Talbert looked around the table. "I think this is a good time to say well done, officers. V, thanks for the assist in Ops. I understand you took one for the team, as it were. How's the shoulder holding up?"

Lt. Taarak
Station - Conference room

Lt. Taarak lean in a little closer to Lt. VanQuax, the security officer he was teasing when the two were last on the bridge of the USS Guardian before was went to the station. He shielded his mouth and whispered in her direction. "How are you feeling, Lieutenant, better, I hope."

The Orion went back to focusing on the status of the debris surrounding the station, "We can use the shuttles aboard the Guardian and take advantage of their tractor beams and start moving some of the debris with those as well. Might speed up the clean-up a little bit. Could be a chance to get some more training in for some of our ensigns on flight operations."

Taarak looked around the room, it was a sleek design, just like the station herself. Sort-of cold feeling though with no pictures on the wall or plant-life around.

Having gotten a few solid hours of deep sleep, which allowed her body to heal the wound faster especially after the infection was treated, she sat quite alert at the table.

Smiling as the orion leaned in to ask her of her health status she just smirked and waited for the brief conference to complete itself.

looking around the room as the meeting dispels, she looks up at Talbert as her name is mentioned.

"aye Sir, that I did." she says with a chuckle. "It seems, according to the Doc, that the Tal'harton laced their blades with something, which of course reacted to my body chemistry and what I thought was a simple wound, turned for the worse." she looked at Taarak then. "But after some treatment, and a solid six hours sleep, I'm doing fine. Doc even cleared me for duty." She smiled then.

don't know what I would have done if I don't heal as fast as I do.... she thought to herself.

Talbert smiled back and then turned his attention to Lenara and Mehvra Kuplo.

"I want to congratulate you both, especially you Lieutenant, on getting the power core established and helping the Regent. With your coordination and Lenara's input we are currently operating at full power, with a handsome reserve. In addition, well, why don't you update us, Mehv?"

Marek watched the proceedings, taking in the information, and his crews condition. All seemed in good spirits, and rested for once. He acknowledged Taarak's suggestion,
"Make it so Lt., I would suggest using the runabout as well, it will likely be the only vessel besides the Guardian capable of moving the largest pieces of debris."

Dr. Malen cleared his throat, "I should like to point out that we had no permanent injuries, and the last of the crew members have returned to active duty."

Marek nods, glancing at Talbert as he speaks.

Lenara glances at Mehvra as she speaks, "If I may, Lt.," She turns to Talbert, "With the nebula being harvested once again, the station's reserves are now beyond minimum operating requirements. By the time reinforcements arrive we should have enough to power the reactor for several years. As for the Regent, I will let Mehvra explain his modifications to the current memory system. The construction of an Alterran body goes well, the Regent has chosen a human male form, and physical reconstruction is complete. I believe the neural network and quantum processing system will be operational within ten days."

Alterran Station - Conference Room
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo

Mehv listens intently to the reports from the department heads.

A couple of times he inhales to begin speaking, but his questions are either explained promptly or another responds instead. After Lenara's intro, he gives his report on the station memory core.

"The Regent's memory coherence has been slowly breaking down. The crystalline storage matrix has been infiltrated with rogue elements from the surrounding materials. After a certain number of years this leeching has started to affect the operation of the memory core.

While the core can be repaired, the memory will be wiped in the process. Therefore the regent's personality must be transferred. The Guardian doesn't have the necessary capability, so a new body is being created. Three Engineering teams have been working around the clock to ensure the Regent's safety in the station and get the new body ready. It is her/his wish to stay in the new body that is being created.

We have successfully increased the integrity of the station's memory core for the time being and have given ourselves some breathing room to ensure the transfer is done correctly. Both sides of this project have progressed well.

The station's computer core program can be cloned prior to the main memory repair and then replaced once the repair is complete. Once the regent has been transferred however, the core program should be able to continue to function normally for quite some time. The additional room and the fact that the core program is less sensitive to the degradation could mean a year or so before the program will fail.

