Aria looked around the holodeck, which was fashioned like a 1950's dance hall. Cheerful music played in the background. She'd done her best to let people know where and when this would take place. Now she'd just have to see if anyone turned up.

She nibbled on a cookie as she waited.

Calodan paused at the door to the holodeck to check the chrono before entering. He was right on time.

He had taken the time to replicate some clothes for the occasion. Lt. Lioy had mentioned she was theming the party around 1950s earth culture so he had scoured the databases for appropriate garb. He had come up with a well tailored gray suit, a very skinny neck tie that had given him fits trying to get tied, and a matching fedora. He felt a bit like a fool and had gotten a few looks walking the halls of the ship dressed in the getup, but it was fun. He imagined that some of his father's distant ancestors had dressed like this and it made him smile. What would they think now? One of their great-great-great-grandsomethings on a ship 30,000 some odd lightyears from their home..and half-Trill at that.

He hit the console to open the doors to the holodeck and entered to the sound of music and people dancing. He saw Lt. Lioy in a corner and walked over. "Hello Lieutenant. Nice job on the decorations."

Qech was pleased to see she was right on time to the party. But in her haste to finish up a last bit of work she had completely forgotten about the 1950's earth theme. As the holodeck doors opened, the sound of Nat "King" Cole rushed out into the hall. Upon crossing the threshold, the computer automatically fitted the Trill in a powder blue, strapless 1950's vintage dress complete with a paper-nylon petticoat and heels... only it didn't account for one thing:

"Computer-" Davynn coughed, her voice a bit strained "something a bit more maternal, please?" She relaxed as the cut of the dress changed, the fabric now gathered around the ribs instead of the waist. With a sigh of relief, she headed over to where she could see Calodan and Aria waving her over. She sighed as she approached them. "That's the second time it's done that to me. I'm going to speak to Lieutenant Ghan about that in the morning."

Her attention then turned to Lieutenant Lioy, and she gave the woman a bright smile. "I see you followed my advice about the cake. Good thing, because I emphasized that when I told the Captain."

Uvek moved through the door and was shocked and completely embarrassed by the computer's choice of a black t-shirt, rolled jeans and flat soled, laced footwear with something called "converse" on the ankles. His hair had been slathered with a greasy concoction and, when he ran his hands through it, molded into a wave pattern he barely recognized and hardly wanted. He moved through the crowd blushing a deep green until he found the source of the music...a large box-like device with spinning black discs that was so loud his vulcan ears rang. Frowning he noticed Calodan and Qech laughing beside the new lieutenant.

Trying his best not to be a "party pooper" as he had heard the term before, he moved to the small group and nodded. "Lieutenant." He said. But that was all he could manage.

"Mr Uvek, I must say that the computer chose a great look for you. My research shows you're a dressed as a 'greaser'. Kind of a counter-culture group that devoted a lot of time to fast combustion powered cars and rock and roll music."

He smiled widely at the blush of the Romulan officer. If a half-Trill dressed in a business man's suit from 1950's earth was out of place, a Romulan Greaser was an anachronism worth definite note. "If you'd like, we can adjust the computer to change your dress a bit."

"That's the second time it's done that to me. I'm going to speak to Lieutenant Ghan about that in the morning."

"Oh but Commander that is half the fun. You looked great on Casino night and look fantastic now. I kind of went all out...I'm wearing replicated."

Croft had did his homework, and had replicated some attire and styled his hair accordingly. So when he entered the holodeck to see he matched Uvek almost exactly, except he had on a white shirt instead of black, he couldn't help but laugh. He walked over to the tall Romulan, throwing a scarred arm over his shoulder.
"Hey Uvek, we look like we are in a 'gang' or something."

Calodan laughed at the two and the deepening blush on the Romulan officer's face. Uvek had definitely become more social since coming on board, but this party would be a fantastic test of his patience. "You look fantastic Mr. Croft. Any bets on whether the Captain comes dressed for the occasion or lets the holodeck style for him? I think he'd look fantastic in a powder blue number like Commander Qech." After making his joke, he made a big play of looking around to make sure the Captain wasn't around to hear. He knew the purpose of this party was to blow off some steam. With all they had been through together, friendships were starting to splinter a little under the strain. Everyone needed some time to crack some jokes and enjoy themselves and this party of Lt. Lioy's was the perfect opportunity. Speaking of...

