The new lieutenant understood the lingering glance. There was no doubt that Commander Qech shared his feelings for the snake-like creatures, probably moreso than even he did, but those comments were not condusive to bridge-life, nor command. He looked at the screens on his console, and focused on his job, determined to crush the feelings he had allowed to drift to the surface. _________________

ACTION
The Hartington jumped to warp speed, into the Julant Expanse and on their way towards the source of the mysterious transmission. Over the course of the next eight days, the science crew picked up several more transmissions including audio dramas, sports broadcasts, planetary and interstellar weather reports and private communications -- all traveling at hyperlight speeds.
Six days out from the planet, the Hartington detected a vessel moving at sublight towards the destination. Traveling along side under cloak, they attempted to gain any insight that they could, however the ship's best scans were deflected by a sophisticated dampening field blocking all efforts to penetrate the hull. On day nine, Lieutenant Solana monitored the scans of the vessel and local area alongside Lieutenant Drake at one of the auxiliary science stations.
"Captain, I believe the dampening field is beginning to loose power. I am receiving telemetry from inside the alien craft. Life support is functioning, but I am not reading any life signs on board."
The Captain strode towards the aft station to view the data himself. He scratched at his beard as he read over what information they had received.
"Hmm... Look at those hull markings, Standard English. It's worth a look. Commander Qech, I'd like you to take an away team over to the derelict. Shut it down so we can get a closer look at it. If it's from the same planet as the transmission we may be able to do First Contact right by returning their lost ship." _________________

Qech nodded. "Aye Sir. But I'm going to need to kidnap the helmsman" she said, nodding at Croft. "If it's still traveling at impulse we're going to need someone to get it under control. Someone who can improvise if needed. Lt. Calodan, I'd like you to come along too." She looked to the second officer and then looked to PO Koester. "Mr. Koester, assemble a security team please."
((OOC: I'm having Qech speak to Koester because Uvek has said he will be absent for a couple days. Just wanted to clear up any confusion.)) _________________

"Lt. Calodan, I'd like you to come along too."
"Yes sir." Calodan conceded his chair to his replacement from Beta shift, a young blonde lieutenant he should really spend some time getting to know, and headed to the turbolift with Croft and Qech.
He already ahd a few ideas about this ancient-Earth style ship. He had spent the past 9 days combining any sensor information they could get through the dampening field with data from the Starfleet database. This ship closely resembled Daedalus class ships from the late 2100s but seemed to have an energy profile almost 10 times what a ship of that class should have. _________________

OOC sorry folks had a wild weekend, but I did earn some spare change from some of the computer repairs I did.
Croft accompanied Qech and Calodan to the turbolift. As the door closed and the lift whisked them away to their destination, Croft glanced at his companions, a small smile on his face. Never before seen controls, derelict space craft, bizarre unexplained Earth connection, this should be a little more than just interesting _________________

USS Hartington
Bridge - science station
Lieutenant Drake continued to study the readings coming over on the vessel the Hartington was scouting, continuing to monitor its life support systems and trying to pick out any new information on it as the away team prepared to beam over.
He glanced at the Vulcan science officer next to him. He hadn't worked with Solana very often, but found her intriguing, she stayed focused on her duties, seemingly not noticing Drake glancing at her on occasion.
"Still no life signs, Lieutenant?" Drake asked. "I wonder where that ship has been and what stories she is going to tell us." _________________

