|
|
My third character is going to be a member of the Ab-Loraben species, to show the differences between the three subespecies.
I had thought of having em be a Counselor aboard the Guardian, but seeing I'm a professional philologist, and the fun I'm having just thinking about the way the Hartington computers would translate the Lorabyn pronouns, I am now thinking of applying em for the post of Language Specialist / Linguist.
I guess that Star Trek linguistics must be somewhat boring (considering the existence of the Universal Translator) but I think it could be a very interesting character (considering the kind of culture and personality Ab-Loraben tend to have...)
So, what do you think, folks? Should I go for it...? |

I think that would be ok, but would you have more fun breaking that mold and working a totally different character? I'm not by any means saying something that should sway you, but offering my take.
From Uvek I went to Daniels and from there to Talbert. I used every aspect of my personality and divided them to be so distinct that I could have fun releasing each side and never clash within them. It helps keep posts fresh to me, and allows me to explore the full gamit of what I see as the "starfleet experience."
I like the Loraby and various aspects of it, especially your avatar, so I am by no means tired of learning of them. (I can't wait til Uvek meets Koa the first time....I have a little giggle coming).....
anyway, just a 2 cents input......

Actually I think a Linguist is still essential. Someone has to program the new lingos we will learn in the Gamma Quadrant. The translator is very good but only as good as the programing behind it (yeah it would be very simple to just let the Computer to take care of it and thats fine but there is some room for a character here as well.) Not to mention non verbal language.
As an example the mighty king Vorak says something that translates as 'get them water'. Later on he says the same thing but makes a slashing motion with his hand, and his royal guard drag us off to be drowned. _________________

I fully agree with McTavish.....a linguist would be a new take and a central character in the developing Gamma quadrant, whatever character you pick....good luck and look forward to seeing it! _________________

oh do be carefull with that. I did that with McTavish. He started as a frame, and then I broke out my FASA rpg books and made his character sheet while laying in bed. I had some but not enough. I went to sleep. Next thing ive got this voice in my head telling me all about his back ground. He still sits behind my eyes reminding me to check for updates every five minutes. _________________

I had a dream I was being chased by a T-Rex and I killed it with a phaser... Too much Star Trek, perhaps? _________________

Perhaps... I have been addicted to Final Fantasy XII for some days, and I have begun to dream of the Necrohol of Nabudis... |

Ah, XII is one of my favorites. Last time I played it I dropped a 'ribbon'. I was very happy. _________________

I had thought about applying for the Guardian, but with my new job... it seems it will be difficult to follow the plot in just one ship, so... I will apply to the Hartington with my third character.
Three Loraby in one ship... geez, it must be the Starfleet site with the highest number of Lorabyn staff. |

Last time I 'dropped a ribbon'.....well, let's just say no one was in that room for a while! _________________

That's it. You're demoted to 'Hartington pet squirrel.' _________________
