Uvek watched the two men leave the bridge. He walked past operations and resumed his position at the tactical post. Things had certainly progressed quickly. Perhaps he was out of line leaving his post, but as Chief Security Officer his post was the Hartington itself! No, he decided, these things happen. They are training moments, learning experiences and necessary for the growth of the ship.

He looked at his information. The Guardian was a day away, the ship was secure. It had been a long day and his shift was technically over. Another tactical officer approached his station, standing by to relieve him. He shook his head. He needed a moment to speak to the captain who also, no doubt, was tired from the day's events. He decided to stand his ground and wait.

Staying by the Commander's side she watched as the Doctor ran the scans on both the Trills.

"I'm very tired though. The counselor has been keeping me awake."

She returned the woman's smile and then looked to Calodan. He seemed a bit upset, but it was more a feeling of annoyance than anything else. As he unfolded the story of what had transpired to lead him to be in sickbay she couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at it. It wasn't a very common emotion for her race, but it was something she'd picked up during her life on Earth. Shaking her head slightly she looked back down at the Commander and patted her hand in a gesture of comfort.

"Would you like me to go? I'm sure you and the Lieutenant here have many things you'd like to discuss. I can always set an appointment for you once the doctor releases you, even if it's just to have a shoulder to cry on."

"I don't want to keep you all day. I'll make sure to set an appointment, though I'm not used to talking about these things." She sighed. "And I do have a lot to discuss with Lt. Calodan." She looked up at the Counselor as she stood. "Thank you for everything."

Calodan looked at the Counselor "I'm sure I will be calling you at some point in the coming week for someone to talk to."

She stepped away from the trio and looked over the information she had collected from Calodan. Qech'll be alright, I'm sure of it. She's made friends connections here and the Counselor will be helpful. As she looked over the data on her console she tapped her combadge.

"Doctor Kiv to Captain Brennon. Commander Qech has regained consciousness, on her own I might add. She's being received by Mr. Calodan and Counselor Zeara. She'll be ready to see you whenever you're ready, sir."

"Understood, Doctor. Thank you."

Kiv nodded, entered a few commands into the computer and stepped back over towards Qech and Company. She smiled as she approached and directed her next comment towards Lieutenant Calodan.

"I've noted your condition in the ship's log, Lieutenant. I can find nothing wrong with you, excepting the stress on your system... which I would assume is from the news of your Homeworld... In anycase, I don't see any reason to keep you here any longer than you want to speak with the Commander. As of now you're back on Active Duty, Mr. Calodan."

The Captain stepped into his office, followed shortly there after by Ensign McTavish. He proceeded to make his way behind his desk and locked his eyes on the Ensign. For long seconds, nearly a full minute, he watched the young Officer. His face was neutral, betraying none of his thoughts raging below the surface. After an eternity he spoke up.

"Tell me, Mr. McTavish... are you a medical professional?"

McTavish instantly flashed on the first aid training all Star Fleet personel were required to maintain and keep up to date. But decided the Captain wasnt in the mood and that definitely wasnt what he wanted to hear.
Still ramrod strait McTavish answered simply, "No Captain."

Straigtening her uniform as she stood she nodded to the Commander. "You know where my office is. And you're very welcome, I look forward to seeing you on your feet again." she said

Calodan looked at the Counselor "I'm sure I will be calling you at some point in the coming week for someone to talk to."

"I am here when you need someone to talk to Lieutenant. Until then," she looked down at the Commander again "rest and regain your strength Commander" she looked back up at Calodan "Lieutenant"

With that she nodded at the Doctor and left.

The Captain's brow furrowed, his gaze set on the Ensign.

"You're sure? Beyond Starfleet Emergency Medical Training, you're not a Doctor or Mental Health professional?"

He nodded and continued.

"Then can you please explain to me how you had the medical reasoning to relieve Lieutenant Calodan from active command of the Bridge?"

"As I noted in the Official Log, LT Calodan appeared to be experiencing the beginnings of shock.
I Surveyed the situation on the bridge and the lack of other command personel on the bridge.
I relieved LT Calodan and immediately called for LT Woods to man Operations.
I assumed command to keep a strict unbroken chain of command.
I made no orders outside the Captain's Night Orders which, had not yet been changed for First Watch."

LT Woods was fully within rights to relieve me at any time but did not do so, went unsaid, painfully, but unsaid.

McTavish could almost see the rope he was hanging himself with the longer he talked. Also unsaid but at the forefront of his thoughts, "I will not regret this, no mater the punishment."

He watched McTavish for a moment as he explained himself. As the Ensign finished the Captain just nodded.

"I will not regret this, no mater the punishment."

"Nor should you, Mr. McTavish. It shows an initiative that may well take you far in Starfleet... however you shouldn't have had to wait for Lieutenant Woods to relieve you, you should have stepped down. Consider this a learning experience, Mr. McTavish. Nothing will go in your record, it will not reflect this discussion... however I do have an idea..."

The Captain paused for effect, hoping that it would psyche out the young Ensign.

"After we've finished the crew transfers with the Guardian, I'd like you to report to the holodeck. I'll administer the Bridge Officer's Test to you. Should you pass I will see about putting you on the Bridge during Gamma Shift. You're dismissed, Ensign."

As the Captain stood there alone in his office with his thoughts once again his mind turned to his First Officer. He was about to tap his combadge to ask for an update when the device came to life on its own.

"Doctor Kiv to Captain Brennon. Commander Qech has regained consciousness, on her own I might add. She's being received by Mr. Calodan and Counselor Zeara. She'll be ready to see you whenever you're ready, sir."
David took a deep breath and nodded. Thank you...

"Understood, Doctor. Thank you."

With that he stepped around his desk and out onto the Bridge once again. He nodded to the Officers manning their stations as he made his way towards the turbolift.

"Deck 7."

The lift hummed for several seconds, eventually depositing him on the same deck as sickbay. He made his way down the corridor towards his destination, nodding to crewmen along the way. Things seem to be settling down he thought to himself as he stepped into the medical ward. Doctor Kiv met the Captain and briefed him on Qech's situation before allowing him to step up to his First and Second Officers. Brennon nodded to Calodan.

"Lieutenant, whenever you're ready, the Bridge is yours."

His eyes then turned to Qech, a smile forming on his face.

"Commander... how are you feeling?"

Qech tensed slightly when she saw the Captain enter the room.

It looks like everything has come to a head. I wasn't expecting for him to have to find out like this. She sighed. What's he going to say?

"Commander... how are you feeling?"

Qech smiled faintly, considering the question. How did she feel? She decided a truthful answer would be the best way to go. One can only pretend so much, and she knew he wasn't blind enough to believe any of it.

"Well, like I've been hit by a brick, Sir. Dr. Kiv has relieved me of duty for the next 48 hours." She looked up into his eyes. Her own were burning as she spoke. "Sir, I'm really sorry about this."

The Captain waited for her reply, looking down at his wounded friend... and she was his friend after all. They may have only just met recently, but she knew everything about him. It's the least I can do.. He watched as the tears welled up in her eyes as she spoke.

"Sir, I'm really sorry about this."

His head shook from side to side as she said this.

"No, no... you don't have to be sorry for anything. What you need to do is rest, recover. We'll take care of everything."

As he spoke the last line he put a hand on Calodan's shoulder, gasping it tightly for a moment before letting go.

"We can get by for a few days. If there is anything you need..."
