This is going to be interesting. A Romulan defector taking the controls of tactical operations for a Federation starship, armed with a Romulan cloaking device, and monitored by an active Romulan Tal Shiar operative.
My experience in the Tal Shiar leads me to believe that you're not just here to occassionally tweak the cloak! Federation engineers have gotten far more sophisticated since Jim Kirk stole one decades ago, and there seems to be little you can do, aside from watch which, I suppose, we are first trained for.
I will be interested to see how our two characters will interact, me being a "deserter", you being in the force that I have come to regard as penetrated and ineffective!
Let's think about a backstory, maybe get some of the crew thinking, too, and go from there.
Until then, accept this tlhei: If I find out you are sent to spy on this ship by those working with the Dominion, I will kill you myself.

Very interesting chains of logic there indeed. There is only one flaw: I'm not a member of the Tal Shiar. Merely am I a member of the Romulan Star Navy who has a background useful for the mission and experience dealing with Starfleet from the Dominion War.
On the other hand, I'm not opposed to some sort of back story and the potential of the complications that it will bring. |

I know the captain could probably advise you better, but there is a GREAT episode in TNG that was discussed with KantuByron in which Counselor Troi was kidnapped and taken to a Romulan Ship. I almost think it was called Kidnapped. Not sure though.
I mention that for you because it clearly demonstrated Fleet's contempt for the Tal Shiar and, in juxtaposition, the Tal Shiar's overriding authority in Romulan affairs.
