Stardate 54216.9

Crewmen present:

Lt. Commander Osaka
Lt. Zeara
Lt. Solana
Lt. Grolik
Ensign Rayle
CPO Smith
Mrs. Smith

*ACTION*

The handshakes and pins and medals and promotions were given. The staff now knew where they belonged, it was only a matter of getting to know who each them were as individuals. As the Ops center emptied out and support teams moved back to their duty stations, relieving those who held watch, the department heads took a moment to take stock.

According to Commdander Talbert, who met with Lt. Zeara in a brief moment of introduction following the formal ceremony, the station was expecting a delegation of Ju'Tau from a planetoid not far from them in two days. Word had spread far and fast as the station had prepared for service over the past two weeks and already delegations of Karemma and Dosi had arrived. So much for secrets! In fact it seemed only the Alpha Quadrant had been unaware of the developments near the nebula.

But, for a few moments at least, the officers had the place to themselves and this seemed as good a time as any to get acquainted.

OPS CENTER
Lt. Skyna

The doctor wasn't interested in meeting anyone. He was jonesing and he needed a break. Sweat beads popped out on his forehead as he resisted the urges, but in the end he knew the beast would win. He moved through the small group with a grunted "excuse me" and headed off to find his quarters. Whether or not he meant to kick this habit was not the issue at the moment, he needed a fix. Some doctor, he thought to himself. Yes, there were plenty of materials in the database that would inhibit morphine addiction, or any other type of narcotic for that matter, but chemicals weren't the issue. The doctor just didn't have the want to....yet.

In a flash he was gone, leaving his teammates to stare after him.

Rayle being the outgoing person she was, stepped right up to Lt. Zeara. "Hello," she beamed, "Ensign Lillian Rayle here, Ma'am. I'm proud to meet you. This is my first time in the Gamma Quadrant. In fact, it's the first time anywhere except the Babel conference centers. It sounds like this is going to be a busy place, yes? I hope I'm up to it."

She cocked her head, "Which ship did you serve on, ma'am? I saw you with the Hartington group, was that it? Do you think you will like station life?"

For a moment Lillian felt she could rattle on, but realizing she was being a bit forward, she paused to let the senior officer respond.

Osaka glanced at the assembled officers, the sudden realization that he would be ordering these officers into potentially dangerous situations suddenly humbling his buoyant mood. He turns to the new Chief of Security, smiling.

"Well, Chief, you think you can keep this place under control?"

"Absolutely Commander." Smith replied. "I've led troops before sir. This will just require a little more planning." That was an understeatement. Just before he left his quarters, he was telling Charolette how he worried he would turn into a micromanager. Not gonna happen thought Smith.

"Commander Osaka, I hate to chat and run sir, but I need to get my office in order. Excuse me sir." and with that, newly promoted CPO Smith was on his way to his office. Damn that sounds nice...

Lt. Grolik
Deep Space 27

The Denobulan chief engineer of Deep Space 27 walked slowly around the engine core, inspecting every inch of it and then made his way to the next level up to continue inspecting it. "Nice piece of machinery, wow. This is tons better than any other station I've visited."

Lt. Grolik tapped a console to his right and began reading some of the information on the new station he was serving about. He had read about it the entire trip here, but now it was time to get to know her on a more personal level.

Ando watched as the crew began to disperse, and decided to head for Ops. He left the room, only having a short stroll down the hall to reach the operations center. As the doors cycled open, he stepped into what was going to become a very familiar place to him. He nodded to the officer of the watch, motioning him to continue, as he strolled around operations. They were already tracking inbound starships, although most were still days out. The Myosians, and others, where excited at the prospect of a trading outpost in this region of space. He stopped at an empty console, bringing up a smaller version of the MSD on the wall next to him. The interface had been modified and translated to make it easy to access for any Starfleet officer, but it was still a unique visual and tactile experience. Ando thought he would recommend some of the differences to the designers at Utopia Planatia for the next generation of starships, as the changes had shown an increase in response times and data accuracy. He turned back to the center of the room, watching the officers, his officers, work. I never thought command would be so rewarding, and this is only the first day

Talbert stormed into Ops, a black mood surrounding him like a cloud and reflecting on his face. His hand gripped the PADD Admiral Croft had given him so tightly that it threatened to crack it. He boomed out, quite unintentionally,

"Commander Osaka, on me!", and immediately regretted it.

As his new XO entered his office, he sat heavily in his chair and motioned for Osaka to do the same. "I"m sorry, Ando," he said in an uncharacteristic use of the man's first name. He passed the PADD over. "This is a list of materials and orders from Admiral Croft. You need to see to the shipyards over the next few weeks. I want you to work closely with Ensign Lenara and the Regent to accommodate this request."

He rubbed his face. "I don't like this." He said sourly. "Something isn't sitting right here, and Croft is shoving this down my throat. I warned Captain Marek that something like this might happen, and I know there's more to it than than what we're being told." He flung a finger in the direction of the PADD. "Croft's up to something, I can feel it."

