(OOC: To Commander Qech, Lieutenant Calodan, I suggest that you guys send Private Messages to each of the Players you're going to have involved in this particular mission.

To everyone, remember the posting guidelines in this scene. We're going to try to run the scenes on both Runabouts at the same time. Remember your character ID and your Location at the very least at the top of your post. Good luck!)

ACTION
Location: Main Shuttlebay, USS Hartington
Stardate: 53774.1

Inside the shuttlebay, several Engineering Techs put the final finishing touches on both Runabouts, preparing the small craft for their missions down to the planet. Overseeing the work, Tellarite Chief Engineer Ghan barks orders out to his team, making the most of the last few minutes before the mission's commander arrived.

"Corso, I need that conduit sealed off NOW, we're shipping out in less than 20 minutes and this Runabout WILL be ship shape and ready to fly or I'm going to build a keel for the Hartington just so I can haul you on it!"

Crewman Corso swallowed audibly and bend down back under the main cockpit controls of the Runabout Columbia. Lieutenant Ghan was clearly not in any mood to mess around this morning... thought that could have something to do with the fact he would be riding down to the planet on the very same Runabout in a half hour's time...

As the Engineers put the final touches of work on the Runabouts, the bay doors opened and in stepped the first member of the Away Teams to arrive.

STARDATE: 53774.01 - 0730 am - pre-mission security briefing
LOCATION: Main Shuttlebay
THOSE PRESENT: Lt. Uvek - CTO
Petty Officer Smith - Security Specialist
Crewman Sloan - Starfleet Security
Cadet 4th Class Mavers - Starfleet Security
Ensign Thompson - Starfleet Security

Uvek watched his men checking their 3E rifles. Handhelds had been handed out all around, along with tridcorders. No armor, though, which had a couple of them slightly concerned. He called them to attention.

"Gentlemen, our mission is simple. Protect the away team." he looked from man-to-man. "I have read your files and seen your training reports. You are ready. Mr. Smith, you're my number 1."

He brought up a 3D display of the landing site and possible encounter area, as assembled from Ensign Z'hrel's tricorder readings.

"Once the runabouts have cleared the debris from the irradiated site, we are going to track down, immobilize, and confront the remaining Cardassians. If Professor Kolar is telling the truth, there are only two, and their weapon systems should be disabled by the time we approach them, hence the lack of abative armor."

He paused, allowing his next word to gather their own weight. "However, these Cardassians, or Cardassian, may be surrounded by those subjects they have manipulated. That number is unknown. Therefore we are going to follow defensive protocols at all times. Phasers are to be set on heavy stun. Mr. Smith will take Cadet Mavers, and hold 10 meters apart on the right flank of our group. Mr. Sloan, Mr. Thompson and I will be direct security for Commander Qech and party. Watch for my signals, and be alert. Any questions?"

(ooc - Edited for Rank adjustments....if insufficient, please advise, Cap'n)

(I'd like to change these Cadets into something with a little more experience, Cadets are students, while these guys should be actual Starfleet active personnel, especially on a dangerous mission. I'm thinking a few Crewmen and a Petty Officer Second Class or maybe an Ensign? Let me know what you're thinking so I can add them to the crew roster as NPCs).

Smith smiled... FINALLY, he got to train a cadet. At last, someone in the Officer corps, who will learn as an enlisted man. That is what makes a good officer, thought Smith...

"Mavers... the rifle gets pointed down-range at all times, is that clear?"

"Aye aye sir."

"I'm not a sir Mavers, I work for a living. Learn that."

"Aye aye Mr. Smith."

Uvek pulls Smith aside as his remaining crewmen load equipment onto the Columbia.

"Mr. Smith, you and Mavers are going to be our shadows on this. I want the Cardassians to see just the three of us with Commander Qech and the medical staff until things get rough. Hold aside on our right until firing commences or I call you in, whichever is first."

Qech stepped into the shuttle bay to see Lt. Uvek and his company preparing for the mission. After tripple-checking that she had all of her gear in her shoulder bag, she approached her mission comrades. "Good morning, Lieutenant, Mr. Smith. I hope everyone had a good sleep. We're going to have to be sharp on this one."

She looked up at the Columbia, sitting docile in the expansive shuttle bay. They always looked so much bigger from the outside. "I'll be taking the helm for this mission. The Captain doesn't want to thin out the Hartington's flight crew if he can avoid it."

McTavish entered the shuttlebay with his away bag over a shoulder. He walked across the deck until he stood between the two runabouts. McTavish began examining theWillamette and then moved to the Columbia

McTavish moved away from the runabouts and approached Qech. "Good Morning Commander. Reporting for duty." The purplish, yellowish, green bruise running down McTavish's jaw and into the collar of his uniform could hardly be missed.

Uvek nodded in respect to his first officer. "Good morning ma'am," he replied. "My rest was...acceptable, thank you." He did not tell her he spent more than 5 hours in Vulcan meditation after his meeting with Ambassador Rolen, and actually hadn't slept at all. Still, he felt refreshed and focused.

"My team is prepared and experienced. Mr. Smith will be flanking us until we need him. If you'll excuse me, we will finalize our preparations for containing the Cardassian(s) should we get them onboard."

After her acknowledgment, he moved to the Columbia to see that restraints were prepared and his team was boarding.

Qech nodded to Uvek as he dismissed himself, and turned to face McTavish. Her eyes widened slightly even as he spoke.

"Ensign... What happened to your face?"

"I was practicing interspecies diplomacy with LT Korax, Commander. I stopped in and saw the Doc. Nothing broken, just some slight bruising. It looks worse than it is, it will in no way affect my performing my duty." McTavish grin was firmly back in place.

Uvek noticed McTavish speaking to the Commander. He smiled to himself, remembering last night's (this morning's) interaction with Korax. He had witnessed it in the lounge while he was visiting with the Vorta Ambassador. Tough customer McTavish, thought Uvek, entering the runabout. Korax wasn't the easiest man to get to know and, being a Romulan and so soon after the war, Uvek wasn't in a hurry.

"Crewman Sloan," said the tactical chief to his security man. Sloan stepped up from inside the runabout, standing to attention. "Here sir." he snapped.

"At ease, crewman." Said Uvek, watching his man assume parade rest. "Did you retrieve my Teral'n?" he asked.

"Yes sir, stored in the weapons locker, sir." replied the nervous crewman.

Uvek thanked him and dismissed him. Given what he knew of the planet's effects on technology, there was no way he would go on this mission without some form of non-technological backup. He moved deeper into the runabout and took a seat near the cockpit, attending to his screen so as to keep watch on the operation from the beginning. As McTavish walked by he nodded. "Ensign." he said by way of greeting.

Qech could not help but let an amused grin creep across her face. "inter-species diplomacy huh?... Let's hope this isn't a sign of things to come."

"No Commander. We worked out the diplomacy, next week we are working on the language barrier." McTavish returned the Commander's grin.
"Where you want me today Commander?"

Lt. Kantu entered the hanger, double and triple checking his gear. "Reporting for duty, Commander."

Calodan walked into the corridor, carrying a small away bag and several PADDs, which he seemed to be reading all at once. To the casual observer, he appeared to be very well rested and even chipper and bouncy.

"Good morning Commander," he said with a smile to Commander Qech. "Lt Calodan reporting for the away misison. With your permission, I'd like to take Ensign McTavish aboard the Williamette and begin preflight procedures and start entering in the data for the transport."
