Xavier Croft
Near Mars
Stardate 47504.9
Croft checked the distance of his left wingman.
"Toran, your too close, your distance should be 2 meters!"
He could hear the cadet grumble under his breath. They were doing formation drills in the Academy training fighters. Croft was squad leader, and they were expected to do some formations for the graduating class next week, if they could pull their act together.
"Synchronized roll, port side to heading 215, on my mark, three, two, one, mark!"
Croft smoothly began has roll, only to hear collision warnings sound. Toran had rolled to starboard. Croft had just enough time to swear loudly, then the small fighter was slammed violently off course. His fighter slammed into Hernandez who was flying on his starboard side. He blacked out for a moment, and when he came to the cabin was filling with smoke, multiple alarms blaring.
"Emergency transporter offline. Inertial dampeners offline. Deuterium leak detected."
The fighter was spinning out of control, heading for Mars. Croft tried to open a hailing frequency, but was getting no signal. He could feel heat building behind his seat, the glow of flames began lighting the cabin. He coughed as his fingers flew over the controls, trying to at least level out the ship before he hit the atmosphere. He let out an involuntary scream as his back began to burn. He gave up trying to control the ship, and tried diverting transporter control through the secondary systems. By the time he was able to get a lock, he was out of range of the space dock. He locked on to the nearest Starfleet signal he could find, and activated the transporter.
He only knew it worked because he woke up in a sickbay two days later. He had transported into some Commanders quarters on the surface. He had 3rd degree burns on his back and shoulders, 2nd degree on his arms. It was weeks before he was released back to duty. Toran's ship exploded before he could beam out, Hernandez had escaped with only minor injuries. The other two cadets in the formation had been able to get out of the way. The medical team had been able to reconstruct his muscles, but the scars couldn't be completely removed. _________________
