Qech looked to Kantu as he reported in. "Morning, Lieutenant. You'll be on the Columbia today." She then turned her attention to Lt. Calodan.

"Good morning Commander. Lt Calodan reporting for the away mission. With your permission, I'd like to take Ensign McTavish aboard the Williamette and begin preflight procedures and start entering in the data for the transport."

Qech smiled as his obviously jovial disposition flooded the room. "Well you seem to be right as rain this morning. I trust you slept well enough." She gestured toward Ensign McTavish. "And permission granted." She looked about the shuttle bay, doing a quick head count of those around her and those she knew to already be on their respective ships. "Well, it looks like we're only missing Chief Blair. When she arrives we can get underway."

McTavish tossed a quick salute to the Commander before turning to LT Calodan. "Morning, Sir. Can I take your bag?"
As McTavish walked past the Columbia he saw Uvek nod and address him, McTavish grinned threw the Tactical Officer another quick salute and said,"Once more unto the breech, Sir."
McTavish entered the Willamette and moved forward to the command deck. He set the LT's bag on the co-pilot seat before stowing his own bag in the closest locker at hand. He pulled the d'k tahg from his waist and strapped it to his left leg. McTavish caught a ghost of a wisp of ozone as he sat and ran his hand lightly over the console. McTavish whispered "Hello m'lady." as he brought power online and began preflight checks.

Calodan handed his bag to McTavish, who also seemed quite chipper this morning. He'd have to ask him about that bruise later.

He followed the Ensign into the runabout, detecting the telltales of recent batttle damage and quick repairs. A quick pat to a bulkhead was his way of reassuring the ship that she would have less of a hassle this time around.

Making his way to the cockpit, he settled into an auxilliary position.
"Computer, reconfigure Aux Console one to Calodan Away Mission Spec 1 and run preflight checks on the transporters and tractor beam emitters." The computer chirped at him and the console shifted to a setup that was as close to perfect as possible for this mission. He noticed McTavish looking back at him. "Its an old trick I picked up. Spending some time with the computer to run scenarios and see what commands I might need, then arraying the console to work expediently for those commands. Helps me keep up an appearance of being good at my job." He smiled at the Ensign and got to work on his portion of the preflight checklist, checking over the tactical system. "Good, the torpedo module was installed and seems to be in working order. Any surprises out there and we'll have a saber or two to rattle."

Satsified that all was as it should be, Uvek ordered his men to take their posts. While they were stowing their phaser rifles and getting seated, he moved down the ramp to speak briefly with Commander Qech.

"Commander," he started, watching the Willamette's team assemble and enter the sister ship. "Something's troubling me about this situation. In reading your logs and listening to the audio account of Professor Kolar, I noticed something peculiar." He shifted position, to get slightly closer to the Commander for security sake.

"The aliens that attacked him and your team used very primative weapons. He insists that they have access to particle weapons, and that his fellow Cardassians have used them to shift the balance of power in the region. I find it curious that those weapons were not only NOT present, but no evidence of them was produced. Perhaps I am too used to intrique, coming from a Romulan Defense Forces background, however, something seems out of place here. It would not be the first time the Obsidian Order has manipulated others for the achievement of their goals."

"Well, Professor Kolar did say that they were using the weapons as a means to control the Hukana. Passing the weapons around would tip the Status Quo. Not to mention that Obsidian Order operatives are typically more than a little paranoid."

She looked up toward the ship and at the security crew assembling on the ramp. "If the Professor's story is to be believed, we'll find the weapons when we find the Cardassians. But I'm afraid that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Just the same, it's good to know you harbor a healthy dose of paranoia, Lieutenant. We're going to need to be ready for anything."

"Agreed, Commander." Uvek bowed slightly and moved up the ramp. Taking his seat, he awaited the departure of the runabouts.

He liked Commander Qech. She was a solid leader, and someone he had no problem following. He only hoped he proved to be such a leader himself. Years of operating on his own had nver truly given him the opportunity to know. Even in the year prior to the war, when he was operating with a support team, his department's security protocols precluded him from sharing information. Hopefully, he would pick up the necessary skills from working with this group of professionals.

Calming his breathing he eyed his team. If all went well, he thought, we would be back intact and with the Cardassians on board. IF NOT.......he shrugged those thoughts away, and focused on his breathing.

Chief Blair stepped into the shuttlebay, huffing a little as she jogged to a halt near the assembled group. She stood at attention in front of Qech, nodding to the XO as she spoke.

"Sorry, Commander, I'm not used to being selected for away missions... certanly not ones that require the use of a shuttle."

Her eyes moved from the Columbia to the Willamette and back again, then looked to Qech.

"Which one am I assigned to again, Sir?"

Qech smiled. "You're not late, Chief. It's just now 0800 hours. I'm guessing either everyone here is incredibly well rested or they never went to bed... In some cases I suspect the latter." She glanced over her shoulder at Lt. Uvek who had seemed very prepared for this mission... too prepared, in fact, for someone who didn't spend the last full evening thinking about his job. She smiled to herself at the thought.

And I'd be a total hypocrite to say anything about it.

She looked back toward Chief Blair and pointed toward the Willamette. "You're on Lt. Calodan's crew."

As Blair jogged over toward the shuttle and her awaiting crewmates, Qech quickly looked about the shuttle bay. Looks like we've got a full roster, she thought.

"Okay everyone! Time to shove off! Let's do this."

ACTION

With the crews of the Columbia and Willamette in position the mission began. The two vessels slid silently out of Hartington's shuttlebay, making their way downwards towards the surface of the planet.

The expert pilots maneuvered their vessels down into position, readying for the orders of their commanders.

Lieutenant Ghan sat in the co-pilot's position in the Willamette his fingers dashing across the controls preparing the Runabout's tractor beam. As the ship neared the mission site he looked over to Lieutenant Calodan.

"Tractor emitters are charged and ready, Sir. Awaiting confirmation from Columbia and the go order to lock on."

"Roger that Lieutenant." He activated the comm system and opened a channel to the Columbia.

"Williamette to Columbia. Commander Qech, Mr. Ghan tells me that we're in position for the tractor maneuver and he is ready to go at your signal."

Qech maneuvered the Columbia into place for the maneuver, increasing power to the inertial dampeners for a smooth stop near the Willamette. The ships comm system chimed in just as she finished balancing out the shuttle.

"Williamette to Columbia. Commander Qech, Mr. Ghan tells me that we're in position for the tractor maneuver and he is ready to go at your signal."

"You're a-go Lieutenant. I've synchronized our tractor lock. Anytime you're ready."

"Roger that Commander. I'm turning command over to Lt. Ghan for the interim of the tractoring procedure." He muted the comm line and looked at the Chief Engineer.

"She's all yours Mr. Ghan."

McTavish kept the Willamette sure and steady, her controls almost an after thought as McTavish used the navigational sensors to scan and rescan the course they were taking. He had been snuck up on once. He would do everything in his power to not allow it to happen again.

"Thank you, Lieutenant. Interfacing with Columbia's computer and activating tractor beam."

Ghan nodded and tapped out a sequence of commands. Through the windows of both Runabouts the blue beams of energy could be seen jutting forth towards the ground and wreckage below. The beams found their target, latching onto the aged metal of the Cardassian wreck. The Engineer tapped out a few further commands, followed by his own combadge.

"Ghan to Columbia, please boost power to your tractor emitters, I'm reading a sudden drop-off of grip from your beam."

"Acknowledged, Willamette. There's been a slight power drop off. Transferring power from shields..."

Qech's fingers danced across the console as she reconfigured the power transfers. "All set Lieutenant. We should be holding equal now."
