OOC I know the last storyline isn't quite wrapped up, bare with me, I need to get this line going before I possibly disappear for ten days. The first little bit will be a warm up, everyone is on Alpha shift on the bridge, that should be on the bridge anyway, although it's fine if a few non-bridge officers happen to be their as well.

USS Guardian
Stardate 54213.42

Captain Marek was well into a description of their current mission, if those in attendance didn't know any better, they would think he was excited.

Marek was addressing Adams, his tone even, but as he spoke he had to force himself to keep from speaking quickly.
"It is truly a fascinating event. A binary pulsar system, that rarely comes into synchronization, will do so in three days. Alterran records indicate that as the pulsars align their photonic and electromagnetic resonance, the most unique astrological event occurs. It is indeed fortunate that we are so close at such a fortuitous time."

Lenara turns to the Captain, a smile on her face, "Records indicate my people have only witnessed this event from a great distance, they had calculated the interval and intended to witness the event first hand but the Borg attacked decades before the next alignment. The Myosians attempted to document the phenomenon, but the vessel sent to the system was never heard from again."

USS Guardian- Bridge
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo

Mehv overhears and chimes in, clearly excited by the prospect of witnessing the event. "Due to the directional nature of pulsars there should be no danger even at a close distance by remaining off the emission axis. However, we can only theorize what effect of the alignment will have."

Lenara looks at her console, a light flashing in front of her. When she doesn't hear the expected announcement, she looks up. Ensign Daniels is leaning against Lt. Harper's console, deep in some likely self aggrandizing story. She taps a few commands, then addresses the bridge. "Captain, we are receiving a general distress signal. The Myosian Colony in the Nos system reports that a large asteroid is heading for their planet. They report that none of the ships in the area are equipped to handle such a disaster. They request immediate assistance. At maximum warp we could be there in two hours 48 minutes and twelve seconds."

Marek listens to the Ensign's report, giving no outward sign of his deep disappointment. On a whim, he makes a rash decision.
"Ensign Lenara, Lt Harper, report to the Tigris. Lt. V, I would like two security officers." Marek turns to Adams a trace of a grin on his face, "Commander, you have the Guardian, as soon as we depart, make best speed to Nos and assist the Myosians. I am not willing to let this opportunity pass us by." Marek heads for the turbolift, his first officer, Lenara, and Harper trailing behind him.

ACTION
Against Adams wishes, Marek departs the Guardian on the runabout Tigris, Lt Harper, Ensign Lenara, and several Security officers with him. The Guardian continues on to the Nos system. The runabout makes good time and arrives at the binary pulsar system in several hours. Initial scans indicate the system has several uninhabitable planetoids and one barely class M planet.

Marek sat at a science console, watching the sensors as events unfold. The pulsars were amazing, the energy output seemed to feed on one another as they neared synchronization. Suddenly, the runabout lurched as it is hit by something.
"Report."

Lenara's fingers fly over the helm as the ship lurches yet again.
"There appears to be an increasing gravimetric flux, inertial dampeners are no longer able to compensate, I'm attempting to move the runabout out of the next..." At that moment, the runabout gives it's worse lurch yet, and the console next to one of the security officers, Lt. Tyrel, explodes, blowing the Vulcan officer out of his seat. The lighting flickers, and the ship goes from a smooth course with intermittent shudders, to an increasing vibration and a scream of impulse engines.
"We have lost inertial dampeners, lateral thrusters are failing." The ship bucks again.

"Set a course for that class M planet!" Marek tapped commands on his console, "Routing axillary power to the thrusters." The ship continued to buck, as on screen the view changed to that of a reddish yellow orb that was rapidly growing on screen. The ship suddenly gave a violent lurch, causing Marek to hit his head on the bulkhead. As all went black, he had a passing thought of his parents back on Vulcan.

Lt. Cmdr. Jonathan Adams
USS Guardian
Bridge

Adams sat at the center chair, still uneasy with Captain Marek off the ship on his own little mission, but he still had to focus on the current mission.

Adams stood and moved to the front of the bridge where he turned to face the rest of the crew. "We're going to be at Nos is a few minutes, anyone have any ideas on how we should proceed with the asteroid."

Adams looked around at each of his officers.

It will depend on the size and proximity to the planet, but we should be able to use the deflector dish to modify the trajectory enough to allow it to pass the planet harmlessly.

Lt. Taarak
USS Guardian
Bridge

The Orion sitting at the helm position spoke up after the engineer. "Why don't we just blow it to bits with phasers and photon torpedoes."

Taarak looked at the Commander pacing the bridge.

--------------------------------

Lt. Cmdr. Jonathan Adams
USS Guardian
Bridge

Adams stopped in his tracks and turned to the helmsman and shook his head.

