OOC I'm going to open this topic, let people post if they like. You should have all gotten a PM giving a little starting info, if you haven't pm me. I don't have time for the detailed start post right now but it is Gamma shift about 4 weeks after Divergent Paths.

USS Guardian - Crew Quarters
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo

It had been a fruitful Beta shift in Engineering, the port sensor array had been reporting strange readings, and the crew had been able to diagnose and repair the issue quickly. A worn EM shield was the culprit and the dis-assembly and re-assembly went smoothly.

Back at his quarters, Mehv was about to enter an early sleep cycle. He went through some meditations and laid down with a PADD to read before falling asleep. Some productivity reports should do the trick, he thought.

USS Guardian
Stardate 54290.34
Near the edge of the Julant Expanse

Lt Tiral Kortan was taking the bridge watch for Gamma shift, his fingers absentmindedly playing with his traditional Bajoran earpiece as he read a PADD. He took every watch shift he could get, he was working towards a command track, and wanted all the experience he could get. So far, nothing out of the ordinary had happened on his watch, which if he was honest with himself he didn't mind, he wanted more experience before things got to exciting. His attention was pulled from his reading by the Ensign at the Ops station.

Ensign Nelo cleared her throat, "Sir, I am reading a power drain in main engineering."

Tiral tapped the console next to him, "Bridge to Engineering, is everything alright down there?" Suddenly the lights dimmed, and all the consoles in the room went black for nearly five seconds, before they slowly began to flicker back to life.

Ensign Nelo taps rapidly on her console when it comes back to life, "Sir, I'm reading containment failure on the warp core, the ship is dropping out of warp!"

"Red alert!"

USS Guardian
Main Engineering

Roe tapped a few commands into his console, then turned to the rest of the team, "Warp containment field collapse eminent, get out before Engineering is sealed off!" He watched as the team evacuated, and as soon as they were clear he tapped another series of commands on his console.

On the bridge, things went from bad to worse.

"Lt., All command functions are being routed to engineering!"

Tiral turned from the Ops officer to the Tactical, who nodded in agreement. He tapped his combadge, "Engineering, what the hell is going on down there!" When he received no response, he tapped his combadge again, "Bridge to Captain Marek, we have a situation here."

The turbolift doors opened, and Marek stepped onto the bridge, "The red alert was enough to get me to the bridge Lt., what is the problem." After the excited officer explained what little he knew, Marek turned to the tactical officer, "Send a security team to Main Engineering, we need more data before we decide our next course of action."

Lenara enters the bridge, and after a brief summary of recent events from the Ops officer she was relieving, she took the station. Her fingers flew across the console as she worked, trying to ascertain exactly what had occurred. Most of her queries were answered with an error tone.

"Captain, it appears that a prearranged series of commands was activated from a console in main engineering. I can't tell who initiated the program, but there are less than a dozen crew members with the skill and security clearance to even attempt such a task."

OOC just in case there is any confusion, all senior staff would be expected on the bridge in a red alert situation.

OOC does that expectation include the Chief Engineer?

USS Guardian - Main Bridge
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo

When the red alert sounded, Mehv jumped up and threw on his uniform quickly. Nearly running to Engineering, he was rerouted by a call to head to the bridge. His normal station was in Engineering. Wondering what was going on he turned around and headed to another turbolift. Exiting on the bridge he moved over to a console and relieved an officer there. Getting a quick update from Ensign Lenara sitting next to him, he start working himself.

"Lt Roe, what is your status?"

No answer.

"Lt Roe, please respond."

"Sir, I don't know for sure, but I think Lt Roe has done this. Of all those on my team, only Lt Roe has the knowledge to pull of this command transfer so quickly. There appears to be a routine here to help automate the process for whoever did this."

Mehv starts digging into the code, but a notification appears. "Oh no you don't!" A quick set of commands ends in a error. "The file has been deleted, I wasn't able to copy it. Part of the routine was to delete itself after a period of time. I wonder if it remembered to scrub to ODN relays. Ensign Lenara, please initiate a search of the relays for a copy of the routine before it gets overwritten."

OOC yeah, good guess I should have been more clear, you would have run into some roadblocks heading to engineering.

Marek turned to Kuplo, "Mehvra, I assume the warp core breach was just a ruse to clear engineering? What systems do we have access too?"

Lenara was tapping rapidly on her console, "Sensors, both internal and external, internal comms, basic computer access are all still available. Propulsion, weapons, helm control, environmental controls, transporters and shields are all locked out. It is highly unlikely we will be able to break the encryption." Lenara paused for a moment, "I am detecting Level 10 forcefields at all access points to Engineering sections on decks 11 thru 15."

USS Guardian - Bridge
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo

"Sensors indicate no issues with warp containment. Sir, I suggest we work immediately to secure what access we have currently available: encrypt the systems we can, get someone to the computer core as quickly as possible, and start shutting down his outside access by decoupling the ODN relays around him.

