Character: Captain Brennon

The Captain sat in the command chair on the Bridge of the Hartington, chatting away with Commander Qech as the other alpha shift Officers went about their daily business.

"... so when they brought me into the lecture hall I had no idea that my mother was giving the seminar. Sexual behaviors of the pre-warp Orions."

Brennon cringed as he told the story. A few of the junior officers around chuckled at the notion, overhearing the story their CO had meant for everyone.

"Let's just say that I was keenly aware of my mother's class schedule from that point forward."

(OOC: Go about what would appear to be daily activities. Once a few people have responded I'll start the real action with an ACTION post.)

Qech leaned her elbow on the arm of her chair, resting her chin in her hand and smiling with genuine amusement as the Captain told his story. She didn't want to bring up the fact that she'd heard this one before. I think sometimes he forgets , she thought, trying very hard not to laugh as he went on.

"Oh that sounds..." She couldn't help it. She just started laughing. "Well, since I have met your mother I'm just going to say that I understand how painful that must have been."

Brennon snapped his fingers, once again remembering only after the fact that his First Officer carried the memories of his late wife. It had become easier as the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months. They had all developed a fine working relationship, a smooth quality that helped to define all starship crews. The Captain laughed as he replied to Qech.

"That's right, you have. Well, then you have to feel bad for me."

He turned in his chair and looked to the front of the Bridge. Still chuckling a little he addressed his Helmsman.

"Mr. Croft, how long until we reach System G-97?"

Uvek smirked as he overheard the conversation between his captain and XO. Sometimes he blessed his ears, sometimes he cursed them. In this case they were just another source of unwitting eavesdropping, which had in the past served him well, but not at the moment.

"Ensign Phell," he called to his support officer, "Can you give me a rundown on the latest tactical analysis of the shield modulators?" Phell nodded and turned back to his console, intending to forward info to his Department head. It was turning into another uneventful shift, one in a long series of tactically boring ones at that. But, thought the Romulan, boring was good.

Calodan smiled at the Captain's story. A lecture on sex from one's mother was never appreciated, especially in front of one's peers.

Ops was quiet, not much going on. Engines were running at 97% efficiency, a number that he and Lt. Ghan had worked very hard to get as high as it was. With one hand, he reached up and scratched at his beard, a new addition in the convening months. He had decided to grow it in, an old family tradition to honor the dead. The situation on Trill had claimed several people and symbionts close to himself and past hosts and he had spent some time mourning.

Character: Commander Qech

Qech shook her head as the Captain finished yet another familiar story. It was nice to hear them again though. It made her laugh, something that had been a precious rarity since the news of her fiance's death on Trill. The healing process was hard, to be sure, but was going as well as she could really expect it to go. She had the support of the ship's counselor, as well as the good friends that some of her fellow bridge crew had become; The Captain, Calodan and Uvek, to name a few. She had come to look forward to her morning shift on the bridge as both a distraction from her sadder thoughts, and a means of cheering up.

With a sarcastic smile she reached over and put a hand on the Captain's forearm, stopping him in mid-sentence. "Sir, I never thought I'd say this... simply because it makes no logical sense, but... All your talking is making me thirsty." She laughed, and got out of her chair, crossing to the back of the bridge toward the replicator. On her way past Calodan, she stopped to "admire" his new beard.

"Oh, that looks itchy. Growing them in is always the worst part." She stopped at an odd look from one of the ensigns. "I've been a man before. I wasn't talking about my personal experience, Ensign. Enter something into your console will you..." She turned back to Calodan, shaking her head. "Ensigns."

McTavish sighed as the boat rocked and bumped the cyperus tree to his right, The odd currents where making this more of a challenge than he was looking for but that was the point.
McTavish could see the lichen covered pool just ahead. McTavish dropped the anchor up front and drove the spike down into the soil to the rear. He waited until everything settled, then moved to the front locker and pulled out first the shotgun, the computer had odd ideas about what fauna to add to the program, then his rod and reel. It had taken awhile to get all the ratios correct and proper, not to mention getting the line right. McTavish had found a few programs he could have used as a base but he was enjoying the trial and error of building the program from scratch.
McTavish turned to another locker and pulled out a case of lures. He laid it on the forward deck. making sure everything was sealed, he opened the case. Not sure what the computer had selected for today, McTavish choose a multilegged creepy crawly bright red on top and shiny black on the bottom.
McTavish tied the lure and with a deep breath made his first cast.

Ensign Azmay stood in Sickbay, working on es report on anatomical differences between Loraby and Humans. E had heard rumours about a Zeth having joined the Hartington's crew. E felt curious, but not particularly in a hurry to meet er. Loraby and Zethny were cousins, but tended to disagree about many things.

E also thought about what was happening in Trill. Civil war was always a disaster, making people lose beloved relatives and friends. The Lorabyn culture had had its share of civil wars, and it seemed it had learned from its mistakes...

