Dorvun nodded as members of his team moved through the viewing area. There was evidence of the physical shaking they had suffered through everywhere and equipment beeped and whirred behind him.
"Thank you Captain Brennon!" he replied. "The station you mentioned is indeed the Dorvun Magnetostatic Dynamo. It is actually a giant magnetic field generator placed in geo-synchronys orbit more than 100 years ago by my father, Pallus Dorvun and his team. I have little time to spare, but essentially, a vast magnetic pole shift was predicted some 1000 years ago. Over the course of 500 years the sciences of our planet worked to reverse the worst of our involvement with pollutants, as we were convinced that Frieka herself was punishing us for our wayward ways. To summarize, we forsook space travel for environmental studies and developed a series of magnetic plates, placed in geographic lines along the planet's magnetic axis. These plates are used to enhance the Dynamo's effects and align the planet's magnetic field.
"The Dynamo is maintained by a team of scientists, which we are prepared to replace every 200 years, or as necessary. Four days ago a fleet entered our system and approached the station. They called themselves the Fleet of the Mandrake, though we never truly saw them, and they claimed to have been studying us for some time.
They had a massive starship unlike any I have seen and several support vessels. They literally linked the Dynamo to the Mandrake and took it away! The effects were instantaneous and unless we return it to the proper orbit, the plates under our crust will shift further and irreparable harm will destroy the planet." _________________

Aria could sense great surges of fear rising from the planet. Dorvun himself was dripping with it, though he covered his anxiety with a strong practicality. The Friekians were almost at the breaking point, panic and chaos was imminent unless something could be done.
Not that much could be done, except to try and give the people hope. Aria sat forward and spoke to Dorvun, keeping her voice steady and calm.
"We'll do everything we can to help your situation, Doctor Dorvun. The Federation will always come to the aid of those in need. In the meantime, you should see to your people. Make an announcement to them, and do what you can to calm them."
She glanced at the Captain. His frustration with the lack of situational knowledge was palpable.
"But first, what can you tell us about the Fleet of the Mandrake. Have you run into them before? What are they after?" _________________

Croft's fingers flew across the console, sending the ship into a much higher orbit. The ship shudders as it skirts another large eddie before clearing the turbulence and settling into smoother skies. _________________

As the Captain and Aria asked their questions, Qech rose from her seat and made her way to the Science Station. She kept her voice low so as not to disturb the interactions taking place at the view screen.
"Lieutenant Drake. Those warpfield eddies you discovered earlier... Can you isolate them on the scanners?" _________________

Dorvun nodded in agreement to the Lieutenant's suggestions.
"A planet-wide announcement is being prepared and emergency controls are in place. However, our society understands the gravity of this situation, we have lived with it all our lives. With regard to the fleet. It was odd. We only got information from our satellite grid, most of which is aimed at the planet itself.
However, we were able to determine that no two ships were alike. The Mandrake itself was massive, at least Length : 2,772 meters, and a Diameter of 607 meters. We calculate the mass of the hull estimated to be in excess of 427,000,000,000 metric tons! The Dorvun Magnetostatic Dynamo is 3 kilometers in diameter, with a station 120 meters square in its center.
The other ships appeared to vary in size and shape. Frankly, we have only seen one before. It was a vessel of the Dominion, are you familiar with them? A battle ship, but one that suffered extreme damage and repair."
Dorvun paused, hitting some switches.
"They appear to have traveled to the interior of the system and I cannot imagine what they intend. But, this is critical...YOU MUST RETURN THE DYNAMO INTACT! Recalibration will take months and rebuilding it in time is impossible!" _________________

Lt. Cory Drake
USS Hartington
Bridge
Drake, in the middle of rubbing the scruff on his face as if he were deep in thought, looked up at the commander. "I believe so, ma'am. I've been digging through the data since we left the captain's office." Drake pointed to the monitor at his station. "I've been able to determine that there are about eight separate signatures leaving the planet and heading back toward uncharted space. However, ma'am, there may be more than eight, it's impossible to verify."
Drake paused to tap on the console as more more data began to come in from the enhanced sensors and from data he was receiving from the Archer and the Guardian as well.
"That's odd." Drake looked puzzled then looked back to the Commander. "Ma'am, there are three very distinct warp signatures that would leave eddies like these ... Jem-hadar, Breen and ... Federation."
Could it be a Federation secret mission? Maybe the Maquis? Nah, it couldn't be. No Federation ship could be a part of this. Drake thought to himself, then snapped out of his thoughts as his console sprang to life again.
"Just received sensor data fromt the Archer. There is also date that matches some known Klignon discharges, Commander," Drake said, pointing again to the monitor where number were rolling in. "The largest eddies and field displays are still unknown. We're searching through all of our computer banks to see if they match anything. I'll let you know if we find anything." _________________

