Captain Wells stepped off of the turbolift and gazed upon the now completed bridge of Challenger. Her sleek consoles, top of the line computer systems and modifications to that put Enterprise and Columbia to shame -- at least in his mind. It wasn't like he hadn't been here before, once selected for command, Caden Wells had spent a great deal of time aboard ship, overseeing almost every aspect of her construction. Once an Engineer... he thought to himself as he stepped off the lift and started around the Bridge.

Officer and crewmen had started to take their stations, even though the official launch was not for another hour... there were still last minute items to be overseen. Wells ran a hand along one of the forward vertical displays, an addition to the NX Class Bridge first seen on Columbia, now a standard tool. The station could be configured for any system on the ship, most often showing Tactical data. At the moment, it was completely dormant, not needed while in spacedock. Wells smiled grimly to himself as he thought of Jonathan and Erica, his comrades-in-arms, and the warning Jonathan had sent him along with his congratulations. "You'll need everything you can get Cade, the Final Frontier isn't as empty as we though..."

He shook his head as he switched the display back into standby mode and took his seat. Space may not be as empty as we though, he mused, But I think we'll be ready for whatever it'll throw our way. He shifted his weight and pressed a control on the seat.

"Senior Officers, this is the Captain. Report in please."

NX Challenger - Main Engineering
Lieutenant Namara

Namara had been running around crazy all day. He didn't trust his new crew yet. They seemed awfully ... inexperienced. He was re-checking all the work and correcting the mistakes. The looks he was getting were starting to get on his nerves.

Captain Wells wrote:
Senior Officers, this is the Captain. Report in please.
Walking over to the comm unit on the wall, he activated it. With irritation clearly in his voice, "Engineering to bridge, I should have this thrown together mishmash of systems up and running by launch sir, if I don't keep finding problems. The main power core is coming up now and sublight will be up soon."

The mission operation consuls forward of the bridge are one of the understated, crucial areas, in Lt. Commander Vishani's opinion. In an emergency, while the command crew is organizing the whole of the ship, the enlisted crew will be here, making adjustments to armor polarization, maintaining phase cannon alignment, and any number of small yet crucial tasks without which a whole battle could crumble in an instant. With danger from the Xindi, Romulans, and Klingons all considered, preparation towards every eventuality just made sense. With much of his earlier day taken up inspecting the rest of the major mission support areas of the ship, and trying to avoid stepping on the engineers' toes, Vishani was beginning to feel quite at home on this sibling to his previous vessel.

"Senior Officers, this is the Captain. Report in please."

The itinerant Brahmin walked around the corner, through onto the bridge itself, his eyes taking in the clean perfection of the just finished craft. Tossing up a cheerful salute upon seeing his new Captain, he responded, "Lieutenant Commander Yashvir Vishani, reporting for duty, sir."

Kyle actually jumped. What the.....? That was the main speaker! The captain wasn't even in his quarters! NUTS! Why didn't he just check with the computer? Man, for someone with a computer background, you sure can limit yourself Marko, he thought to himself.

He turned and walked through the twin doors of the bridge, saw the captain sitting in his command chair, he swept through and took the center seat, just before the main viewer.

"Lt. Marcus reporting in, sir." he said sheepishly. He spun around and activated the power guides on his console. Then he took a moment and looked around. From the trim metallic deck to the various consoles, he could see that this bridge would not be crowded. Aside from the captain and himself, there were only a couple other spots for crew. Wow. He was truly a key to the ship. The magnitude of it began to sink in and his nervousness took a leap in magnitude. With sweaty palms he activated the stellar deflector array, powered up the navigational computer and began orientation on the varous command keys.

He was ready.

Character: Major Urso Hofmann
Location: Armory

Major Hofmann was busy opening crates and inventorying weaponry in the armory when the Captain's call went out over the intercom. He wiped his hands off on his jumpsuit and mopped his brow with a rag before stepping across the room to the intercom panel.

"Major Hoffman reporting in Sir." His Hungarian accent was imperceptible except for a slight rolling of the r in Sir. "I am in the armory performing an inventory." He released the button and heard the insistent click of a new ship's comm system. Over time, this ship would wear, as every ship did, but for now the ship still smelled and acted new.

Captain Wells nodded as each of his principle officers called in, smiling as his old friend once again slipped up with. Nicely done, Alex he thought to himself as the roll call continued.

"Engineering to bridge, I should have this thrown together mishmash of systems up and running by launch sir, if I don't keep finding problems. The main power core is coming up now and sublight will be up soon."

The Captain nodded as he shifted his weight in the chair. Wells didn't particularly like the idea of leaving spacedock without everything working properly, on the other hand...

"Keep troubleshooting, Lieutenant. This is exactly what shakedown is for. With any luck we won't be running into any Romulans that far out, but I'll trust you to keep the ship from coming apart."

Upon seeing Lieutenant Commander Vishani, the Captain smiled and rose to his feet. He'd heard many a good thing from Erica Hernandez, the biggest reason he'd signed the ambitious young Indian man on to be his Number One. Wells returned the Officer's salute and extended his hand out.

"Lieutenant Commander Vishani, it's a pleasure to meet you. I trust you're getting settled in alright?"

"Thank you, sir, for having me aboard. I've just about made myself comfortable here," he replied, taking the Captain's hand in a tight grip for a few moments, and meeting his eyes. "I'm looking forward to serving in your crew, and everything I'm sure we will accomplish for the good of mankind."

