(OOC: No, you are doing very well...I like the interplay. Uvek isn't the easiest to get a hold of, even for me. I'm trying to feel out how a Romulan with vulcan qualities is going to become more "human" Very Happy Rolling Eyes Wink )

"The fact is I was brutally tortured with no attempt at any conversion process. My mind was left to wander in pain and disassociation. During that time and since, I have lost something of myself." He looked down at his left hand. "I was careless and lost my left hand, I was helpless and lost the tip of my ear, and I am frustrated and lost my..." what? He couldn't say it. It was there, but what was IT?

"In truth, doctor, I do not know why I came here. I could have apologized in a more open setting, but something is not right. I have lost my sense of any joy or peace. I have not been able to resume my walks along the river Fethraie on the holodeck. I have not been able to focus on my workouts with Petty Officer Koester." He shook his head, "I have not even been able to enjoy parties with my crewmates. All I have is the seething anger and need for vengance. I want to crush Voss' very head in my hands and see his entire organization destroyed PIECE BY PIECE, and I could do it with these bare hands!"

Quite without realizing it, Uvek had stood with his fists clenched in front of the lieutenant shaking and green, his emotions turning his eyes into black hard flint. At that moment he was quite dangerous. As the emotion subsided, he swallowed and straightened, unclenching his fists and pulling on his tunic.

"Forgive me, doctor." He said, uncertainly taking his seat again. "I guess that is as apt a demonstration as I can give."

Aria Lioy's Office
Speaking to Uvek

Aria blinked at Uvek's sudden transformation, leaning away from him without realizing it. His abrupt recovery was no less shocking.

"That's...quite all right," she said. With an effort she forced her voice to become level. "Unfortunately, crushing people's heads is probably not going to be possible."

She cleared her throat. "So we're going to have to work past that anger. But..." she hesitated. "Perhaps now isn't the best time. You've...certainly gotten in touch with your feelings, and that's good. That's an important first step. I'm afraid to push things too fast."

She cocked her head. "Maybe I could meet with you regularly and we could talk. Would that be all right? Maybe you could show me the river Fethraie. I've never seen it. What do you think?"

"Oh," she added, as an afterthought. "And you can call me Aria. Doctor's a little formal."

Phew! she thought to herself. Where did that come from? One minute he'd been cool as a cucumber and the next became boiling lava. Aria hadn't sensed any of that turmoil, save in the most general way, until it erupted. That made it more shocking to her than Uvek's fit alone would have been. And the emotions...her head was ringing with them. She felt like she had to be alone someplace quiet for awhile just to silence the emotional echo. She was thankful she had been suppressing her telepathic sensitivity or it would have been much worse. All the same, the sooner she could get the Romulan out the door the better. A migraine was already beginning to pump behind her brows.

Also, though she barely wanted to admit it, his sudden surge of anger had badly scared her.

((OOC: This could work out nicely. If Aria's a little wary around you now, it might be fun to roleplay how she gets over it during gameplay. A little tension might be fun. And we have excuses to continue talking in the future too...starting with therapy sessions which could grow into a friendship over time. Wanna play that up?))

(OOC: OK! Good work)

Uvek stood. "Thank you doc...Aria. I apologize for my emotional outburst. I wonder if the mind meld with T'Lau has somehow fractured in subconscious spots, but I agree that perhaps I should resume this at a later date." He moved to the door and half turned. "I will contact you for future appointments. Thank you again."

He straightened and moved out into the hall.

Croft had put off meeting with Aria as long as he thought he could, before walking up and ringing the chime at her door. He didn't want her to seek him out, but the control freak in him wanted things set at his terms as much as possible. Funny, considering for the first time he felt like he didn't need a therapist. It also didn't help that the Hartington kept getting Betazoid counselors, the only beings he had felt comfortable around since his fiance had died. He entered when called, walking up to the desk, "Good Afternoon, Counselor Lioy." He offered his hand. Even though he was a little nervous, mostly he just felt content. A new feeling for the young Lt. He was adjusting to the new crew better than he had ever hoped.

Aria Lioy's Office.
Speaking to Croft

Aria stood up and shook his hand, her eyes sparkling. "Lieutenant Croft," she greeted. "It's good to see you. I was starting to wonder if you were just a myth."

He seems in a good mood," she thought to herself. Good. After meeting with Uvek yesterday, I could use a little happiness. A flash of discomfort shot through her as she thought of the Romulan. She shook it off. That was a problem for another day. She focused on the crewman in front of her instead, his cheer seeping into her. She found herself grinning as she gestured to the couch.

"Please, have a seat."

He nodded, sitting on the chair, and kicking his legs out. "I always find that if you physically get comfortable, you tend to relax more, wouldn't you agree?" He smiled warmly, glancing around the office.

Croft looked back to the Counselor, seeing she was content to wait him out. He toyed with the idea of throwing thoughts at her, but probably wasn't the correct time or place.

"So, is there somewhere you would like to start?"

"Definately," she agreed, leaning back in her own comfy chair. "That's why I have the couch."

She shrugged. "How about, how have things been going lately?

One week of recovery was what Doctor Kiv had prescribed after recovering from the parasite virus. One week of doing nothing other than playing with his German Shepherd Dog - Max - and reading and trying to regain his physical strength had driven him up the wall.

Petty Officer Karl Koester - USS Hartington Master at Arms - went to type a message into his computer console. It had not even been a day with too much time to think and he needed to speak to someone.

There was the new counselor onboard and he figured now was the best time to try and introduce himself.

He fired up his personal computer terminal and sent a message to Counselor Lioy:

Counselor:

When would be the best time for me to come over and speak to you.

Very Respectfully

Karl Koester
PO1
USS Hartington Master at Arms.

Aria Lioy's Office
...Writing to Koester

Aria read the message at her terminal. It took her only moments to draft a reply.

Karl Koester:

Tomorrow, whenever you wish to drop by would be fine.

Your Respect is Returned,

Aria Lioy
Lieutenant JG
Counselor and Diplomatic Officer
USS Hartington.

She was amused by Koester's extreme formality and couldn't resist responding in kind. She wondered what sort of person he would be.

First Meeting with Lioy

The next day dawned and Petty Officer Koester hit the door chime on Counselor Lioy's office door and waited for the authorization to be allowed inside...

Croft thought about his answer, then spoke, "Well, besides almost dying, things are going pretty good." He smirked, "Things have been put into perspective for me since the infection. I'm not taking things for granted anymore."

"Good morning Counselor." Koester said as he walked in: "I'm not sure how much of my service record or personal history you're aware of since taking over as counselor so I'll summarize what Counselor Zeara had me engage in."

"As you may or may not know my fiancee - Andi - died in a POW camp after months of abuse by Cardassians and I find the reptiles the most hateful species." Koester said: "Counselor Zeara had me remembering Andi before she died to help me try and come to grips with the fact that she was murdered. Unfortunately it hasn't improved my disposition towards Cardassians. The hateful vermin should have been obliterated by the Jem'Hadar to the last."

Aria Lioy's Office
Speaking to Croft

"That sounds like a healthy attitude," Aria said. "Tell me about it. What things have changed for you?"
