Qech approached Calodan the moment he walked in, a small package in her hand.

"Same to you, Jim" she smiled. Having known a bit about the history of the Calodan symbiont, Qech looked high and low for the composers listed on the data rod she made for him. She made sure to pick out music from the best Trill and human musicians alike over several centuries.

He took the gift and smiled, "Thank you Davynn." He handed her a wrapped package, containing a hardbacked book. "I hope you like it." He waited for her to unwrap it, then answered her quizzical look. "After everything that has happened over these last couple months, I'm sorry I haven't been around more for you to talk to. I don't know if you knew this, but one of your fian...Taj's former hosts was an author. He wrote two books for children, almost 150 years ago. I managed to get a digital copy of one, and reproduced it as faithfully as possible. I thought...your baby might enjoy it."

Calodan had packaged for everyone in the room, but this was a personal one. After the riots on Trill had calmed and the dust cleared, he had lost several family members and close friends from lives past, but nothing compared to the personal loss that Qech had to deal with. He felt slightly guilty, having survived the disaster on Trill, and had secluded himself from the rest of the crew some. He had even began the process of growing in a beard, something males of his Father's family did as an act of mourning.

Qech smiled warmly up at her friend. "I don't know what to say. I don't even think Taj had one of these. I remember he was trying to track it down but..." her eyes grew misty at the thought of her fiance. "I can't thank you enough for this." She looked down at the book, running her hand along the carefully bound cover. She really didn't want anyone to see her cry, so she took her time admiring the object, using the opportunity to try and compose herself again. When she thought she'd managed, she looked back up at Calodan and smiled. "The beard looks good. Itchy, but good."

He scratched his beard thoughtfully. "Ya, its a bit itchy. Old family tradition, when something bad happens, the men grow beards. Not sure what started it, but it felt appropriate."

Uvek saw Calodan and Qech exchange their "gifts" and waited for their exchange to conclude before approaching.

"Lt. Calodan. I regret I was unprepared for this event. I truly meant to excercise a purely personal belief and I am unfamiliar with Terran customs." He smiled at the Ops manager. "I must say, however, it has been a priviledge to serve with you thus far. The ship and its crew have performed admirably. I have particularly enjoyed your...unique solutions to problems."

"I have particularly enjoyed your...unique solutions to problems."

Qech laughed. "If I had my guess I'd say he's just making shit up." She grinned at Calodan. "And doing it well."

Calodan smiled at the Romulan officer. "Don't regret it Mr. Uvek. One of the great things about having lived through as many lifetimes as I have is that you get to experience many different types of beliefs, holidays, and rituals. You also learn what some of the best gifts are, and one of the best is friendship and comradeship. It is an honor to serve with you. Mhiohs Uvek and Happy Holidays."

Qech laughed. "If I had my guess I'd say he's just making shit up." She grinned at Calodan. "And doing it well."

"I'm offended Commander," Calodan said with an expression of mock disgust. "You should know that all of my solutions come directly from the Starfleet Engineering manual...at least from my copy. I may have added a few pieces over the years, but it is the job of Ops and Engineering to work miracles. Besides, you shouldn't complain, I'm the one that fixed your sonic shower remember?"

Uvek laughed at Commander Qech's comment, and listened to Lt. Calodan's response. He felt curious. There was nothing like this in the Tal Shiar. There was nothing like this in all of Rihanna. Yet, it was not uncomfortable, nor awkward. Despite having to finally come to grips with public display of his blessing, he knew it was all right. His custom, as with Lorab and trill and even Klingon, would be accepted.

At first McTavish had tried to contain it. He fought and fought. He slowly turned first pink and then red. He clapped a hand over his mouth. He sucked in great lung fulls of air, but it was no use.

McTavish began to laugh, deep belly laughs. Not hysterical but an honest expression of joy. He could feel the edge coming and thought he was going to be able to stop. But then the chair went out from under him. He hit the deck already laughing harder than before.

It was odd, but comforting, to hear people's laughing and having a good time. Things like this existed in Lorab, of course, but Lorabyn anatomy was not suited to laughing -not even to smiling, as Lorabyn smiles look like predatory gestures- and Lorabyn society tended to the cold and stiffened more than to the open and kind.

Unless you considered Zethnyn displays of camaraderie and Ab-Loraben wheels of hierarchy...

Azmay sat there, listening to es crewmates' chat, and feeling oddly comfortable.

"Earth had spear fishing as well. And I have several scenes that are exactly that. Does your world have any under water predators? On Earth there are Sharks. Sharks make spear fishing...interesting."

"Oh, yes indeed. There are plenty of underwater predators. There is this... thing -similar to an hybrid between Earth's shellfish and octopuses- called a karináy. Quite challenging."

Qech rolled her eyes. "Oh, how could I forget. How silly of me... My hero." She have him a sarcastic grin and clapped him on the shoulder with her unburdened hand. "Mr. Calodan. On behalf of each and every showered personnel on this ship... I thank you."