"We do that and we run the risk of it just breaking up and spreading even more distruction throughout the planet," Adams then looked over at the chief engineer. "Mehvra, lets get moving on your plan. The planet doesn't have that much time remaining, use any resources that you need."

The Commander nodded at the chief engineer. "I'll even roll up my sleeves and help."

---------------------
Lt. Taarak
USS Guardian
Bridge

Taarak's console lit up as the Guardian jumped out of warp near Nos. "We've arrived at the planet, Sir."

The planet, with the huge asteroid hurdling towards it filling the viewscreen. The asteriod nearly 1/3 the size of the planet. Much larger than any of them had anticipated.

USS Guardian - Bridge
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo

Quickly entering commands into his console, "The upgrades we made to the deflector system allows us to channel a significant amount of power to the dish. I just hope it'll be enough time. They call it an asteroid, but it looks like a rogue dwarf planet. We should be able to make a course adjustment on the asteroid with four 30 second bursts from the deflector. We have to split that so we can recharge the system, but if we act in the next few hours, we should be able to safely alter the trajectory to a route it around the planet."

Mehv taps his comm-badge. "Lt Poussant, get a team together and prepare the defector system for a sustained gravimetric pulse. I'll join you in a bit." Mehv returns his attention to the console and a furious barrage of beeps ensues as he works, then it goes silent. The officer in the station next to him looks over quizzically, to see Mehv staring straight ahead for a second. Quickly turning around, he addresses the Commander.

"Sir, we may be able to send the asteroid into this system's star, thereby preventing any further danger from it."

Marek slowly regained consciousness, his head throbbing, his mouth dry. At first he couldn't remember where he was, but as he shifted slightly, a sharp pain in his leg reminded him just where he was exactly. They had been stranded on the planet for three days, most of that time had been spent huddled in the wreckage of the Tigris, hiding from the massive sandstorm that even now was howling outside. Marek glanced over at Lt. Harper, who appeared to be asleep, her arm in a sling. Lenara was no where to be found, probably trying to make repairs to the subspace transmitter. The bodies of the two dead security officers had been removed days ago, although they still haunted Marek's dreams. They had been lucky to make it to the planet's surface at all, the sudden gravimetric and electromagnetic surges delivering a one two punch as Harper described it to the ship's systems. The runabout had partially broke apart on entering the atmosphere. It would never fly again. Marek closed his eyes, attempting to return to the meditative healing trance he had been in, trying to conserve his strength. They didn't have much water left, and if they couldn't get an emergency transmission out, they were in serious trouble.

OOC I'm back hehehe

ACTION

The crew works tirelessly, slowly but surely shifting the trajectory of the large asteroid until in the last few kilometers it cleared the planet. Once the asteroid was far enough from the planet, the Guardian fires a volley of quantum torpedoes, breaking up the asteroid and sending the remaining pieces hurtling towards the system's sun. It is only after they had finished their task that the faint subspace signal reaches the Guardian.

Lt. Mckenna Thomas double checked her console before turning to Commander Adams, "Commander, I'm reading a general distress call from the Tigris, very faint." Her fingers fly across the console, "I can't get a solid lock on the signal, but it does appear to be in the binary pulsar system they were headed for."

"Sir we need 20 minutes to reconfigure the power couplings and deflector dish for warp capability. Wait... make that 10 minutes. We can do without the recalibration until we are underway."

Closing out his station, he moves quickly for the lift to assist in the work.

OOC we will just move things along a bit, shall we?

Marek had been in and out of consciousness for days. His injuries, combined with a lack of fluids, had caused his body temperature to rise dangerously. He found himself drifting back to wakefulness as the cool touch of a hypospray is felt against his neck. After a moment, he feels a brief flash of pain as he is lifted off of the bunk he had been resting on. He opened his eyes, and the familiar face of Lt. Malen, the Coridanite doctor, smiled down at him.

"Welcome back, Captain. Looks like we got here just in time."

Marek just nodded, closing his eyes again. He could feel the medical cart beneath him as it moved him to a safe transport point. He hoped that the rest of the team was safe, but he didn't have the energy to ask. He let the feeling of relief wash over him, realizing suddenly just how much he wanted to live.

It was nearly a week later when Marek was finally cleared for duty, his internal injuries taking several surgeries and time to fully heal. He rode the turbolift to the bridge, having been kept up to speed on the ships progress, and taking no small amount of pride in his crew as the carried on perfectly well without him. As the doors slide open and he entered the bridge, he couldn't help but blushing slightly at the applause that spread like a wildfire across the bridge crew as he entered.

"As you were," was all he could think to say as he took the command chair.

OOC I am going to leave this open for a bit, but I will post the new storyline probably later today. Look for "Bat out of Hell."