Vishani took a couple moments to look about the bridge, drawn to the crew aboard, the walls, and slightly beyond them as well, before bring his face back to Captain Wells. "Challenger reminded me of coming home since the moment I stepped aboard. In a way, being Columbia's sister, I suppose that there was no other way view her. But nostalgia's unbecoming for something as joyous as a launching. These are moments for looking to everything that we will do here. Let's make Earth proud of her newest ship, and every last crewman aboard."

"Let's make Earth proud of her newest ship, and every last crewman aboard."

The Captain laughed a little and clapped his XO on the shoulder as he replied.

"Sounds like a good idea to me, Commander. Take your station"

The Captain and First Officer had just finished off their discussion when the new vessel's conn officer stepped up and presented himself.

"Lt. Marcus reporting in, sir."

Wells nodded to the young Lieutenant and motioned for him to take his seat at the front of the Bridge.

"Welcome aboard, Mr. Marcus. Glad to have you with us. Commander Vishani, could you please alert space dock that we're taking on the last of our crew now and that we'll be departing within the hour."

Before Vishani had a chance to respond to the Captain, another voice rang out over the comm.

"Major Hoffman reporting in Sir..."

Captain Wells reached down and pressed his comm panel, speaking out towards the MACO Officer.

"Understood, Major. Tell your men to expect a visit before we launch."

"Understood, Major. Tell your men to expect a visit before we launch."

"Yes Captain." Hofman tapped the comms again. "Major Hoffman to all MACOs. Assemble in the armory for inspection on the double. Field dress, spit and polish."

Hofmann had trained these men to a team. All 11 of them had been handpicked by himself for this assignment. He had forged them into a weapon, a sigular mind. He knew that this inspection would go fine.

"The Dockmaster's been informed, Captain. Everything will be ready for us once the last of the crew has found their bunks," Vishani said after a few moments, and brought his eyes to his screen. Silently, he began to check off the preparations left before they could depart. Cargo was already stowed, and reserves for the warp core were at maximum. Armories full of torpedoes. All the primary stations were manned and ready, or would soon have their crew in place. Almost everything was in order. Until the last of the crew arrived there would be nothing to do but wait.

Kyle Marcus wasn't waiting, though. He was busy firing up the nav computer, checking controls for the warp drive reactant pre-heaters for the eventual jump to faster-than-light speed. It was amazing to him that here, in these relatively close quarters, he would be the first to activate the new ship's warp drive! Despite the simulations past, this would be Kyle's first true warp/space experience. He was pumped and ready to go!

He tapped the Inertial Navigation System and brought the helm control horizon level. He then fed this information into the star tracker and let the computer gather information on the precise location and orientation of the ship compared to Earth. They were ready to go.

"Helm controls standing by, captain." He reported. Now it was just a matter of time.

Uros stood in front of his team of MACOs. 7 men, 4 women...handpicked to be on his team, all trained to a razors edge of efficiency. Now, they were standing in front of him, assembled at parade rest waiting for the Captain's inspection. Every single one was kitted out in their battle dress uniform, a grey camo, wearing their equipment belts with their phase rifles hanging off of their shoulders.

Their belts were wearing carrying standard battle armaments. Each MACO had 3 photon grenades, their EM33 sidearms and 3 extra power clips, and their stun batons. Uros stood before them, kitted exactly the same except his kit had swapped the stun baton for a second EM33. He walked up and down the line, examining his troops.

"Alright, we have all trained for this for the last 3 months. We worked hard in Atlanta, on the Janus Loops, and in New York. I stand before you today just to remind you of one thing...who we are. We are MACOs. This crew is Starfleet. We are not trained like them, we do not think like them, we are not the same as them. Nothing in our orders prevents us from fraternizing with this crew, but our orders do demand we remember one thing. WHO ARE WE?"

"MACOS!" The team shouted back at him.

"That is right. We are MACOs and we are going to perform like MACOs on this cruise." After another curt nod to his team he walked to the intercom on the wall. "Captain, MACOs assembled in the armory awaiting your inspection." He clicked off the intercom and looked at his team. With his voice slightly softer, he said to them "At ease, but you better snap to as soon the Captain walks through those doors."

Location: Armory, Challenger

Captain Wells walked through the corridors of the ship -- his ship -- making his way down towards the Armory. At the moment, Challenger lacked a proper Armory Officer, but Commander Vishani had more than enough training to take the ship into battle. At this moment, as he walked down to meet the MACO squad for the first time, his thoughts went back to the initial briefing he had with Admiral Gardner when he accepted command of Challenger.

Things are getting tough out there, Captain, I don't have to tell you. With the Romulan attack on Coridan and the Vulcans hardly lifting a finger to defend the Coalition... we need to protect our own, Cade. I'm not going to order you to bring on a squad of MACO's, but I think It'll do you some good. Just ask Archer how much they were able to help him during the Xindi mess. I've already taken the liberty of scheduling you a meeting with General Casey. Take some time, talk it over with him, you may find that they rub off on you...

Wells stood in front of the Armory door, his friend's voice ringing in his ears. His hand reached out for the door controls as he muttered to himself.

"Good idea, Sam..."

Wells' fingers brushed the control and the hatch parted for him as he entered the room. His eyes darted around from each unfamiliar face fitted in the unfamiliar uniform of the Military Assault Command Operations. After a moment, he looked to Hofmann and spoke.

"Major, welcome aboard Challenger."
