Task Force: Gamma

This will be the final log entry before joining the crew of the USS Hartington. I have spent the last two days in solitary confinement, using Vulcan techniques to pull my mind into fusion with my body, and prepare for what lies ahead.

Starfleet Intelligence (Admiral Dwyer in particular), has done a remarkable job in preparing me. Between the holodeck and focused training programs provided to me, I feel fully prepared for the tactical position I will occupy. The variable will be the crew. No doubt, we pose a formidable collection of races, experiences, beliefs and knowledge. Between us, we have explored or understand much of the Alpha Quadrant. But the Gamma Quadrant is something altogether new. It will take our collective experience, coupled with the discipline of a fleet mentality to face this challenge. But I am confident we can do it.

My studies have brought up memories and feelings I thought I had buried long ago, under the discipline of a secret keepers mind. But, Andorians, Klingons, Dominion and Cardassian, these will all be before me once again....hence, my solitude.

I must forget the past, focus on the now, and prepare for the future. I have come to understand that, despite our varied lives, we have a common thread...We are officers, members and allies of the United Federation of Planets, of Starfleet Command, and we have a job to do.
