, searching the computer for a suitable program. After a moment, a room materializes. It was an old earth Japanese style dojo. Solid wood beams held up the roof, but the walls appeared to be made of paper. Along the side walls were rack upon rack of weaponry. Lenara walked to the center of the room. "Computer, begin program." A human male appeared, japanese, wearing a traditional kimono and dogi. Starting at the beginning, the holographic sensei began teaching Lenara the art of self defense. Several hours of rapid progression later, Lenara had reached level fourteen on the program, but seemed to have plateaued for the moment. Perhaps a live teacher could help me discover my trouble Lenara ended the program, walking towards the arch. Her security detail that had previously been relaxed in her presence now appeared tense, and very much alert. Her warm smile did nothing to ease their tense shoulders. As she entered the hallway, she thought she might continue work on her regeneration platform, so she headed to her quarters, her shadows tailing her.
Main Engineering
Roe had been running simulations in main engineering for hours, and had been pleasantly surprised how well the plan worked. He called over to Kuplo, who was overseeing the tractor beam adjustments. "Lt Kuplo, a moment please."
Bridge.
Lt. Thomas had sat Dorin at an unused science station, and with a brief computer lesson, and some basic computer access granted, Dorin had begun an inventory of items that would be useful in trade. Much of the list was basic engineering tools.
Thomas had been watching Dorin work, helping as needed. She was surprised at some of the items on the list. "For a competent shipyard, the seem to need a lot of tools. Don't they have their own suppliers?"
Dorin chuckled, "It's really not humorous, but the Nekrali have been ravaging the trade routes for months. The best tools come from Bitaan, and there hasn't been a freighter that has made it from there in months." _________________

USS Guardian - Main Engineering
Lt. Mehvra-Kuplo
Mehv finished up reading the report of an ensign assigned to Beta squad, working on the EPS conduit upgrades. "Looks good so far. Keep at it."

Roe brought up a report on the terminal he was working. "I have run multiple simulations, and I believe we reach warp 6.2 safely, in my simulations I've found 99.92% of the times traveling at a maximum of 6.2 the ship receives minimal to no damage. It is destroyed .00001% of the time at that speed. At warp 7 we drop down to an 82% success rate. We will need to use the secondary computer core to run all secondary systems, but it should work." _________________

Mehv quickly looked over the data presented by Roe. The work was thorough and great news. "This is excellent, please start making the modifications Chief."
As Roe gets started on the changes, he looks over the progress his teams are making. Thinking it time to check in with the Captain, he locates the him and heads to his ready-room. Pressing the bell, he waits for a response. _________________

USS Guardian Ready Room
Captain Marek
Marek had been trying to read a readiness report from Roekil, but really was just wondering if Fontaine had gotten out of surgery yet. He looked up at the door, "Enter." He placed down the PADD as Kuplo entered. "Mehvra, have a seat." He motioned to the chair in front of his desk. _________________

USS Guardian - Captain's Ready-room
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo
Upon hearing the command to enter, he walks across the room and sits at the invitation. "Thank you, Captain. I wanted to give you an update to our progress. Normally I just would have sent a message, but I have an idea to run by you also. But, first things first, we should be able to get underway in 6 hours. The system modifications are going smoothly and should be completed in 4 hours or so. At that time, I think it is prudent to run some short low-warp tests to ensure our simulation results. Once complete we can then safely move freely.
"I should note that ship acceleration will be dramatically increased as the temporary deflector system reacts to the requested change in speed. Maybe taking 5-10 times longer for the jump."
"As for the idea, my team has found a way for us to increase the safety of us traveling at high-warp. The plan is to tie in the long-range sensor data that is normally gathered for the main deflector to operate and use that to monitor how effective the modified tractor emitters are performing. This can then allow the computer to modify our speed accordingly based on the data to ensure nothing is missed by the emitters if they can't keep up."
"The end result is that we can travel at Warp 6 safely, Warp 6.2 even. Roe's simulations shows that as we approach Warp 7 however, the risk increases to about 20% chance to incur damage and a significant chance of completely destroying the ship. So I don't recommend anything faster than 6.2."
"The downside is the strain it puts on the main computer. Normally the deflector subsystem handles the data crunching and has a separate special purpose processor. This was damaged however, so we'd have to reroute that to the main computer. All secondary functions would have to be handled by the secondary computer core. The compromise to our redundancy might be worthwhile in this case. We'll also allow for the routine to shutdown on command, if the need arises, automatically dropping us back to a max of Warp 5." _________________
