Location USS Guardian
Marek
Stardate 54370.3
Marek entered the lounge, noting several crewman were there, even at this early hour. He ordered a bowl of oatmeal and a raktijino, then found a table roughly in the center of the room. He was making every effort to be available to the crew. He had a Vulcan's attention to detail, he already new the names of many of the crew, but he knew that he needed a personal relationship to develop for the crew to function at their peak. So, even though he had spent the night meditating more than sleeping, he was here for what he planned was the first of many public appearances. He nodded to an Ensign he caught looking at him, smiling slightly. At first, it was a shock for people to see a Vulcan smile, but he had found the effort well worth it in the long run. Occasionally, the smile was even sincere. He sipped his coffee, mentally running through the list of things he had to do today. _________________

What the hell? Thought Ensign Daniels. I thought Vulcans didn't do that. In truth it creeped him out, but then again, senior officers in general creeped him out. Despite his self-professed desire to take a ship into deep space, he really never got into the Starfleet groove, as it were.
Daniels had spent the night carousing, as he often did, and ended up with a pretty young thing from Engineering. (She really was a thing, too, having ridges and nostrils where no young woman should, but managing to look pretty beneath it all). He had started as always in his quarters, to get the buzz going, then ended up with her in the lounge. The appearance of the captain reminded him that he had once again spent too long in the pursuit of happiness.
He nodded to the captain, then moved out of the room and back to his quarters. A soborol and a sonic shower, then to the bridge. _________________

Location: Deck 15 - Lounge
Reporting as: Lt. Commander Talbert
The commander entered the lounge a little behind the Captain. "Folgers, black." he told the attendant. Then approached the captain's table.
"May I join you, sir?" he inquired. _________________

Marek glanced up at the Commander, then motioned to an empty chair.
"Please, have a seat." He sipped his Klingon coffee as the Commander sits.
"I feel the need to apologize for my mistake yesterday, it will not happen again."

Talbert laughed. "No apologies required, sir!" he replied. "I was a lieutenant long before I got my last pip. Besides, I serve at your discretion." He received his coffee graciously, and looked back at the captain.
"I feel we are ready for departure, sir. Aside from a few senior officers and those we will collect from the Hartington, we have a full compliment." Curiousity passed his face as he sipped the rich black brew. "Any standing orders sir? I mean, aside from departure regulations." _________________

Marek looked at his Operations officer for a moment.
"Our primary mission in the Gamma Quadrant may be more interesting than first thought. We are being denied a proper shake down period. Much of the strain of that lack of on-ship experience will fall on you Commander. I trust you will notify me if you need assistance." Marek sipped his Raktijino. _________________

"Sir?" he queried. "I'm afraid I don't follow you. The refit may be done, but we still need shake-down. I mean, that is when we learn if the systems and people will mesh." He caught himself as the captain looked up. Of course, the captain all ready knew this.
"Sorry, sir." he apologized. "Guess that caught me a little off guard. May I ask what has changed?" _________________

Marek looked at the Commander for a moment.
"My point, is that we will be undertaking a potentially difficult mission while performing our shakedown, there will be no easy cruise for this ship." _________________

"Well, we are ready." countered the Ops man. "Shake-down or no, we can do it. I have experience on the Excelsiors and I love them. Solid ships with this newest technology should prove no problem."
He finished his coffee and looked up at the chronometer on the wall. "Well, sir, if you'll excuse me, I better get up on the bridge."
He stood to leave. "I'll see you shortly, sir." _________________
