Tes blinked at being singled out. The Andorian Tactical Officer had not spoken a word to her before now, so her sudden hostility surprised Tes. However, the bright glow from around the corridor drove it from her mind. She craned her neck, trying to see, as she stepped away from the security team (and really, that was just sense. Why would she have objected to that?)...but the entity was hidden from sight.

Elen cast her mind to her options, trying to think of ways to affect a creature made out of energy. A few came to mind, but which one was the best?

"Lieutenant," she said to sh'Talh. "I was thinking. Once we fail to communicate with this thing, it will likely become hostile. More hostile than it already is, I mean. An excess of power might drive it off. If I overload the consoles its feeding off of we could force it to retreat." She hesitated. "It might not work," she admitted. "But it's worth a try, don't you think?"

as the lift opens onto deck ten she steps out and does a quick check around before stepping into line with the rest of the security team.

"VanQuax reporting in" she says as she steps into the formation of the rest of the team

Character: Lieutenant Solana
Location: Deck 10, USS Guardian

Solana stepped forward, drawing out and opening her tricorder as she moved towards the sphere of energy. After taking a few preliminary scans she lowered the device and spoke aloud.

"My name is Lieutenant Solana, I represent the crew of the Starship Guardian. You are interfering with the operation of this vessel. We request that you cease your actions and allow for formal contact between us to commence."

There is no visible response as the sphere continues to drain energy from the ship at an alarming rate, it's swirl of colors and energy discharges swirling at a steady pace. Suddenly, it moves, approaching Solana. It moves within a few inches of Solana, causing the fine hairs on her arms to raise with the electrical field it was generating. She could see her reflection in the surface of the sphere, slightly distorted due to the curvature of it's surface. It hovered there, as if waiting for something.

((BTW, Zheara, we're not ignoring you. We're just in a 'dramatic moment' so to speak, and therefore can't really stop to chat. But feel free to get involved. Smile ))

Lieutenant Elen eyed the entity for a moment, making sure it wasn't about to attack the Vulcan. When nothing alarming happened she silently edged over to a nearby wall console and removed a panel. Carefully, she began preparing the overload she had suggested. Since the creature was now hovering before people in an alarming way, she also created a potential overload in the lighting node directly over its position. If it attacked she could make a small explosion, which should injure or distract it.

They were still in the 'diplomatic' stage of things, though, so she stopped before initializing that explosion. The entity hadn't yet become hostile, after all. Tes glanced inquiringly at Lieutenant Solana, then turned her questioning gaze to Sh'Talh.

((I have a face!!!!! Qech was kind enough to make me a photo manip of Tes! Check it out here--http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm84/amilare/tes.jpg

I will also post it up on my character profile page. Isn't it great? It looks just like I was picturing her.))

As the sphere hovered near Solana, she began to feel a mental pressure inside her head. Suddenly, she saw a flash of light, disorienting her. Suddenly, images began flashing through her mind, many incomprehensible, some identifiable as a star or nebula, although the colors were strange. Each image was charged with raw emotion, joy, sadness, hunger, loneliness. Some of the emotions were so alien they couldn't be identified. All that were near could sense the pressure, some could see the flashes of light, but only Solana received the brunt of the projection. Physically the sphere became more animated, causing some alarm with the security officers.

(OOC: no worries, I've actually been out of town the last few days)

keeping her distance seemed like a smart idea. She'd never enjoyed electrical charges... of any kind, and this thing looked like it would give one hell of a jolt. So far it seemed to want only to communicate... and not harm, so keeping her distance was rather easy to accomplish, but then it started to move.

Hand resting on her belted phaser, she took a few hesitant steps forward watching as Tes set up a rather clever way to distract the orb, but still feeling a need to be within a distance of defense she slowly but steadily inched closer to Solana.

sh'Talh stepped forward when the creature's 'attitude' shifted and put her hand down on Solana's shoulder, ready to pull her away at the slightest hint of hostility. She looked over to Lieutenant Elen, unsure as to whether her amplifying the power levels was what was causing the shift, or if the creature was doing it of its own accord. Either way, their next actions would at least determine what not to do...

"Lieutenant..." she said, looking over at Elen. "No offensive actions unless this thing gives us a red light. But if you should need some extra power..." She tapped the barrel of her phaser rifle, finishing her sentence with the gesture. "Let's stay in sync."

She shrugged. "Odds are we solve the problem or make it worse. But it will answer some questions and we can plan from there."

She then gestured to the security team. "Everyone on your guard. I've got your back, Lieutenant Solana." She did not remove her hand from the Vulcan's shoulder.

