I voted for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

I enjoyed the serial nature of the show as well as the deep relationships between the characters.

A lot of fans say that it was a darker show and that is true, and in that way I think it was the most realistic of the Star Trek series.

The relationships between the three Sisko men, Sisko and Kasady, Worf and Dax, Sisko and Dax, Quark and Odo... they felt real to me. Don't get me wrong, I loved Troi and Riker (Riker is my favorite character in the whole franchise) but the way Sisko came to the station as a broken hearten widower and over time overcame his grief to meet someone new, someone who complimented him in every way... I loved it.

I also enjoyed the religious aspect of the Bajorians and the part that played on the show. Star Trek as a whole tends to stay away from religion and with good reason, it's a tough subject. The situation with the Bajorians was always done well in my opinion and added a depth to the show that was unmatched.

The Next Generation will always be my introduction to Star Trek, it will be my Star Trek mother if you will... but Deep Space Nine formed the core of my love for Star Trek. The story, the most important part of any entertainment, was the best over all.

What would Star Trek be without Kirk, Spock, McCoy? Where would we be if Gene had not created the series to begin with? How is it possible that such a program, over 3 short years, with a pathetic budget created such a mythos?

This thing is bigger than any other science fiction program or idea, when you combine the various television, movie, book, and other media deals that have come with it. I'll say it like they did on HOW WILLIAM SHATNER CHANGED THE WORLD....you may not care for his acting, but you surely care for his character.

I love all the series (except maybe voyager), but really, nothing else matters without the first.....I guess I'm showing my age.

For me, it is TNG with a secondary vote for Voyager.

I still have yet to see all of TOS (and that is me showing MY age), so my opinions may change after getting to see more of Star Trek's roots...but TNG was my childhood love. I grew up watching Star Trek...loved it. Data was and still is my favorite character. I always felt slightly alienated as a child (I was adopted and look different from the rest of my family) and could identify with his character so much. Still do from time to time.

After TNG, I didnt watch much until Voyager. I immediately was drawn to it and enjoyed it immensely, even though most Trekkies disavow it as a space soap opera instead of a Trek. I felt Voyager had a good mix of characters and technobabble to keep my interest. I keenly remember waiting all week for it to come on, and devouring it with the same voracity I used to enjoy TNG.

I never really watched DS9, until recently (which explains why I keep acing the DS9 based trivia!). I agree they had a good mix of characters, and seasons 5-7 were some of the best Trek I have seen, barring the religious "hokiness" with Sisko and the Prophets. I felt it really distracted from the story as a whole.

I REALLY wanted to like Enterprise. I tried so hard to do so. They really had an amazing cast and I could 100% get behind Scott Bakula as a predecessor to the Captains we saw "in the future". It was just so hard to like, with some really contrived and forced (and recycled) story lines. And I absolutely hated how they ended it...really detracted from the show as whole by making the last episode a holodeck adventure. As great as it was to see Riker and Troi and "The D" on TV again not in reruns...I felt it was disrespectful to the actors and crew who had worked to eek out the modicrum of success Enterprise had. Oh...and the theme song...GARRGH!

hahaha.....good posting Calodan....hahaha

I had not (you will notice) even mentioned Enterprise...can we please just move past that as a civilization?

I was hoping it was one of those Dallas moments, when Pam woke up next to Bobby and said...."I just had the oddest dream." HAHAHAHA

sorry all, that's REALLY showing my age. But, in all seriousness, If you can move into the original, spend some time with the quality acting of Leonard Nimoy and DeForrest Kelly, you will see why the universe is such a great place to live.

DAMMIT JIM, I'M A DOCTOR, NOT A MIRACLE WORKER! I love him.....
WHY SPOCK, OF ALL THE GREEN BLOODED, POINTY EARED, HEARTLESS.....

then, there is the whole vulcan thing. I love TNG, too, believe me, it opened up a LOT of the other races....more even than TOS, and I love the concept of the Borg (they can really be traced WWWAAAAYYY back into the original show, if you tie in NOMAD), but again, my vote is here.

The Drumhead....great episode....so was The Best of Both Worlds (MY favorite of the series).....but, it all comes home to Kirk.

love ya guys all ready, this will be a great deal of fun

I can understand why you feel this way. I myself hated Enterprise until the last two seasons of the show (only I watched them after the show went off the air). After 5 episodes of seasons one I stopped watching until a year after the show left the airwaves. I remember saying "i'm getting the rest of the franchise on DVD so I may as well get this one too". I was pleasantly surprised by Season 4 to be honest and Season 3 had a lot of the serialized storyline that I loved in DS9.

The Vulcan episodes were a fun look into the culture of the most important alien species in the franchise and the three part Babel, United, Aenar arch was fun. I loved the handling of the Andorians (Jeffery Combs for the win) and I loved the "ending" of the show. I say "ending" in quotes because These Are The Voyages... the episode most people call the last episode of Enterprise wasn't meant to be the end of just Enterprise, it was meant as a farewell to the fans by the franchise.