The general station repairs are almost complete. It is remarkably self-sustaining and durable. Even without the android teams, she will take a beating and shrug it off. There are redundancies built in throughout the primary systems and the diagnostic routines provide very specific detail of what is going on. This has allowed our Engineering teams to correct any problems quickly and efficiently."

Commander Talbert nodded throughout Mehv's presentation and then turned to the captain.

"That's about it sir. With the Tal'harton gone for now and progress being made in the nebula, I think we are as ready as we're going to be. Have they decided on a patrol ship yet? If so, are they giving command of it to the fleet or intelligence side?"

Marek looked at Talbert, "A ship will be stationed here, I do not know anymore detail than that. I assume it will be under command of the station directly, and the fleet indirectly." Marek turned to the room as a whole, "If there are no more questions, you are dismissed. I suggest everyone take advantage of the remaining week to catch up on some recreational activities."

Nodding as the meeting seems to adjourn she takes a moment to sit as the room slowly begins to clear. Still feeling a bit of a lag in her normal energy levels, she wasn't in a rush to get back to work... which for her was abnormal.

for once Ayns, just take it easy and slow... she thought to herself as she seems to almost drift into her own world for a moment.

Lt. Taarak
Station
Conference room

Taarak nodded and rose to his feel as fellow officers in the room did as well to excuse themselves. He looked to his side where VanQuax was still seated and seemed to be drifting out into space herself. Taarak place a hand on her shoulder. "Are you doing OK, Lieutenant?" The Orion asked her.

The Orion knew what he was going to do, it was time to go back to the ship and start getting the training schedule ready for those pilots taking the shuttle craft and runabout out to clear the debris. He already knew which officers would be paired up toether and which ones he would ride with -- the ones that needed the most help in piloting small craft.

Before doing all that though, Taarak had planned to pay a visit to a holodeck and enjoy a mix drink at one of the bars programmed in and then hit the sack for a few hours of shut-eye. What's happening to me, Taarak, you're supposed to be the party boy on the ship, the one that likes to have fun all the time. Must be the old age, he thought to himself as he waited to make sure the security officer he was standing over was OK.

Roger made a bee-line for the gym aboard Guardian. It was almost two weeks since he had worked out, and he felt weak and out of shape. Enough was enough. Setting the computer to 275, he began his regimen, pushing himself along with the weights. It felt good and he knew the universe had balance again.

feeling a hand on her shoulder she fell from her thoughts and looked up at Taarak with a chuckle.

"Yes, I'm alright, just off in my own little world"

with a sigh she stood up and straightened her uniform.

"I can't say how long I may have sat there... perhaps I need some time for meditation of some sort. That injury took more out of me that it should have."

Nodding to Orion she walked past him with her head tilted down as if yet again lost in her own thoughts.

Lt. Taarak
Guardian

Taarak spread out on the couch in his quarters, it was a good meeting with the flight crew running the shuttles and runabous. Now it was time for some much needed rest. He looked up an over to his right towards the replicator. "Computer, how 'bout one small bowl of Orion wing-slugs and a glass of the Earth drink Whiskey Old Fashion Sour."

The computer materialized the food order as Taarak jumped to his feet to grab the bowl of the wing-slugs. It had been a while since he had treated himself to the Orion delicacy. He took a big bite and stalled for a second. "Not really the same, they need to be moving." He didn't stop for too long though, his stomach was overpowering him an he gave in to it.

As he continued with his meal, Taarak paged through a PADD left on his table. It's something he did every day as much as he could, reading his father's personal logs he found following his father's death several years ago. It gave him an inside look to what the man was like.

After finishing the delicious wing-slugs, Taarak set down his PADD and closed his eyes briefly. "Computer, is anyone in the holodeck?" The computer took an answer and chirped back. "Negative." The Orion stood, fixed his uniform. "I need to fight someone. Computer, set up program Taarak 212 and reserve the holodeck for me for two hours."

Taarak left his room, leaving the PADD on the table with his father's personal log stuck on the screen still, flashing the words. "It was a mistake I brought my son with me to Earth...."

