This post will cover the many different places we can make recruitment advertisements for Task Force Gamma. Everyone is encouraged to add to this list if they can. I encourage you all to use this list to help expand our player base. As we grow in numbers (both Crew and Simulations) our experiences here will grow in turn. If you have a site to add to the list, simply respond to this post and it will be added.

Various Yahoo! Groups (there is a USS Hartington Yahoo account for everyone to use for this recruiting drive, the email is usshartington@yahoo.com with the password: hartington60253) including:

Good luck to everyone in their recruiting attempts. Remember, if you recruit a member and they stay with us for at least one (1) month, you will receive the Recruiter Award. Remember to have your recruit reference you in their application.

Recruiting for a Trek RP is HARD. It is difficult to convince someone that something that is as much work as doing RP can be fun.

Here are a few tips and tricks to get real life friends involved.

SPIN

Got a friend that is into Star Trek, but not writing? Spin it as more game like. Most ST fans I have met LOVE the concept of fan steered Trek, but RP just seems too nerdy to some. Present it as a "Simulation" and make it sound more officially.

On another side of the the coin, got a friend that is into writing and sci-fi but not Trek specifically? Spin Task Force Gamma as a way to practice and hone their righting skills with instant feedback from other writers. Mention the ability to practice writing good dialog (many writers have issues with dialog) and that everything done on the forums is immediately peer reviewed. Writers eat that sort of stuff up.

CAJOLING

This is best described as begging. The hard thing to do is get people in the door. Once they are in, they are usually hooked. ESPECIALLY as we get multiple ships rolling where things are constantly active.

BLACKMAIL

This is probably the easiest method to pull off. Remember that incriminating photo? Or how about the time that your friend got drunk at that party and did that thing? If all other methods fail...let slip that you still remember those events and that you're more then willing to post that to their twitter/facebook/myspace/workplace. It takes amazingly little armbending to convince folks sometimes.[/u]

This evening, I went through and posted to all of the Yahoo groups listed. Let's see if we can get some new players in!

/crosses fingers.

If the good doctor can in fact get some of his friends into the game we may have to open up a third sim just to accommodate the people. Let's hope that's so because I'd rather have a flood of folks coming in and need to open a new game or two rather than have not enough for the ones we want to run!

Well done Mr. Calodan.

Seeing as I unofficially took up the mantle of doing some recruiting, I was hoping to poke at the Task Force and see if anyone can drum up some support from friends or family to join up with us. With Star Trek: Online coming out and the buzz still high from Star Trek 09, there is a renewed (sometimes latent) interest in Trek and getting some fresh blood into the Task Force would be awesome!

It's been tough going, all of my friends like to hear about it or read the posts but no one seems to want to get involved. I hope others are having more luck and with the new year we may be able to get some more folks involved.

Lets just say I got my girlfriend interested again. I brought up a character in the book I am reading (T'ryssa Chen from Greater then the Sum) and it seems to have peaked her interest. I'm doing gentle nudging and letting her develop a character at her own pace.
