Captain Brennon cracked a little smile at the display. A caring Vulcan... who knew? He then tapped his combadge.

"Lieutenant Calodan, please report to the conference room."

Location: Conference Room, USS Guardian
Character: Commander Gaer

The Tellarite First Officer stood at attention in the conference room, awaiting his "fresh meat"... that is to say new Officers. The thought of terrifying the new junior officers made him grin... not a pretty sight to be sure as his porcine features did not lend themselves well to smiling. He looked down at his PADD and noted two of the new Ensigns, Kuplo and Walters. He tapped his combadge and called out.

"Ensigns Kulpo and Walters, please report to the Conference Room immediately!"

Ensign Walters was eager to prove himself worthy of his new rank as an Officer. Coming out of a jog, he stepped into the conference room.
"Ensign Walters reporting as ordered, Sir."

The gruff looking Tellarite looked the new Ensign up and down, sizing him up. He tapped a few commands into his PADD, looked over the information and then looked back to Walters, smiling once again.

"Walters, Garrett. Ensign. Recent Engineering Graduate. It has been my experience that Human Officers feel more privileged that the non-Humans of Starfleet... something about having been the 'leaders' of the Federation. I've also always thought that Humans made poor Engineers. You can see why I've had you transferred to the Operations Division until you can prove yourself! Do you think you can do that, Ensign Walters?"

Walters stood a little straighter. "Sir, my failure during my last mission on the Willamette is not an example of my capabilities. I will follow your orders to the best of my abilities, Sir!"

Garrett was still ashamed he wasn't able to figure out what was going on during the de-orbit, and worst of all he didn't even think to look at the scorch marks on the exterior of the craft post-mission. He was too much of a software guy. "It's not that I wasn't capable of more, its just that..." His thoughts trailed off.

Walters noticed his eyes were wandering with his thoughts, he focussed on the angry, or is it hungry, looking tellarite.

Gaer continued to play the tough XO, the gruff overseer to a point. His black beady eyes locked on Walters as he shot back.

"It's just what, Ensign?"

"It's nothing sir." Walters stared into those pearcing eyes of commander Gaer. "It's just that since that mission I've been wanting to prove that I can cut it, that I can make a difference. I was hoping that I may be able to 'start over' so to speak here on the Guardian."
Garrett shifted slightly. He was getting nervous speaking so openly, but he had to settle this. It was all he could think about. His first mission, complete and utter failure, so disgracefull.

Gaer nodded, understanding the Ensign's fears all too well. Maybe he'll do after all...

"You may yet get that chance, Ensign... Report to Lieutenant Commander Talbert, Chief Operations Officer. Dismissed."

I'll have to keep my eye on this one.

USS Hartington Conference room
Captain Marek

OOC Sorry weekends are a rollercoaster ride it seems sometimes

Marek looked at Brennon for a moment, and decided he should lay all the card out on the table as humans would say.

"Captain, the other reason I suggested this meeting is my orders. They are decidedly vague, to be blunt. My orders are to deep survey behind the Hartington, and defer to your orders. While we are of equal rank, you are according to Starfleet, my commanding officer." He pauses, "I believe it necessary to clarify what you expect of me, Captain." He sat stiffly the whole time, his Vulcan demeanor giving away little.

"Lieutenant Calodan, please report to the conference room."

Lt. Calodan turned his post on the Bridge over to a young Ensign and walked to the conference room. The doors whisked open and Calodan recognized the Captain of the Guardian and a youngish Trill Lieutenant.

"Lt. Calodan reporting Captain."

This was a bit of a surprise for Brennon, having only heard of the Guardian's assignment himself a few days out of Deep Space Nine. Admirals Akaar and Croft had mentioned that Hartington's mission would take the lead for future explorations but to assign another starship captain under him so soon... no matter. He looked squarely at the Vulcan and nodded.

"I see, Captain. We've already launched several long distance probes to scout around the areas we haven't been able to get to in person. My only suggestions to you at this time would be to proceed in towards the mass of probes we sent spinward after leaving the Wormhole. We're to proceed coreward, sending probes out as we go. The ultimate goals of our exploration is to fine suitable sites for future Federation and Allied colonies. I'll have my Science Officer transmit to you the courses and frequency of our probes and the data we've collected as of today. We'll also give you the tactical data we have on the only hostile species we've encountered thus far, the Tal'Harton. I think that should provide you with more than enough to start with for the time being. Our relay of subspace radio stations should allow us to keep in relativity frequent communications, though as we get further apart even the boosters on the relay stations may not be enough to mitigate the delay."

As the Captain finishes speaking the doors part and Lieutenant Calodan appears in the room.

"Lt. Calodan reporting Captain."

"Sir, I may have a solution that. I was conferring with Commander Talbert, the Guardian's Ops officer, and they are equipped with a very powerful subspace comm array. As long as we leave boosters every 10 or so lightyears, we should be able to stay in communication, with about an hour or so delay. They also brought along the compression algorithms that the Pathfinder project came up with to communicate with to communicate with Voyager in the Delta Quadrant. We should be able to relay messages back to Starfleet at least once a week."

Brennon nodded, impressed with his Operations Officer.

"Not bad, Mr. Calodan. Please extend my congratulations to Commander Talbert."

He stood and motions towards Lieutenant Toran, a little unsure of what to say next.

"Jim... this is Lieutenant Audrid Toran, Guardian's Intelligence Officer. Captain Marek thought that it may be helpful for the two of you to spend some time with one another, perhaps with Commander Qech... It's not an order, just a suggestion from a friend."

Brennon looked back over to his fellow Captain, as though looking for backup in the awkward situation.

Mehv walked briskly into the conference room. He had more confidence this time than when he first arrived aboard the Hartington to meet his commanding officers.

Arriving just a few minutes before on a shuttle returning from a supply run to the Hartington, he thought ahead to ask directions to the conference room. His orders were to report to a Commander Gaer. After working with the Lt Ghan, he hoped he had a reasonable idea what to expect with Cmdr. Gaer.

"Ensign Mehvra-Kuplo reporting sir!"

Marek nodded to Brennon, then glanced over as Calodan entered.

"Jim... this is Lieutenant Audrid Toran, Guardian's Intelligence Officer. Captain Marek thought that it may be helpful for the two of you to spend some time with one another, perhaps with Commander Qech... It's not an order, just a suggestion from a friend."

Marek shifted slightly, almost a fidget.

"Lieutenant Calodan, I would be grateful for any help.."

Lieutenant Toran

Lieutenant Toran walked over to Calodan and grabbed his shoulder,

"Perhaps we should leave now before they decide to sing a Vulcan death chant or some other odd thing." She whispered, a hint of a smile coming through the obvious distress on her face.

"Yes...Lieutenant." He shrugged slightly, as to remove her hand from his shoulder. "We could head to the Lounge if you'd like, and contact Commander Qech to see if she is feeling up to coming."