He will probably be able to stop some of it, but if we get multiple teams all working together I doubt he'd be able to keep up."

USS Guardian Bridge
Captain Marek

Marek nods to Kuplo, "See to the ODN relays, Mehvra, I want my ship back."

Lt Tanaka looks up from the helm station, a surprised look on her face. "Captain, the ship has changed course, heading 217 mark 5. We are rapidly approaching maximum warp."

Marek turns to the not so young Ops officer, "Lenara, what is on that heading?"

Lenara taps a few commands on her console, then turns to Marek, "Captain, that heading is devoid of any objects of interest for over 500 light years. At maximum warp it will take us ten weeks to reach the star system." Lenara pauses for a moment, "That heading will lead us straight into Tal'Harton controlled space."

USS Guardian - Jefferies Tube
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo

Mehv put eight teams into motion systematically cutting off Engineering from as much of the ship as possible. Mehv took Lt Poussant with him and started isolating the main computer core. They were ready to disconnect the final step, which would drop the Guardian out of warp rather abruptly until the back-up system kicked in. The captain had been made aware of the situation through use of a runner as this was critical information and it was unknown whether the communications were being monitored.

Now Mehv broke the communication silence, "Captain, we are ready here." Mehv waited expectantly for the command to continue.

Sweat broke out on his forehead and matted the fur there. It was not warm by any means as the computer core environment was strictly regulated. The sweat was induced by fear. Roe, or whoever it was, had control of ship wide security and environmental controls. If the hijacker really didn't like what was going on, he could easily seal off a section and vent atmosphere. At least until engineering was isolated enough. This lead him to worry about his other teams and how they were faring.

Can't do anything about that now, Mehv,he told himself. Stay on task, you'll find out when you return to the bridge.

Before Marek could respond Lenara broke in, "Mehvra, stand by, if my station is accurate we may have a problem." Lenara turned to Marek, "Sir, secondary plasma flow conduits and power transfer conduits have been activated in tandem with primary systems. Warp core power output is increasing rapidly, currently at 108% and rising." As if to punctuate Lenara's statements, the decking beneath their feet begins to vibrate.

Marek taps his combadge, "Mehvra, if you cut the main computer now, what is the worse case scenario?"

USS Guardian - Computer Core
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo

"Worst case... blow the entire power network resulting in a dead ship. The case is likely enough that I'd be hesitant to move forward."

Marek walks slowly over to the command chair, taking a moment to center himself, "Mehvra, stand by." His train of thought is interrupted by the helmswoman.

"Captain, I'm getting some very conflicting data. The warp field is being reconfigured, and I am no longer getting an accurate reading on heading and speed." She shakes her head, "I can't explain it sir."

Lenara turned to Marek, "I may be able to, sir." She paused for a moment, as if collecting her thoughts, "I believe that Chief Roe is attempting to break the Transwarp Barrier. Warp field configuration is consistent with that technology."

Marek looked at Lenara, his face inscrutable, "We know of no species, besides the Borg, that can travel at those speeds."

Lenara glanced at Lt. Tanaka as she spoke, "My own species had similar technology, it was how we had spread so far into this quadrant. I should point out that I don't believe Roe will be able to maintain the field for long. There are indications that his theory has failed to account for several key variables."

Marek kept his voice even, but it was beginning to become clear that he was anything but happy, "None of the information we have found suggests such technology, and you yourself have never mentioned it before."

Lenara met the Captain's gaze, "There are many species in Starfleet, and many keep secrets of their people. I saw no reason or need to share this information. Federation technology does not lend itself to this modification." As if to prove her point, the ship rocks slightly, and an alarm sounds. "Lenara turns back to her panel, "Captain, hull stresses are exceeding design tolerances. Hull integrity at 93% and falling."

ACTION

For nearly ten minutes, the crew battled to regain control as the ship was placed under greater and greater stresses. The last 5 minutes the hull was making alarming groaning sounds. Suddenly, the ship gives a last shudder and begins slowing down, while all command functions are rerouted back the bridge and the forcefields are dropped. As security teams pour into Engineering, Roe is found with his hands in the air, a blank look on his face. He makes no attempt to explain himself, and accompanies the security officers to the brig without a fight. On the bridge, most systems are offline for the moment.

Marek sits in the command chair, an intense look on his face, "Status report!"

Lenara taps her console, "Sensors are slowly coming back on line, the interference from the modified warp field has scrambled the inputs. Shields are down, hull breaches on decks 9, 12 and 15, containment fields holding. Main power has been lost on Deck 4, we have multiple power conduit failures, plasma flow regulators are damaged, and we have lost several plasma injectors. If the computer can be believed."

"Lt. Kuplo, I want a repair estimate as soon as possible."
