Location: Runabout Columbia
Stardate: 53998.3

The Runabout Columbia awaits her crew, prepared for launch with an ample supply of provisions and trading supplies.

Professor Kolar stands waiting at the hatch to the smaller vessel, waiting for the team to arrive... and more than a little nervous about working closely with PO Koester...

Ensign McTavish
Location: Shuttle Bay, Runabout Columbia
Stardate: 53998.3

McTavish had rushed to his quarters, showered, jammed several uniforms into a bag and grabbed his away bag from under his bed. And rushed to the shuttle bay to be on time.

****

His ribs aching at the abuse, McTavish rushed into the shuttle bay. He approached the Columbia at a more sedate rate. He paused at the hatched and murmured a few phrases, before entering the Runabout.

"Hello, Professor."

McTavish stowed his gear and helped the Professor with his own, before looking out the hatch of the Columbia. Still no sign of Petty Officer Koester.
McTavish turned to the Professor,"How far away is this trading post?"

Professor Kolar looked as though he was carefully thinking to himself for a moment before answering the Ensign.

"If I'm correct with regard to our current position it should be about 15 Light Years from our present location. We shouldn't have a hard time finding it, once we get within a half dozen light years we should pick up their advertisement buoy."

McTavish was watching out the hatch as the other boats left the ship.
"Mr Koester. Mr Koester, where might you be?"

A message comes down from Lt. Woods, the senior Operations Officer left aboard ship.

"Mr. McTavish, we're having difficulty locating PO Koester. You're clear to proceed without him."

Professor Kolar looked relieved and he boarded the Columbia with a backwards glance at the Ensign.

"Looks like it is just going to be you and me on this trip."

McTavish sealed the hatch and moved to the Conn. Pre-flight checks were complete. Everything looked good. He moved the Columbia towards the shuttlebay doors. Comms cleared the runabout for take off.
"Hey Professor, Come on up to the Command Deck." McTavish turned in his seat. "Im going to make a pass around the damaged nacelle and we will be on our way"
The Columbia slid out of the shuttle bay and softy turned up and to the right. The damage was visible even from the far end of the nacelle. Pops and flashes from the work crews in the super structure showed the long work was in progress. McTavish murmured a phrase in Klingon and then entered the coordinates. The Columbia cut across the Hartington and entered Warp.

Kolar sat back in his seat after having observed the damage done to the Hartington. He winced as he saw the nacelle splayed open.

"It's almost unnatural. I hope that Lieutenant Ghan can get it up and running again..."

ACTION

An hour into the Columbia's journey a distress call is received from the Pike. The shuttle's call is traced to about 7 light years away. Professor Kolar turns to Ensign McTavish with a worried look on his face.

"Should we divert to aid them?"

"Yes Sir, We should and will. We had a long trip ahead of us as it was, a bit of a delay wont mater much. Changing course and increasing to Emergency Warp."
McTavish smile reassuringly at the Professor before turning back to the console and activating the comms. "Uss Harington this is Runabout Columbia. Have received distress call from the shuttle Pike. Deviating course to respond to distress call, unless otherwise ordered."
McTavish paused a moment, and then sent out another message, "Shuttle Pike this is Runabout Columbia. We have received your distress call and are in route. If you are able please explain the nature of your distress?"

The minutes ticked by and the tension increased. McTavish was doing his best to be patient, *what was the cause of distress? Couldnt have been another anomoly. The crew never would have had a chance to send the signal. Engine failure? Possible. Attacked? Possible, but not likely, knock on wood.*
"So thats the program Sir. Id be very interested in your concepts of fishing Professor. Of course anytime you would care to try the program feel free."

Professor Kolar smiled as the Ensign discussed the sport of fishing with him. He shook his head and felt around for the right words to respond with.

"To tell you the truth, Ensign, I'd be very pleased to join you fishing sometime. Cardassia Prime is a relatively resource poor world, fresh water being in very short supply so the idea of fishing for sport is lost upon most of my countrymen. You may not know this, but we typically drink hot fish oil in the morning... Back at the University one of my teaching assistants had a fresh pot boiled just the way I like it every morning when I came to the office. I've honestly never really given much thought to where the fish actually came from. It would be a most enjoyable experience."

ACTION

Minutes pass as the pair wait for the reply from shuttlecraft Pike with no response. All that came through the static was the repeating information of the shuttle's last known coordinates and the last several seconds of sensor telemetry.

Looking over the image for a third time, Professor Kolar shook his head and sat back.

"I'm sorry to say it Mr. McTavish but that ship looks very similar to the alien vessel we encountered several months ago during my rescue..."

ACTION

The Runabout begins to catch up to the Tal'Harton vessel, it is clear at this point that that the Shuttle Pike's distress call is coming from inside the ship. Professor Kolar shakes his head in amazement.

"Apparently they couldn't figure out how to shut off the shuttle's transponder."

Columbia's sensors pick up a faint beam being emitted from the larger vessel at a point only a few hundred kilometers away. Kolar looks over the sensor readings, his browline creasing (amazing for a Cardassian).

"Ensign, take a look at this... it looks like some sort of satellite or probe. I think the Tal'Harton vessel is trying to link up with it, it appears t..."

The Professor was cut off by a powerful wave in subspace rocking the Runabout from side to side. Right before their eyes the Tal'Harton ship nearly collides with the probe before being swallowed by the what can only be described as a hole in space. McTavish tries in vain to manuver away from the hole, as Columbia is pulled in.

"Yes Sir, I think your very correct." With a grim chuckle. "So we are now on a rescue mission."
McTavish moved to the weapons locker and pulled out two type 1 phaser. He handed one to Professor Kolar. "I hope we have no need of these but better safe than sorry."

"That or they just arnt worried about anyone hearing it and attempting a rescue. If you now anything else about the Tal'Harton now would be a good time to share."

McTavish had been monitoring the same sensors while scanning the Tal'Harton ship. Collecting as much data, as fast as he could. Shields seemed to be at a minimum and they had armed no weapons. Mctavish wasnt trying to analyze the data coming in but he did note the presence of one Human, one Vorta, One Trill, and One Romulan. The Pike appeared undamaged and the computer was locked out, all good as far as McTavish was concerned. McTavish finished up loading all the data to a long range probe, set to transmit a narrow encrypted data stream to the Hartington, and had just launched the probe when

McTavish mirrored Professor Kolar's look of shock. McTavish tried to launch a marker bouy but wasnt sure it went active before or after the Columbia was pulled into the Hole.

ACTION

Minutes pass as the Runabout Columbia passes through what appears to be a wormhole or some other sort of conduit through space. The stresses were almost too much for the small craft to bear, the computer warning the occupants of the danger all around them. Just as the ship seemed about to tear itself apart the passage released them, returning the Columbia to normal space. Ahead they saw the Tal'Harton vessel for a few moments before it warped off away from the Runabout.

Professor Kolar took a few moments to check and recheck the readings he was getting on the science console in front of him. He couldn't believe his eyes and had to check a third time before reporting to the Ensign.

"Mr. McTavish... we've just traveled nearly 150 Light Years from our previous position."