"So Lt. Lioy, are you settling in on the Hartington? She's a bit of an old lady, but we've worked hard to keep her up to date with current specs. I know when I came aboard after spending time on some of the newer ships I was a bit thrown."

"Oh but Commander that is half the fun. You looked great on Casino night and look fantastic now. I kind of went all out...I'm wearing replicated."

Qech shook her head. "Oh, the clothes don't bother me. A little make-believe never hurt anyone. I was talking about the glove-fit it put me in when I walked in. The computer keeps going by my old measurements. You know, when I was thin? And I..." she stopped short when she saw Uvek approach, followed shortly by a matching Croft. It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime (or even several) occasion... And opportunity.

"Computer. A Picture for posterity." She grinned, almost wickedly, when the computer replied:

"Image database upgraded."

"Sorry Uvek, but... How could I resist?" He didn't look pleased, but Davynn couldn't keep from laughing.

"Any bets on whether the Captain comes dressed for the occasion or lets the holodeck style for him? I think he'd look fantastic in a powder blue number like Commander Qech."

Qech shook her head. "You and your bets. I suppose you're going to get our new Counselor involved in your other pool while you're here?" She said with a sarcastic smile. In truth, she'd be surprised if he didn't at least attempt it. "And as far as the Captain goes... Well, let's just say if he showed up in a dress he'd face the same fate as Mr. Uvek over here: Immortalized on the ship's database."

As the Romulan's scowl deepened, the Commander's smile broadened.

The security officer looked down at his garb then back up to Calodan with a smile on his face. "It is not what I would have selected for myself, of course, but it does have a certain counter-culture look, does it not? Given my background, I suspect that is something of an irony."

"Hey Uvek, we look like we are in a 'gang' or something."

Uvek cringed at the contact. Not as meaning a personal dislike for Lt. Croft, but an overall Romulan reaction..he hated to be touched. Despite his best efforts he was feeling thoroughly uncomfortable. He looked at Calodan and then at the table spread with many delicacies, searching for something; anything, to take the edge off. He was about to say something to that effect when....

"Computer. A Picture for posterity."
"Image database upgraded."
"Sorry Uvek, but... How could I resist?"

"With less than strenuous effort, I am sure commander. I will want that image deleted of course." he replied, but he was only half-serious. His sense of humor had not been fully developed and perhaps even hampered by the mind-meld with T'Lau, but still he was determined to be a "good sport" and give the lieutenant a proper welcome.

"Please, adjust this infernal racket, I prefer something we can talk around, if not over! And someone get me something stronger than a 'malted' whatever that is!"

(OOC: A ROMULAN GREASER! HAHA - I SAID THE EXACT SAME THING TO DANA JUST 10 MINUTES BEFORE!)

"With less than strenuous effort, I am sure commander. I will want that image deleted of course."

Qech quirked an eyebrow and half-grinned at Uvek's 'request'.

"No, Lieutenant. I'm afraid it stays." Her slightly mocking expression clearly read: 'Just try and do something about it.'

"Please, adjust this infernal racket, I prefer something we can talk around, if not over! And someone get me something stronger than a 'malted' whatever that is!"

Qech sighed. If anyone needed loosening up, it appeared that Uvek was in the greatest need. "Computer. Something quieter please, of the same general theme."

The music quickly changed from Nat King Cole to 'Earth Angel', and the volume went down a notch. "Better? And I'm sure there's a drink from this time period on the database that you could stomach. As for me, I kind of like these malted whatevers."

Calodan produced a PADD from his pocket and quickly took Lt. Lioy aside. He could be heard describing the terms of his betting pool on Commander Qech's due date. The volume was just loud enough to be heard, intentionally of course. After a smile and inputting a few commands into the padd he returned to the group.

"Thanks for the reminder Commander. I had forgotten to ask our newest crewmember about the pool. Where would I be without you?" He returned her glare with a troublemaker's smile.

"And I'm sure there's a drink from this time period on the database that you could stomach. As for me, I kind of like these malted whatevers."