OOC: Sorry for the delay, was hoping that the last member of the away team would reply before I sent you guys down, but he hasn't. We're going to retcon Qech's order for Mr. Koester to lead the team and have Lieutenant zh'Rel lead the security team... maybe she'll change to Security if the turnout is good! Mr. Koester can still be a part of the away mission if he so chooses.
ACTION
Commander Qech, Lieutenants Calodan, Croft and zh'Rel and her security team meet up in the Transporter Room. The young Andorian seems anxious at leading the security team into the field for the first time, though since switching to Security had done wonders for the woman's confidence, this was a small trade. With the team assembled on the pad, their mission began. Their forms vanished and moments later reappeared in the darkness of the alien vessel.
Lieutenant zh'Rel's tricorder hummed as she scanned the local area, phaser up at the ready. The air inside the vessel was dry, cold and thin, rank with the scent of spoiled food and humanoid waste.
"I'm not detecting any life signs, Commander... we're alone."
Location: USS Hartington Bridge
"Still no life signs, Lieutenant? I wonder where that ship has been and what stories she is going to tell us."
Lieutenant Solana cocked a brow and looked up from her station, towards her department's lead officer.
"No, there are no life signs, sir. I have deduced that this vessel has much in common with late 21st century Terran construction, with enough appropriate changes the intervening several centuries would have developed. That in and of itself should tell us something, though I do not believe that you will hear the narratives you are hoping for." _________________

"I'm not detecting any life signs, Commander... we're alone."
Qech quickly scanned the room, confirming the Ensign's findings and nodded. "I don't much care for the smell though. Something went wrong here..." She shook her head, shaking off the last few shakes from the transporter trip, then turned to face the others.
"Right. We're going to split into pairs. Ensign Tay" she said, addressing one of the security officers, "you're with Lieutenant Croft. Get to the bridge and see if you can get this ship under control, Lieutenant." She then turned to the second Officer. "Lieutenant Calodan, I'd like you and crewman Beck to scout through the ship logs. See what you can turn up. Ensign Zh'rel And I will scan the decks."
She looked briefly down at her tricorder and back up to the crew. "If there are no questions, then let's get this mystery solved. Best of luck." _________________

Calodan nodded at Beck. She was a good pairing, her engineering skills would help out.
"Yes Commander. Our best place to try and access the main computer is from main engineering, so Beck and I will head there."
After a quick motion to Beck, Calodan headed aft towards where Engineering was located on the old Daedalus class ships. "This should be an adventure Beck, this ship very closely resembles a Daedalus class. If the computer is anything like those old beasts, accessing the logs without access codes should be pretty easy for out 24th century technology." He hoped he wasn't jinxing the away team with his words and thoughts, but this mission looked to be a simple one. _________________

Croft nodded to Qech, glanced at Tay, then began heading forward, hoping his recollections of the Daedalus class were correct. Won't look to good to get lost on this heap he wrinkled his nose at a particularly strong smell, sweeping his tricorder in front of him. _________________

(Hi everyone...home again! missed you all. Glad to see we are underway).........
Uvek watched the security scans with passion. He was anxious to see how Zh'rel would handle command, and satisfied that so far, things seemed to be shaping up nicely. He looked to the captain.
"Security and operational sweeps underway, captain. I have instructed the transporter room to maintain a lock on the teams, and await the first reports from zh'rel and her squad." _________________

USS Hartington
Bridge - Science station
Lieutenant Drake nodded in approval of Solona's report.
"Good work, Lieutenant," Drake said. "Keep us updated if you catch anything weird on the scanners."
Drake then turned towards the rest of the bridge and glanced a look out the viewscreen showing the Daedalus class vessel hovering there.
"Nothing new to report from science, Captain," Drake said. "We'll keep looking though."
Drake turned back to his science station and began working again, collecting readings from anything and everything around the vessel. _________________

(Sorry I've been busy of late. Army business and all)
Koester took his position behind the away team. He scanned through the bulkheads with the exographic targeting sensor of his TR-116.
"No signs of anything lurking onboard." Koester reported. He was especially vigilant because he remembered Jem'Hadar troops often waiting onboard derelict Starfleet vessels waiting to attack recovery crews: "I'll keep up my scans." |

Smith walked the hallways of the Hartington in a guarded and alert manner. Like the rest of the Security Forces on board Hartington, he was carrying his hand phaser. It was a decision unanimously made by the Captain and Lt. Uvek in order to protect the ship as best as possible from unexpected alien attacks. _________________