Qech listened to Drake's report, her expression neutral, but her questions numerous. None of this made any sense, at least not if you take into account the alliances they all thought they had.
"Thank you, Lieutenant. Report if you discover anything."
She made her way over to the Captain and, in an effort not to rudely interrupt the conference with the First Citizen, leaned down near his ear.
"Sir, Lieutenant Drake has some information from sensors you will want to hear. And from what I've heard, it seems we may be in very hot water if all this comes to blows. We need to be very ready for a diplomatic solution, Sir."
Qech repeated what Drake had just told her and then took her seat at the Captain's right. He was still looking at her, wearing an expression very similar to what she had been thinking when hearing Drake's report. "I know, Sir. None of this makes any sense." _________________

After watching and listening to every work the frantic scientist said in his message, Captain Brennon began his reply. His voice was full of commanding confidence as he spoke and his voice visibly calming Dorvun.
"You have my word Doctor, the Hartington and our companions will do whatever we can to return your wayward space station. We will update you as we learn more. Hartington out."
The Captain turned to Lieutenants Uvek and Drake, quickly issuing his orders as he moved towards his ready room.
"Lieutenants, locate those ships, I want a full sensor sweep of the system. If they're still in system I want to know about it. Qech, Lioy in my ready room." _________________

"Yes, sir."
Aria stood up, casting a glance over at Qech as she did so. "Bizarre situation, isn't it?" _________________

"Bizarre situation, isn't it?"
Qech glanced over to Lioy as she stood, a little more slowly than the others. "Bizarre, I can handle. But all of this doesn't add up... Ships as large as Borg ships, that was odd enough. But with familiar Dominion and Federation warp signatures?" She shook her head. "I just wish we knew more."
She followed the Captain into his ready room, and stood at attention next to Lt. Lioy. The room fell into silence while the two women waited for him to address the reason why they were there. _________________

The Captain turned to face the two Officers, not even bothering to sit at his desk. His eyes moved between the two of the, his voice calm and cool, not betraying his hand.
"Find Rolen, get him to tell you what he knows. If there are Dominion ships out this far harassing these people we need to know about it. Don't let him play around with you."
His eyes fix on Qech for a moment as he completes his order, his meaning very clear.
Get what we need. _________________

"Find Rolen, get him to tell you what he knows. If there are Dominion ships out this far harassing these people we need to know about it. Don't let him play around with you."
Qech nodded, understanding what the Captain meant. Rolen was not someone you could use too soft a hand with. Like most Vorta, he was far too skilled a manipulator, and could use your own subtlety as a weapon. After the incident with the Tal'Harton, she had gained something of a respect for him, and hoped that he would return that respect. She'd soon find out.
"Yes Sir" she said simply.
The Commander then looked to Lt. Lioy. "I'll fill you in on the way" she said, referring to the fact that the Betazoid was new, and probably had no idea who the Captain was talking about.
Upon leaving the ready room, Qech addressed the computer:
"Computer. Locate ambassador Rolen." _________________

Uvek moved to Drake's station. He leaned over and read the data the lieutenant was reviewing.
"I understand the confusion with these data streams. However, let us take this in perspective. We have twelve days to assist these people before their planet's magnetic field shifts beyond repair."
He taps his commbadge and called out to Captain Brennon.
"Captain, I recommend using the Archer's sensor array as point on this situation." He tapped a command into the console and brought the Hannibal class onscreen. "The Archer should be able to follow the warp trail without being easily detected. While we have a cloaking device, at least two of the races indicated can detect our cloak, and it remains a less effective option. Once the Archer has detected the vessels we can move into position." _________________

Ambassador Rolen is in the Team Room.
Qech made her way to the turbolift, Lieutenant Lioy at her heels.
"Deck 8."
As the turbolift hummed to life, she turned to the Betazoid. "Rolen is an ambassador for the Dominion. He came aboard the ship early on in the voyage. Unfortunately, he's Vorta, so..."
She noted the look of comprehension on Lioy's face.
"It would have made things a lot quicker. Well, at any rate, you'll have to key in on physical giveaways. However, he's been trustworthy so far, as much as a Vorta can be, and it is possible he doesn't know anything."
She stepped out of the turbolift and walked briskly toward the doors to the Team Room. When she opened them, she saw Rolen sitting at one of the tables, nursing a drink that he apparently didn't like but was sipping at anyway. Probably sampling the replicator menu she thought. He smiled when he saw her.
"Careful with him" she murmured to Lioy. "He's a diplomat too." _________________