Koa Tanay asked the computer to begin. E stood in the middle of one of Lorab's deserts, the Great Swar, a tidhalkag in each hand. E wore traditional Zethnyn clothes, not er Starfleet uniform. Every centimer of es body was in the correct position. The training program began; a group of Swary Raiders (barbarian Loraby from the desert) appeared fifteen or sixteen meters away from the Ensign.

They began to walk towards er, cautiously; despite being holograms, the computer gave them a semblance of life, which made them look wary of the lone warrior.

E finished silently reciting the Warrior's Letany, and slithered towards er attackers. Soon, the holographic sand would run white with holographic blood. And the tidhalkagen and its bearer, Koa Tanay, the Snake Flower, would sing with joy.

USS Hartington Bridge
Lieutenant Xavier Croft

Croft tapped a few buttons on the console, he had been enjoying the Captain's story so much he hadn't really been prepared for the question.

"Captain, we should arrive in G-97 in approximately 6 hours at this speed."

Croft smirked to himself, the Commanders thoughts had been so open he had caught most of the thought about the Captain telling her the story before. He concentrated on his mental barriers for a moment. I really should practice with the Counselor, but she seems to be avoiding me He had asked her out to dinner, and although she had been very gracious, apparently it had been the complete wrong move, as she kept avoiding him. The only time he ever saw her for more than a minute was Jim's poker games.

ACTION

Suddenly, the Hartington rocks to starboard, lights flicker a moment then fail. Everyone on the ship feels a concussion wave hit them, like being struck by phaser fire. Crewmen fall to the deck from the combined force of the ship bucking to the side and the wave. Within moments, emergency lighting comes up, illuminating their world in an eerily dull red light.

Captain Brennon lifted himself up off of the deck and looked around the Bridge, a deep gash across his head bleeding down his face. With concern laced in his voice (and pain on his bloody face) he called out to his crew.

"Report...?"

(OOC: Check your PM boxes before responding to this post, you may have a clue to the incident.)

Qech's knees buckled beneath her as the shock wave hit, causing her to crash to the floor, along with the glass of water she was carrying back to her seat. Instinctively, she fell as to land on her side and not her stomach, allowing her to avoid any major injuries outside of bruising and carpet burn.

When the emergency lights came back on, her eyes darted immediately to the Captain, who was the first to speak. She could easily see the blood on his face from where she was. Stumbling back onto her feet and bracing a sore shoulder she ran for the dermal regenerator in the Bridge's emergency medkit and made her way back to the Captain, listening to the reports as they came.

Calodan drug himself up into his chair and looked at his console. There was a big spidering crack in the top left, where he had hit his head when he went over it. The throbbing pain and fast growing bruise on the left side of his head mathced the crack

"Captain, damage reports coming in now. We have a main EPS conduit rupture in Engineering. Catastrophic failures shipwide. Emergency power systems are slowly coming online, but most of the ship is without power."

Calodan paused to grimace and grab at his head and glanced at all the red lights on his board. This was not a good situation to be in. He transferred the info he had to the MSD and made sure the display's in the CO's and XO's chairs were updated. "Captain, I cant raise any other section of the ship. Comms are down." After giving his report he held his head between both hands. "Commander Qech, after you're finished tending to the Captain, I believe I have a concussion."

McTavish entered the bridge, thoughts that the Computer was trying to kill him at the forefront of his mind as he sat at one of the minor Science stations. McTavish and the Science Officer sitting next to him exchanged smiles and McTavish was about to say hello as a flashing indicator on the Science Station drew his attention.
McTavish tapped a command into the console. His eyes grew huge,"Captain! Tach-"

McTavish rolled to his stomach and pushed up off the deck, his left arm and shoulder screaming in pain. Gritting his teeth he moved to the science station.
"Sir, sensors detected a tachyon surge off of the port side of the ship, followed by the explosion. Sensors are out on the Port side. Correction, I think all Sensors out. A shock wave went outwards from the epicenter of the explosion but dissipated in power very quickly. Best guess at this time is that it acted like a mine of some type."

While giving his report, McTavish crawled to the Science Officer who had been seated next to him. A few lacerations and unconscious but pulse was steady.

McTavish turned from the downed Science Officer,"The Science Officer on Duty has been knocked unconscious and appears to have suffered head trama." He crawled back to the Science Stations and began opening panels. Sensors, right now all that mattered was getting Sensors back on line. With out Sensors the Hartington was blind.

Uvek picked himself up, immediately checking Ensign Phell, who appeared to be unconcious from impact on his re-breather. After motioning to an lower ranked engineer to help Phell, he lept to the tactical grid and quickly assessed the situation. Green drops hit the tactical display, and he was forced to wipe them aside to view his information.

"Captain, the ship appears to have been struck on the port-side warp nacelle by a spatial anomoly. I agree, it was possibly a mine or similar device!" He thumbed more switches on his flashing board. "Main power is off-line, and we appear to be operating on battery power. Shields and main phasers are down, and we have no power to restore them."

He leaned back and wiped his hurting nose. Blood was on his wrist from the action, and he was suddenly aware of the pain in his left cheek. No matter, he turned his attention to the tactical array, and tried to decipher the sparse information crossing his station.
