Loráb: n. A system in the Alpha Quadrant. Joined the United Federation of Planets in 2370. Lorabyn Cadets entered Starfleet Academy in 2374.

Loráby: adj. from Lorab.
n. the three sentient species which inhabit Loráb: the Loráby proper (the Loráby li-Loráb, in Lorábyn), the Zéthny (the Zhéthny Lorábige) and the Ab-Loráben (Loráby Ab-Loráben)

Loráby, Loráby li-Loráb: n. the most populous especies in Loráb, and the one leading Lorab's opening and acceptance into the Federation.

Zéthny, Zhéthny Lorábige:: n. the second Lorábyn species. Whereas Loráby are calm and detached, Zéthny are detached and focused. Zethny cultivate the martial arts and are thought by most Loráby as 'the warriors'. The singular form is 'Zeth'.

Ab-Loráben, Loráby Ab-Loráben:: n. the third Lorábyn species. Ab-Loráben are said to be haughty and detached, and have some psychic skills. They are usually thought of as 'the (vulgar expletive)'. Ab-Loráben tend to be xenophobic and highly protective of their culture and traditions. The singular form is "Lurwab", as 'Ab-Loraben' is a collective noun.

Lorábyn: n. the Loráby language.
adj. related to the Loráby.

Sofóil: n. a Loráby farm animal, similar to a pony-sized garden snail. Sofoil milk, a white and thick concoction of the animal's mucus, is much enjoyed by the Loráby. Its taste is somewhat difficult to describe, being similar to a highly sugary syrup with a touch of cinnamon and sage, as well as a particular aftertaste not easily described.

Ten Thousand Schools of Thought: Period of Lorábyn history during which as much as several hundreds schools of thought, each of them with their private army of mercenaries, ruled Lorab though puppet regimes, political manipulation and philosophical debate.
The Ten Thousand Schools of Thought period came to an end soon after Jamaal's famous book on politics, "Dáram Áshim" (Close Watch would be an imprecise, but adecuate translation), was published.

Notable events of the Ten Thousand Schools of Thought include: The Bazaar of Thought (which was a pavillion, in neutral ground, where leaders of the Schools came to debate openly) and the Burning of the Magistrates (an event that closed a terrible skirmish between two Schools known as the Bamirites ("Through passion to knowledge") and the Takrirites ("An ounce for an ounce"). The Bamirites had raised a huge bonfire, in which they proceeded to burn the books written by their Takrirites rivals. The next day, the Takrirites proceeded to raid the houses of the Bamirites, and burnt both their books and the authors of such books ("So no more of their lies will be ever printed")

The Assembly, one of the Ten Thousand Schools of Thought, was able to be one of the leaders of the movement that put an end to this period of strife, thanks mainly to the efforts of their Lorábyn, Zethny and Ab-Loraben scholars.
The Assembly, one of the few Schools of Thought where members of the three species worked together, became two centuries later the seed of the Lorabyn planetary government.

Dáram Áshim (also known as "Close Watch"): book on ethical politics written by the Lorabyn philosopher Jamaal balim Koan. One of its most famous phrases is quite similar to the expression "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer". The Dáram Áshim was a key text to end the Ten Thousand Schools of Thought, and it is still considered a Classic.

Awras Tanáys: (English: The Ingrown Flower) A traditional Lorabyn board game, played by at least two players, but ideally by four. In Lorabyn culture, its status is similar to that of chess, checkers, go or mandala. It is a game played by adults, but children can also play it, and usually do, as it improves several skills.

Ensign Azmay has decided to try to teach the crew of the USS Hartington to play, and eventually enjoy, this game.

Lul'awlar: A musical instrument, very popular among the Zethny. It's about 1,80 meters tall, and sounds and looks somewhat similar to a hybrid of a mandolin and an harp.

Tidhal: A Zethnyn weapon. A Tidhal looks similar to a Persian shamshir (a type of scimitar), but its blade is longer, as Zethny are taller than Humans. Unlike a scimitar, a Tidhal is a two-hand slashing weapon. They are extremely sharp, so sharp that there are Tidhals rumored to be able to cut in half a single hair as it falls to the ground.

Tidhalkag: A Zethnyn weapon. A one-hand version of the Tidhal; slightly shorter and lighter.