"Im with you on this one Mr. Uvek. These malted whatevers are rather..bland. Luckily, I did some research. Computer, two old fashioneds if you please." There was a whirr of lights and two drinks in tall glasses appeared on the table. Calodan retrieved one for himself and one for Uvek. "It may not be Romulan Ale, but it matches the time period and its quite good." He raised his glass in a toast. "Great party Lt. Lioy."

Captain Brennon stepped through the holodeck doors and into the 1950's. Although he knew what to expect, he wasn't quite prepared for the exacting detail. He managed to close his mouth as he stepped forward, looking the part for which he dressed -- perhaps a little too predictably. The dress whites of an American Naval Officer, appropriate to time and rank, seemed almost shining, despite the relative dimness of the room itself. His heels clicked out resounding footfalls as he stepped into the hall, removing his hat as he came up to his fellows.

"Very fine detail work, Lieutenant. Did you program it yourself? I'm almost positive we don't have anything like this in our database."

I see you followed my advice about the cake. Good thing, because I emphasized that when I told the Captain."

"Well, we certainly have that." Aria looked over at the snack bar. There was four different types of chocolate cake, ranging from devil's food to fudge to marble, period era smoothies and milkshakes, coffee, cookies, hamburgers and, strangely enough, shrimp.

"I wasn't sure what everyone liked so I just got a lot of everything."

She smiled as the "greaser" romulan showed up. "You must be Lieutenant Uvek. I must say I like your hair like that. You should consider styling it that way permanently. It would be...creative for a romulan."

She smiled too at Croft as he approached and, recognizing him as a fellow betazoid, sent him a wordless telepathic greeting. It was a nod to their shared heritage and a proffered friendship rolled up into one.

So Lt. Lioy, are you settling in on the Hartington? She's a bit of an old lady, but we've worked hard to keep her up to date with current specs. I know when I came aboard after spending time on some of the newer ships I was a bit thrown.

Aria shook her head at Calodan with a grin. "Actually, it doesn't bother me a bit. My previous assignment was on a ship just as...classic as the Hartington, but that didn't stop it from feeling like home. I think I'll fit in just fine here."

She watched in amusement at Uvek's obvious discomfitness, and Quech's responses. There was a good camaraderie between the people here. Though she could feel stress emanating from nearly everyone, it was fading ever so slightly as the crew got a chance to smile, joke and laugh. It seemed this party was just exactly what the doctor ordered. This made Aria feel good. A quiet part of her said I did this, rather smugly. She smothered that little voice quickly. It wouldn't do to be too cocky. Instead she joined the smiles and laughter, throwing herself into getting to know these people.

Calodan pulled her aside to bet on Quech's pregnancy, which she rounded to a good five months from now.

She turned when the captain arrived, noting in amusement as she did so that he alone managed to arrive in a completely respectable costume. "Yes, I did," she responded to his question. "I looked through your saved programs briefly, but I figured you'd have all gotten used to them by now. Besides, I love strange historical periods and I've recently been studying Earth's. Be grateful I didn't choose France in the eighteenth century. I think even you would have failed to look respectable if I had."

Then, she could no longer help herself. She ordered the computer to play "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" and dragged the Romulan onto the dance floor. He looked so uncomfortable already, she coudn't resist adding to it a little.

Qech looked up from her conversations as the Captain came striding in, all decked-out in his naval finery. It fit him so well that the Commander actually felt disappointed. "You know" she said and he joined the group "I was really hoping for something a little more... embarrassing." She nodded to Uvek, and reigned in her desire to laugh once more. "But I guess I should have seen it coming. Very sharp though, Sir. Very sharp."

She looked to Calodan and shrugged. "I suppose I'll be the only one in powder blue this evening. Unless Uvek wants to volunteer for a costume change."

Calodan smiled as Lt. Lioy dragged Uvek out to the dance floor. The Romulan looked incredibly uncomfortable and the counselor had to know that. She'll fit in just fine. he thought to himself.

"Well Captain, you look absolutely dashing. Commander Qech was worried the two of you might be dressed identically. It's good you went this route, the powder blue would have clashed with your eyes." Calodan smiled. He knew he was treading that line..but even the Captain needed to let off some steam.