"Yes, sir," Elen nodded. "I'll wait for your signal." She eyed the energy orb, which was swirling with color in front of the Vulcan. Solana stared up into the center of it, her eyes intent. She looked poleaxed to Tes.

Lights flashed in front of the Bajoran's eyes and she shook her head impatiently, dispelling them. She didn't know what that was about, but she knew she didn't like it.

ACTION

In what seemed like an eternity to Solana, but actually only a few seconds, the orb seemed to lose interest. Everyone felt the energy level climb rapidly, several security officers even drew their phasers in alarm, but before things could escalate the entity dropped straight through the floor.

Lenara was in main engineering, working with the team to try to stabilize the ship's power grid. Suddenly a flash of light caught her attention from the corner of her eye. Turning quickly, she saw an orb approaching, it's swirling mass of blues and greens flickering with raw energy. Lenara tapped her combadge, stepping into the path of the creature.

"Security, please report to main engineering."

Lenara held out her hand, hoping to distract the being from the warp core, she heard Chief Poussant call for a level ten forcefield. The creature paused, as if confused by the new being in front of it, then engulfed the Alterran. Her body stiffened in reaction to the raw power surrounding it, bolts of energy dancing over the surface of her body.

Keeping her eyes intent on the orb she feels a strange tingling sensation and pulls her phaser from her belt and powers it up just as the tingling shifted gears and she felt like her hair would stand on end just before the thing dropped through the floor. Cursing under her breath she looked around and met several sets of concerned eyes on the security team. A moment later the call for security came through.

Along with several of her crew members she took to a run for the turbolift. It seemed forever before the lift opened onto the requested floor and she took off at a dead run, trying her best to dodge the occupants of the floor without knocking them down. As she came into main engineering she felt her feet halt under her and used the wall for stability as she saw Lenara encased in the orb.

"well... this isn't good" she muttered more to herself than the rest of the team

"Great!" Tes muttered as the creature dropped through the floor. Vanquax took off for the turbolift at a run, streaming security personnel behind her. It seemed like a good idea to Tes. She took to her heels, pounding after the others.

"I guess we waited too long!" she called to Sh'Talh as she passed the Andorian.

They all arrived at Engineering on each other's heels. Elen stared in horror as an engineer was engulfed by the creature, energy swirling and sparking off her. "I call that hostile," she said. Her eyes flickered over the warp core, protected by the sheen of a force field. Of course. That was what it was after...the power.

She ran to the nearest console and began punching in commands. Her overload idea probably wouldn't have worked, she realized, not if it was drawn to something as powerful as the warp core. Clearly, it could handle as much energy as they could throw at it. And if they wanted to get it off their crewmate, maybe that's just what they needed to do.

She raised the power levels within the console by two hundred percent, until it thrummed with power. It wouldn't overload...at least not if she didn't leave it like that for long...but hopefully it would be lit up like a roman candle to this thing's senses. Anything to get it off the engineer. And away from the warp core.

Tes backed up. "Come on," she muttered. "Dinner." She had no idea what to do about the creature even if this worked. At that point, she guessed, it would be security's problem. And, as she was all too aware, this was only her best guess. She had no idea whether this would draw it or not.

watching Tes work at the console her mind began to put two and two together. quickly running to her side she looked over the console and nodded at the female.

"Good thinking... but now to REALLY get it's attention" she said and pulled out her phaser and set it on stun, keeping the level low. After all, she only wanted to get it's attention.

"If we hit it with a solid blast, we may be able to draw it's focus to the console's offering of energy... but like you, I'm not certain it will work" She said as she looked around the room hoping she was right as she raised her arm and pointed the phaser at the glowing orb.

Engineering was lit up like a dance floor, the unknown creature radiating light and energy contending with even the warp core. Her antennae were picking up every crackle and hum, bringing her attention to the console that was now an enormous source of power. She heard VanQuax speak out:

"If we hit it with a solid blast, we may be able to draw it's focus to the console's offering of energy... but like you, I'm not certain it will work"

Instantly she threw her arm up. "Wait! Don't hit that thing with anything until it releases her! If you make it stronger it might kill her!"

She looked to Lenara, who was looking more pale by the second and realized something. "I think we can make this console more tempting. Everyone stand behind it, but keep a reasonable distance. If you have a phaser, charge it. When it gets to the console, back off, and power down phasers! It obviously sees us as a food source as well, so let's amp this up as much as we can."

And after that? She thought to herself. Well... We'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