At that point, there had been Star Trek on TV consistently for nearly 20 years and they didn't know when another one would happen, after all we're still Trek-less. I can understand why it pissed some folks off, but having two of the most beloved characters of the modern era in Star Trek come back to help round out the franchise was a nice gesture if you ask me. It wasn't done with any malice towards the cast of Enterprise, after all, they had a nice ending the weeks prior.

All in all, Enterprise ranks fairly low for me, but not because of the content of the show itself, for the fact that it only had a four year run and that the show had so much potential that could have been realized had the network gave a damn about the material they were putting out rather than numbers.

DS9
TNG
VOY
ENT
TOS
TAS

This list is not to say I don't like the lower ones. I loved TOS, but I liked the rest more. I recommend the Animated Series to anyone who has a few bucks to spare at Walmart... it was written by the same people who did TOS, almost all of the same voice actors, very well done and lets face it that good old fashioned 1970s animation is fun.

OH! Going back to Enterprise for one moment... the Theme Song did in fact suck big fat monkey balls.

*Queue whiney guitar track*

*Super whiney voice*

It's been a long road
Getting from there to here
It's been a long time
But my time is finally near

BLARRGH! Gene Roddenberry tossed in his grave over that disgrace.

I do agree that seasons 3 and 4 were much better, but still...meh. And they did have some GREAT casting. Scott Bakula was fantastic, Jeffery Combs as Shran was one of the most entertaining flip-floppy characters ever..seamlessly going from villain to friend. I loved how they brought in Quantum Leap alum Dean Stockwell as well...he was fantastic.

Still...MEH! Could have been a far better series. I liked the more naval feel (something I always felt Star Trek was kinda lacking) and I liked some of the "roughing it" portions where their UT didn't work or when they were afraid of the transporter...made the characters seem more human. I dont feel it was a fitting farewell to Trek..and I hope they give us another series to love...just not based on this JJ Abrams farce. PUHLEASE!

OK, easy now, it IS just a program, after all.

But, it does show something interesting. As with any of this type of material, age plays a role.

TOS was not that great, let's face it. The acting, the costumes, some of it was hard to get by. But, it IS the reason the Trek Universe exists.

The IDEA of it. That idea, as we have all mentioned, is the reason this has been such a success. If TOS were made now, with the fx budgets and capabilities we have, it would no doubt be better.

Listen to a vet, and remember, we are dealing with fiction. GOOD FICTION, no doubt, but, still.

anyway, that's my 2 cents.

TNG for me.

The first time I ever watched a Star Trek episode began with Jean Luc Picard's commanding voice filling the room.
"Space... The FINAL Frontier"
I fell in LOVE with the franchise, bought the action figures, the model space ships... many, many times did the enterprise team up with another little model spaceship and blow up a Borg cube in the privacy of my bedroom.

Plus, Deanna was HOT! especially when I was a kid. All of the characters: Riker, Data, Picard, LaForge, Troi, so many more captivated me.

The technology amazed me, the acting captivated me.
And seeing Captain Picard as a Borg blew my mind.

It's pretty obvious thats my #1.

Then came DS9. Maybe I was just too young, but it didn't hold my attention. I just continued to watch TNG reruns until one day...

Voyager aired and I was hooked. Beginning to end, all the way through. Grabbed me and held me there, attentive. Watching every week was something I truly looked forward to. So that would have to be my #2.

The original I've only seen a couple episodes of, and I cant help but swivel my head around and draw out my lines while watching it. Dont get me wrong, There would be no TNG or Voyager for me to fall in love with if not for TOS. But other than its historical significance, I don't know how I'd like it now that I'm older.

Since reading through memory Alpha, I have a renewed interest in DS9. I'm starting to think I had it all wrogn when I first watched it when it started airing. when I have the money I fully intend on making the first season of DS9 my first Trekkie purchase in about 15 years (since before my money was really MY money).

Sorry this is lengthy, I didnt mean to get carried away.

I have most of DS9 on DVD. If you're interested I could burn you a copy. In all fairness, DS9 doesn't hit its stride until midway through Season 2, but it's still fun if you ask me. Around then they were gearing up for Voyager so they introduced the Maquis during the second season of DS9 and the next to last episode of TNG (RO! HOW COULD YOU BETRAY US ALL!!!!!)

Personally, my favorite was Voyager. Perhaps it was because it was the first one is saw but it has always been the one that I would never get sick of. Not that I would pass up watching a Star Trek episode.

Next, is DS9 which was really good foolowed by TNG, TOS, ENT, then finally the animated series.

I'll place my vote with TNG for the time being as I'm currently watching DS9 for the first time now and have only gotten halfway through Season 2. I have also not seen the animated series, so I can't comment on that.
