"Well that was a bumpy ride, looks like we held together, barely. Ive got a lock on their warp trail so we should be able to follow." MCTavish turned to Kolar. The look on his face stopped McTavish cold.

Quote:

"Mr. McTavish... we've just traveled nearly 150 Light Years from our previous position."

Several moments of silence pass as McTavish sets a course to follow the Tal'Harton Ship, but not before launching a long range science probe back in the direction of the Uss Hartington.

"Well Mr. Kolar, it seems our mission is now three fold. Rescue the Pike crew. Find out how that portal works, other wise its going to take the better part of a year to get to the Hartingtons current location and i dont think the Captain is going to want to wait. Third, learn as much about this region of space as fast as we can and get that data back to the Heartington. Any questions or observations?"

Professor Kolar looks nervously towards Ensign McTavish. His hands shakily tap across his console before he responds.

"I'm not sure that trying to rescue them ourselves is the best possible plan Ensign. We collected a lot of sensor data on the pulse the Tal'Harton vessel sent out prior to the satellite opening the subspace corridor, I'm sure we could duplicate it. It may be prudent for us to collect whatever data we can on the enemy and return to Hartington before attempting a rescue."

McTavish turned to the Professor with a glint in his eye, "But just imagine the glory! An Ensign and a Civilian? A Cardassian and a Human? Swooping in and defying the entire Tal'Harton race? Ahhh the stories they would tell of our heroics!"

McTavish burst out laughing. "Im truly sorry Professor Kolar, you should see the look on your face. You, are of course correct. The longer we spend here in, where ever we are, the more of a chance we risk running into something big and nasty and not making it back to the Hartington. Thank you for reminding of my duty in this."

McTavish moved his fingers across the COMM panel. The lights dimmed and unused stations went dark.

"So we follow that ship a bit farther and see were its going. We go in with as small a power signature as we can make, and then we turn and run as fast as we can back to the Hartington. Sound like a more reasonable plan?"

Professor Kolar sighed with relief, a smile on his face.

"Ensign, you have no idea how happy it makes me to hear that plan. I'll monitor the Tal'Harton vessel, take in whatever data we can. When we return to the satellite we should be able to generate a deflector pulse at the same frequency the other ship did to open up the tunnel."

ACTION

The Runabout follows the alien vessel for nearly 5 light years before picking up a massive object, most likely the destination of the Tal'Harton ship. Within moments of detecting the object it becomes clear what it is.

"Ensign," came the voice of the Professor, "That looks like a space station."

Though he was not experienced in reading Starfleet sensors, the Professor was too correct. The Tal'Harton ship docked with a massive space station filled with thousands of life forms, an overwhelming percentage of which read as non-Tal'Harton... including one Trill, one Human, one Romulan and one Vorta.

"Well my friend, I was hoping for a planet, but no its a space station. Time to go. Well past time in fact. Ill drop a sensor probe, maybe they wont notice, and we are out of here."
McTavish brought the Columbia around 180 degrees and went to maximum warp back the way they had come.
McTavish knew he had been pushing his luck far to much on this mission, If only she would hold out just a little longer. The Computer was every moment collecting data that the Uss Hartington would need, not only for the rescue but also for the further exploration of this region of space.

ACTION

The Runabout emerged from the corridor, the vortex that had spirited them 150 Light Years away from their friends and home base. As they set their course back for the Hartington, another message came through the com. An automated message, from their Captain.

"Runabout Columbia, Hartington has restored low level warp power and we are proceeding to a friendly spacedock to resume repairs. We are transmitting the coordinates to you with this message. Once you receive this, you are ordered to make best speed to our location and from there we will mount a search for the Pike and our missing numbers. Be forewarned, there are hostile aliens in the vicinity of our destination. They appear to have lower levels of technology, but they still may pose a threat. Exercise caution Ensign McTavish. Hartington out."

Professor Kolar looks over to his companion and cracks a smile.

"Well," he starts, "At least we will be able to tell the Captain where the missing crewmen are."

McTavish grinned his best grin. "Exactly, And thats probably the only thing that will keep me facing a firing squad. Lets get home. Please keep scanning behind us. I dont want to lead unwelcome guests home." The Columbia headed at best speed towards the Uss Hartington.

*****

McTavish felt the tension begin to drain out of him as he saw the glint of sun off the distant starship. From this far out, none of the damage could be seen and the Hartington looked as beautiful as ever. He sat smiling lost in thought, missing the flashing indicators across his console. The gasp from Professor Kolar, snapped him back to attention. Warnings began flashing as the Columbia was locked on to by several different weapon systems at once.
"Ooops." McTavish immediately dropped to minimum maneuvering speed and turned the runabouts bow away from the Hartington. "It escaped my attention, but we are still approaching under powered to present a low profile. And I had our IFF turned off. So Hartington and several shuttles dont know who we are. Turn everything on."

McTavish and Kolar spent several tense seconds getting powered back up to full. McTavish debated powering up the shields being seen as an act of aggression and finally decided to error on the side of caution, and powered them to full. Weapons of course would remain off line.

"Hope communications are back online. Uss Hartington this is Uss Columbia. Request permission to approach."
