****Stardate: 53772.5 location: Bridge AFTER the team meeting had discharged.

Uvek dipped his head in acknowledgement. "Thank you Counsellor Zeara," he replied, waiting for the turbolift to arrive. Something had passed between them. Something...He shook it off.

"I await your schedule." The lift arrived and Zeara was gone.

As the meeting breaks up.

Calodan caught Qech's attention as the meeting broke up. "Commander Qech, I'd like to discuss the team assignments for the upcoming mission with you if you have a moment." He watched her nod at him and keep her seat as everyone else left the room. While waiting, he took a moment to look his XO over again. As the only other Trill onboard, they shared an unspoken bond. As two people who had been joined unexpectedly, he suspected they could understand each other better then even they knew. As the last person filed out of the Conference room, he smiled and handed her another PADD, detailing crew members he felt would be helpful on the mission.

"Commander, I believe that it would be beneficial to take Lt Ghan along with Chief Blair on this mission. Lt Ghan's plan for lifting the wreckage will require a precise control on the tractor beams and Transporter Chief Blair is the ideal candidate to main the transporter controls in the second runabout."

Qech nodded as she looked over the PADD, happy to get the details out of the way right off the bat. She hated to let things linger, something she seemed to have in common with Calodan. In fact, she considered, she may just have more than work ethics in common with him. As XO she felt it was her duty to get to know the crew on a personal level. Calodan had struck her from the beginning as someone she might easily get along with. After a quick read she looked up from the PADD and set it down on the table in front of her.

"I think the engineers are a good idea, essential even. As for the, um, diplomacy part of the mission- if we're lucky that word will apply- I'm definitely going to need some security backup. I'll speak to Petty Officer smith and Lt. Uvek about that". She paused for a moment, biting her lip in thought (a habit she hadn't picked up until after she was joined). "I think my reservations for not wanting to include Petty Officer Koester on this particular mission speak for themselves. To be honest I don't want him within 50 kilometers of any Cardassian we're trying to reason with... Or any Casrdassian at all for that matter. Projectile weapons don't sit well with me".

She shook her head, as if dusting away some uncomfortable thought and continued. "I also think we could benefit from Ensign McTavish's experience with... well, everything". She laughed. "Bridge Watch officers are a nice jack-of-all-trades".

"I agree with your reservations about PO Koester. His particular skills wouldn't be a good fit for a diplomacy mission. As for Ensign McTavish, I had the pleasure of watching him work while you were down on the surface. He is a very competent pilot and would be an asset."

He paused for a second, going over the specifics of the Commander's report from the away mission.

"It is times like these I wish the Marines hadn't been transferred off ship. The diplomacy portion of this mission is going to be, for the lack of a more descriptive word, difficult. I would normally suggest phaser armor or a hazard suit, but against arrows and knives they would be of limited use."

Koester nodded to Uvek: "Yes sir. I will speak to the counselor. I have endured a great personal loss at the hands of the Cardassians. I will seek the counselor as soon as I can. I will assign Petty Officer Reese (OOC: the Siege of AR-558 character) to Dr. Kiv. He is an extremely skilled security operative."

After that he filed out to meet Counselor Zeara. He stood outside the counselor's office and hit the touchpad to ring the chime...

Stardate 53772.5 - Bridge:

Uvek watched his Master at Arms exit the bridge. He shook his head as things pulled together for the upcoming mission. PO Koester was a good man. If he can pull out of this he will be an extremely effective leader in the security of the ship. Well, in time.

The runabouts were under repair. Lt. Calodan and Commander Qech were assembling their crew, and nothing showed on sensors. Good. Time to get some rest. He wasn't feeling particularly good right then. As the night watch took the bridge and the captain moved off to attend to his own, he left for his room.

Maybe some sleep would ease this odd feeling in the pit of his stomach.....

Just prior to that, however, he moved to the conference room with a PADD in his hand.

He hit the door chime, and waited to be invited into the meeting.

Qech was about to respond to Calodan when she heard the chime to the conference room.

"Enter" she said, looking up toward the door.

Uvek walked in and joined the two officers. He nodded to Commander Qech and Calodan, and laid his PADD on the table as he sat down.

"Commander, lieutenant," he said, "Forgive me for intruding. I thought I'd let you know of my preparations for your mission in the morning." he looked at his first officer.

"I'd like to offer my apologies for PO Koester's outburst earlier. I have dealt with the situation as best I can, and have ordered him to seek anger management. Furhtermore, I have assigned him to handle the onboard security. I don't think he would be advantageous on the coming effort." He looked at his information.

"With your permission, I would like to offer Mr. Smith as security team leader. I also have Ensign Robinson, Cadet Mavers and Cadet Sloan on deck. Despite the loss of our marines, they are capable security officers. We will see that they are armed with phaser rifles, and understand your mission." He leaned back and waited to see what his preparations would bring.

Qech smiled. "Any recommendations you make for a security force will be greatly appreciated, Lieutenant. I will leave that in your capable hands. Although, I hope you're aware that I'll be dragging you along with us as well. Kicking and screaming if need be." She grinned, and added: "Though from what I've seen that would seem grossly out of character."

She turned back around and faced Lieutenant Calodan, while being careful not to leave Uvek out of the conversation. "The Columbia will support the Willamette in bringing up the materials from the Planet's surface, since you'll be boasting a strong engineering team. For safety's sake, I'd rather keep a more combat-ready crew aboard the Columbia for when we make our decent to the surface. we'll assemble in the shuttle bay 0800 hours tomorrow. Is that agreeable for you both?"

After receiving their replies, Qech politely excused herself. "I need to speak with the Captain about something, if you'll excuse me. Get some rest, you both look pooped." With that, she made her way to the bridge, biting nervously on her lip the whole way.

Well, I had to face him sooner or later...

Uvek stood when the Commander rose from her chair. He was somewhat taken by surprise at her pronouncement. Yet, deep down he was satisfied. He was being accepted and molding in, despite years of training in just the opposite direction. Admiral Dwyer had done his work well the months that he had Uvek training.

"Lt. Calodan, have a pleasant evening." He said after Commander Qech had left the room. "I look forward to seeing you in action."

with that he left for his quarters and what would turn out to be a very restless night.

"She's right, we both look beat" he thought to himself. The two of them had just had the last 2 and a half duty shifts on duty. "Uvek has had it even worse then me, he was on the Williamette."

"Lt. Calodan, have a pleasant evening." He said after Commander Qech had left the room. "I look forward to seeing you in action."

"You too Mr. Uvek." He paused, making a quick decision "Oh, and Lieutenant, I'm working on setting up an off-duty, rankless poker game. I just want you to know that you're invited to play. I'll make sure that you know the whens and wheres. And don't worry, the first couple games will be an intro so you can get a feel for it."

The Romulan gave him a slight nod and left, presumable for his quarters. "What an interesting man," Calodan said to the room, before leaving and catching the next turbolift directly to his quarters.

(OOC: Scene will continue in the Main Scene thread entitled "There and Back Again" to be posted tomorrow, 09/25/09 [sometime after I wake up seeing as it's technically already tomorrow]

Anyone may start a Secondary Scene post for whatever reason. If you want to talk to the Captain I'll put up a post that will have him in his quarters. Other than that, have at it until I get the next scene up!)