Marek sat at a table in the newly organized officers mess. It had been set in a large cargo area, that happened to have large windows facing the nebula. The result was a spectacular view of the natural phenomenon. It was a swirling pallet of reds, yellows, and oranges interspersed with streaks of blue and green. Even a Vulcan found it hard to not appreciate the beauty and tranquility of the view. Occasionally one could make out a shuttle or the Guardian's lone runabout drift by, a piece of debris caught in a cerulean blue tractor beam. Marek was treating himself to an Earth style salad, even splurging on some replicated hard boiled eggs. Eggs were the closest to meat he ever ate, and then only rarely, but he felt that all that had been accomplished in the last week was worth a little celebrating. He savored a bite, enjoying the slight tang of the vinaigrette dressing. A PADD sat at the side of his bowl, but he ignored it for now, savoring the moment of peace. He had already studied the message multiple times, but found himself turning to it again and again. It was the latest report from Admiral Croft, and it had enough news to trouble Marek for several nights now. Although several items had caused him to feel concern, the item that troubled him most should have been good news. Marek found himself considering his First Officer yet again. Talbert was quite average for a human, he tended to get angry when his subordinates did not meet his high standards. But Talbert was also an excellent officer, he seemed to instinctively know what an officer needed to overcome their shortcomings, and was able to deliver it without condescension. Marek found himself pushing his salad around the bowl, lost in his thoughts. If he was being honest with himself, and as a Vulcan that was usually the case, his true unease was explained by one undeniable fact. Marek considered Talbert more than just a fellow officer and colleague, he considered him a friend. Marek understood that their friendship would not end with Talbert's new assignment, but he still grieved the new distance that would be between them. He pushed the bowl away, leaning back in his chair in a decidedly un-Vulcan like fashion, staring out the view port. How long can I expect to keep this from him, I wonder?

Lenara sat at a console in the room housing the main computer core. She was accessing the station's database, the data scrolling past the screen faster than any human could read. Suddenly, her hand shot out, stopping the scrolling, she quickly backed the screen up. A look of amazement crossed her face. She hesitated for a moment, rereading the words, before speaking aloud.
"Regent, please respond." A flicker of light, and the holographic image of the Regent appeared. Lenara was a little surprised to note that the Regent's appearance had changed. It now appeared as a human male, dark haired and dusky complexion.
"Yes, Lenara, what may I do for you?" The voice was much deeper, strange to Lenara's ears. Her previous question was momentarily forgotten.
"You changed your form?"
"Yes, this is closer to what my physical form will be, I felt I should prepare myself for what will be my permanent form. Does this make for a suitable human?" Lenara hesitated for a moment, then smiled.
"More than suitable." She paused for a moment, "I have a question for you, I assume you were monitoring my data access?" The Regent's face was expressionless, and for a moment appeared to have not heard the question.
"Yes, I was." Lenara chose her next words carefully."
"I was looking for a particular piece of information. I am sure that my memory contains this information, but apparently it requires certain conditions to be accessible." She glanced at the screen, then continued. "I can begin rebuilding our species, if this data is correct." The Regent turned away from Lenara, looking at the equipment surrounding his new body.
"When you have matured, yes. It is a somewhat dangerous process for one that is not prepared. Even duplicating oneself, which is also possible, is dangerous for one so young as you. It is likely that the data will be available to you once you have matured." Lenara found a new sensation building inside her, it took a moment to identify it. She fought to control her voice as she spoke.
"I am as mature as any other of my fellow crew members, physical age put aside." The Regent smiled sadly,
"The ability to act mature is in your programming, but you do not have the necessary experience. Even now you fight with a new experience that you have never had before. Once you have proven yourself, you will know what to do." The Regent turned and walked up to her, an unreadable look on his face, "I realize that you feel like I have been hiding things from you, even lying, but it was for your own good. I had hoped that you would not long for that which you could not have. Now you must be patient, the time will come when together we can begin rebuilding our race. Now I must get back to work, there is much to be done before I retire from this form." The holographic image faded, leaving Lenara alone. She stared at the space the image had occupied moments before, her mind racing. Suddenly she stood, her mind made up. She strode from her room, now wanting to access a different computer. There is more than one way to skin a feline