Zeara smiled at the Ensign as she prattled on in a rather hurried pace she waited until the woman found a point to stop.

"Ensign Rayle, I am pleased to meet you. I hear we are to be working together."

A brief look of sadness swept over her face as if that thought saddened her somehow... the thought of leaving the ship she'd begun to call home. But it was gone almost as fast as it arrived with the memory of the many 'ghosts' that would remain on board as she departed to make a new location her home.

"yes, i served on the Hartington. Good ship with a fine crew. I will miss a few of them, but I am greatly looking forward to life on solid ground again. I will admit that serving here shall prove a little more... exciting... of a post than I am used to."

she smiled at the comment about "being exciting". She knew that station life was usually boring, but there were moments like with her mom, when things got really busy.

"I'm sure we will do well. If you excuse me, I'm going to go find my quarters, I've got to unpack."

she moved to the door and started looking for a wall unit to tell her where she was.

*ACTION*

STARDATE: 54218.1

Chief Petty Officer Smith and two of his security staff are in pressure suits. They are outside the station, using a workpod and atmosphere suits to personally inspect the station. For 2 days now, he has meticulously combed the skin of their home to ensure no other alien devices appear. He will remain there until his air runs out, if he has to, but despite the grumblings of his men, this was something he meant to accomplish.

Lt. Zeara gets the order to report to Docking Station 4. The Ju'Tau and Myosian mixed delegation has arrived. The myosians are as those found on Panthenal IV, with their browlines and technological know-how. However, the Ju'Tau are not. They are hulking creatures with wrinkled skins and long, snout-like noses. Their eyes shine at the end of thick bulbous protrusions on either side of their heads, and swivel to look in all directions, like a chameleon on earth. They have thick hands and ponderous steps. But for all their girth, they are quick witted and intelligent. In their midst, carried with great reverence, is a large ornate box.

They approach the Betazoid officer and bow ceremoniously. One steps forward and says "I am Kkuzzu, Arbiter of the Ju'Tau. We humbly greet thee, and present ourselves for trade with the Federation of Planets. We look to greet your leaders and share a piece of our fortune with thee."

Standing at an eased attention in the docking station she waits as the visitors begin to file out of the craft.

Having seen the Myosians on a prior occasion she nods politely to each in turn not having a favoritism for their race. Not realizing she'd been holding a breath as the Ju'Tau depart the ship, she can't help but feel a sense of awe at their appearance. Interesting species. she thinks to herself as she watches them as they bow with an elegance that seemed beyond their physique.

I am Kkuzzu, Arbiter of the Ju'Tau. We humbly greet thee, and present ourselves for trade with the Federation of Planets. We look to greet your leaders and share a piece of our fortune with thee

Opening her mind to their energies she bowed as the feelings flowed over her body. They were anxious to get the trade negotiations started and fearful of the mass commotion that surrounded the station. All such things were normal, but as she stood up from her returned bow she could pick up on a flash of something else... something deep within themselves. Unable to verify it, she continued the niceties.

"We welcome you to our humble station Kkuzzu. I am Lieutenant Zeara, Chief Diplomatic Officer and liaison to our Command. If you will join me in a short walk, I shall lead the way to your meeting with them." her tone even and sweet, she had to admit that she enjoyed their presence.

she looked back to the commander. "Zeara is enroute, sir. The Ju'Tau are with her. Also, both the hartington and guardian report that they are enroute to Frieka."

Watching the Commander for a nod, she then turned back, wondering what was going to happen to the Frieka scientists.

Smith, Bishop and T'Plar were walking back into the airlock, their assignment now complete.

"Chief," said T'Plar, "I do not see how it is logical to scan the outer skin of the station as we have. Are we expecting problems?"

"No, T'Plar, and that's the way I want to keep it. Nobody ever got hurt being proactive."

"Aye aye Chief. I appologize for my speaking out of turn."

"No problem T'Plar. It happens."

Smith turned to Bishop. "Grant, can you advise Ops that we're finished? I'm going to hit my office quickly, then off to my quarters."

"Aye aye, Chief." Then continuing he said "You going to be back this shift, Ted?"

"I'm working a split on this. Need to head home and see my wife, catch a nap, then I'll be back."

OOC sorry guys little behind

Ando accepts the PADD from Talbert, trying not to smile, knowing it would be misinterpreted.

"Yes sir, I figured something along these lines when I was assigned, having spent most my career at Planatia Utopia." He glanced at the PADD briefly,
"I don't foresee a problem with the shipyard, but a whole new starship design, even in a rush redesign we are looking at months of work. I hope the Admiral doesn't have ridiculous expectations." Ando thought for a moment, then spoke, "If I may be frank sir, your gut may be correct. I did not get anything specific, but several of my CO's expressed remorse that I had been moved under Admiral Croft's command, even at a mid-level."
