USS Guardian - Staff Room
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo

"Sir, we've completed our analysis of the most critical systems and should be able to effect repairs in 18 hours. Issues are still popping up, however, in some of the secondary systems. So far they haven't taken too long to fix, but its a matter of finding them. Best guess is 24 hours until fully operational. We'll be warp capable in 6."

Lucky for him, Mehv's facial hair covered up the color rising in his cheeks as he vaguely remembers the acts of "violence" he performed on his ship. He was glad the Captain wasn't focusing on that part of the situation and instead talking about how to recover.

Daniels leaned in. "With all due respect, sir, how do we go about explaining this phenomenon? We obviously can't get closer to the planet without suffering through whatever that was again, and a landing party would seem out of the question. So, what do we do?"

Marek glanced at Daniels, then the others, "It is my opinion that we do nothing, save for notifying Starfleet of the dangerous nature of the planet." Marek shifts in his chair slightly, obviously uncomfortable, "We could send Lenara, and possibly Vanquax, on their own, but I deem the risk to great to attempt another mission to the planet. He glanced at his first officer, waiting for his input.

Adams sat quietly in his chair, thinking back to how he had acted over the last couple days, how foolish he sounded and acted. He glanced up only to see Captain Marek glaring at him.

"The only other option would be the environmental suits, Sir," Adams paused. "In other missions they've protected crew against different spacial events like this, but as you know, Captain, it's not a guarantee that they will this time."

Adams paused. "I suggest we send Lenara along with just one other crew member in an evironmental suit. If he or she doesn't have any ill effects, then send down more crew. I think it's too important to just skip exploring tis phenominia and planet. I'm curious about the ruins."

The first officer looked around the room, nearly everyone looked exhausted from the events of the mission.

Lt. Taarak

Conference room

Taarak rubbed his temples with both hands as he heard the Captaina and first officer discuss their options. The Orion flight officer was growing impatient and slammed his fist down almost uncontrollably.

"You've got to be kidding me, Commander, you want us to go back?" Taarak said, slightly raising his voice. "I don't know about any of you, but I don't want to go back to that nightmare. I don't need to be thinking of my father and homeworld like that."

Taarak stopped, realizing his voice was starting to turn into a yell. He went back to rubbing his temples. The memories of his father and home world were still haunting him. It had been almost a year since he last though of his father and even longer thinking about his home world.

Mehv reaches out and puts his hand gently on Lt Taarak's shoulder. "While I am embarassed by actions, it seems some of us experienced things in a different way. While I have no want to return to that state of mind, I don't feel we should pass up the opportunity to study this planet further, especially since that is our primary mission here. It is possible that this might not be a natural phenomenon and that it was created in order to protect someone or something."

"We do, however, need to take extreme precaution to prevent the effect again. I can lead a team to see if there are other ways to protect ourselves from the effects of whatever is causing the mind altering effect. We may be able to determine how to shield ourselves even before sending anyone in."

"Ummm...hello?" interjected Daniels. "Environmental suits!? I don't mean to be insubordinate here, but we are floating on the biggest environmental suit of all and look waht happened here! I agree with Captain Marek. A bouy and bye-bye planet."

Marek looked at his officers, logic dictating one course, while his pride dictated another. He pondered for a moment, then looked at Kuplo,
"Mehvra, see if you can modify the shields to block the radiation. Ensign Lenara and Lt. Harper will assist. I will consider sending the runabout back if you can come up with a way to protect the crew." He turned to Taarak, "I will expect you to pilot the runabout, so you must prepare yourself for the possibility." Marek stood, "We will continue on our present course, at impulse, while the modifications are attempted. Dismissed."

Taarak shrugged off the hand on his shoulder and quickly rose at the Captain's order. His temper had hit a new high on the vessel, the last time it had reached this level it was on his previous ship just before his encounter with te captain.

Just as he was about to open his mouth and say something he'd regret, he felt a strong hand on his chest. He look over and notice the new first officer next to him, holding him back slightly with a stern look.

Adams leaned in. "Take a breath, Lieutenant, step away with me. Now." He was pressing on Taarak's chest slightly.

Taarak hesitantly stepped back and moved away with the commander. "Sir, I can't believe ...."

Adams interrupted the flight control officer. "Be quiet, Lieutenant, for your own good," Adams whispered to Taarak. "You open your mouth and only bad things will happen. Go back to your quarters and get prepared for the mission if one happens. The captain knows your concerns. You get in his face and it's your career."

Adams let his hand off the Orion's chest. "I've read your file, you argued with your previous captain to point where you were nearly booted off the ship. This is your second chance. Acknowledge the Captain and get you butt to work."

Taarak was stunned at the Commander's remarks. He was being brutely honest with him, but yet was trying to help him before he made a mistake. Taarak nodded and approached the conference room table where the Captain was.

"Yes Sir," Taarak answered Marek. "With your permssion sir, I'd like to hlp Ensign Lenara and Lt. Harper with the radiation. My experience at the Utopia Yards might be of some use."

Thank goodness Taarak was green, he knew he's be blushing with embarrassment from his attitude in the conference room.

Adams sat back down in his chair and picked up a PADD on the table in front of him, looking over data on the planet their sensor did pick up.

Daniels watched the quiet exchange with a surprised look on his face. No doubt their previous XO, Talbert the terrible, would have eaten Taarak for lunch, not given him this quiet team pep talk. Maybe there was hope for the man after all.

He scooped up his PADD and moved onto the bridge. As usual, there would be little for him to do....

Marek nodded to Taarak, pretending to have missed the side bar, "That would be appreciated." Marek glanced one more time around the room, then left, making a beeline for his ready room. Once out of sight, he let out a deep breath, trying to regain his composure. The effects of the planet had left him unsettled, to say the least. Their was a brief moment when he thought he was going to reach across the table and strangle the young helmsman. He replicated a cup of tea, started some calming music, lowered the lighting, and sat at the desk. He closed his eyes, continuing the breathing exercises.

Lenara approached Kuplo, for once she didn't have much of a smile on her face, "Well, Mehvra, I am interested to see what you come up with, I for one am at a loss for what to do in this instance."

The Orion sheepishly appraoched Ensign Lenara and Mehvra and shared a quick glance at the two of them. "Perhaps we should take a look at some Borg-type shielding that is in our computer banks. They're pretty sophisticated and their shields may hold up better to this phenomina better than ours."

Taarak looked more towards Mehvra. "Or some additional plating along the hull along with the shields."

Adams moved around the bridge, not wanting to sit at the moment. He was trying to get his mind off of how he acting during his time infected by the planet's effects.

He looked at Daniels and noticed he was looking a little bored. He approached the officer. "Officer." Adams said, approaching the comm officer. "Back in the conference room, nice job on coming up with another option."

Adams was sure he surprised Daniels, who spoke up quickly when the first officer suggested the environmental suits. Adams appreciated hearing the options from the other crew and what they feel about his and the captain's ideas. He leaned in slightly closer to the comm officer. "Anytime you have something to say, don't hold back. I welcome your thoughts and the thoughts of this crew. We'll work together better that way. Keep up the good work."

Adams turned slightly away and finally made his way to the captain's seat. I wonder what Marek is thinking right now. Taarak must have ticked him off pretty good, especially with the recent events aboard the ship.

"Uhhh...aye, aye sir." Was the response from the confused but relieved Comms officer. This guy was throwing everything out of whack. Where's the yelling, the insults, or the just plain slave driving? When's the other shoe going to drop?
Still watching the XO go back to his chair, Daniels decided he probably meant what he said, and thus his estimation (and respect) of the man increased a notch.
