Koa Tanay, one of Starfleet's first Zethny officers, if not the first, stood outside Captain Brennon's Office. E had slithered all the way from one of the Transport Rooms, having travelled in the USS Guardian from DS9. E had shown er credentials to the shocked transport operators (who surely hadn't ever seen a Zethny before) and had ignored all looks and whispered comments on er way from the Transport Room to the Captain's Office.

E had left er baggage, specially er beloved lul'awlar and tidhal in a cargo bay. E would move everything to er new quarters as soon as e got them...

E balanced er weight on er long, muscular tail, and strechted er arms and back. Er whole spinal column cracked, as er vertebrae clicked in place one by one. E felt better, but longed for the space to strecht erself as long as e was.

E leaned er head to the left, well knowing that er height tended to intimidate other beings -specially humanoids- and buzzed on the door's chime. E waited for the Captain to give er permission to enter his Office, and report erself ready for duty.

Koa Tanay wondered if something was wrong, as it had been several minutes, maybe even a quarter of an hour, since e had buzzed the door's chime. E decided to take the initiative:

"Computer, this is Ensign Tanay reporting for duty. Please locate Captain Brennon or... " -e tried to remember the name of the Chief Security Officer- "Liutenant Suran"

Captain Brennon sat at his desk in the Ready Room reading over some recent reports. At the sound of the chimes he looked up.

"Enter."

Ensign Tanay entered the Office, and stood in front of Captain Brennon's table. E stood uptight, outwardly serene, but deeply worried. What would be this Captain's first impression?

"Ensign Koa Tanay is being reported for duty, sir."

The Captain looked to the new crewmen with curiosity. After having served with Doctor Azmay for the past few weeks, Brennon thought that he would be used to the appearance of the multi-phenotyped Loraby... he was mistaken. He stood and extended a hand towards Ensign Tanay and bowed his head slightly.

"Welcome aboard the Hartington, Ensign."

Ensign Tanay looked at the extended hand as if it were some kind of strange animal, then bowed es head... and shook the Captain's hand.

"Thank you, sir, and please forgive it if it takes a while to get used to some of your customs. It is guessed that e would have to get used to all this shaking of hands that Humans find so important. If you don't mind, it is thought e would like to go to er quarters, and report to Liutenant Uvek, if you do not mind."

The Captain could check in Starfleet files that Loraby with female personae usually used the English pronouns 'e, er, er, erself" instead of "e, es, em, emself" - the ones used by Azmay. Others used the pronouns 'e, hes, hem, hemself'; Starfleet Linguists considered it reflected two Lorabyn points of view concerning sex and gender, which were changing due to Lorabyn interaction with sexed species. Also, there some thoughts on the Zethny's speech patterns, which were quite different to the Loraby's, to say the least.
